Sad he has gone. What was your favourite song of his? So many wonderful songs, but my favourite has to be "Any Day Now".

The Painted from Memory album he did with Elvis Costello is one of my all time favourites, what an amazing talent he was

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/02/2023 17:52

Every time I hear 24 Hours From Tulsa I think 'what a bastard'. Phoning his wife to say 'I won't be home ever again. I hooked up with this hot chick and I'm shacking up with her instead. Don't be cross. See ya'.

Great choon though!

AlinaSquareQueen · 09/02/2023 17:53

I love all the songs of Burt Bacharach, but Walk on By and Close to You are my favourites.

I cried a bit when I just read the news of his death.

PushthechocolateButton · 09/02/2023 17:54

This Guys in Love With You, the most romantic song ever IMO

MarkWithaC · 09/02/2023 18:29

I'm going to make a playlist from this thread!
I love so many of them but I Say a Little Prayer is the one that springs to mind when you say 'favourite'. Beautiful, delicate and yet compelling melody, simple, evocative words, doesn't outstay its welcome. It's practically perfect. No one can sing it as well as Aretha either.

Sloth66 · 09/02/2023 18:31

Make it Easy on Yourself. And any collaboration with Dionne Warwick.
What a talent.

justasoul · 09/02/2023 18:31

Oooh just went through my songs and remembered how much I love Living together, growing together ♥️

justasoul · 09/02/2023 18:33

There's also a lovely medley in one of the Carpenters albums (one with a pink/beige cover).

I have to say I cried too. A musical genius and I love all the songs already mentioned but I also love " Wives and Lovers" Dionne Warwick's phrasing on this is brilliant.

Jellykat · 09/02/2023 18:43

I have always adored his songs, all monumental classics.. but my 2 absolute favs

'Whats new Pussycat' - Tom Jones
and 'Alfie' - Cilla Black (which always makes me cry)

Coxspurplepippin · 09/02/2023 18:43

I say a little prayer. Wonderful combination of Bacharach, David and Aretha.

But so many others too, Close to You, Wishin' & Hopin', Always Something There to Remind Me, Heartlight.

The man was a genius.

Ohyoudodoyou · 09/02/2023 18:56

I saw him a couple of times including that Beth Rowley performance.
His songs absolutely filled my life from childhood to now, I always have a David/Bacharach playlist on.
My favourite is '24 hours from Tulsa' but I also love the soaring strings of 'don't make me over' - I saw Dionne Warwick a while back. When these people go we'll lose
So much elegance and style and class.

Chippy1234 · 09/02/2023 19:00

He was so stylish and cool. Those songs are still going and rightly so. Rest in Peace Burt.

WildRosie · 09/02/2023 19:02

Clawdy, we must be on the same wavelength. The moment I heard BB had died, I thought of 'Any Day Now'. I wasn't quite sure if it was one of his songs but evidently it is. I only know Paul Carrack's version.

happystory · 09/02/2023 19:05

My parents had a stormy marriage but I remember them being happy listening to Burt B :)

Spirini · 09/02/2023 19:14

Close To You, sung by the Carpenters, one of my favourite songs ever. I sang it to my DS from the day he was born ❤️

Qyk · 09/02/2023 19:36

Close to you (Carpenters)
Walk on By (prefer the Stranglers version with the instrumentals)
Raindrops Keep Falling on my Bicycle

EachandEveryone · 09/02/2023 19:49

I saw him at Glastonbury and he mustve been in his 80’s then. It was mindblowing so many hits one after the other just when you thought it was over he'd sing another medley. Just amazing.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/02/2023 19:52

For some reason I've never been crazy about Close To You. It's just a touch too schmaltzy for me.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/02/2023 21:48

Always something there to remind me -Sandie Shaw
I hadn’t realised he’d died 😢

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/02/2023 17:18

I love ‘Walk on by’ sung by Dionne Warwick.

Oh yes! Such a gorgeous voice.

LookItsMeAgain · 09/02/2023 21:55

I love Close to You sung by Karen Carpenter. She had such a stunning voice.

Habibtihayatiii · 10/02/2023 03:14

A huge loss to the music world. So many fantastic songs I can't pick one single favourite but like others, I live pretty much all the Dionne Warwick collaborations, 24 hours from Tulsa and what the world needs now. I will be enjoying a BB playlist all day at work today in memory.

Finallydo · 10/02/2023 03:30

So many, but Walk on By and A House is Not a Home are my fav. RIP BB
