Since we all enjoyed @OldTrot's historical letter deciphering, here's another for you - this one is a bit more recent but no less unfathomable. Off you go!

My darling Robin,

OldTrot · 09/02/2023 13:54

??? I can almost picture ?? at the ? path & ??? It's a nice idea and she will like the change.

From a ? reach have you ? this way yet? I thought I would do up a small blanket and ?? that much unless you have already got some that will do. ?? magnificent ?

That's page 1 as I see it briefly

Sunbird24 · 09/02/2023 13:56

I’ve got a chunk in the middle - a magnificent invitation came from U Charlie for the girls & me today - I expect you & Audrey have one too. What a lot of joy he must be getting out of all this! Poor WFC fell recently and broke his right arm - a clergyman friend wrote to me for him asking me to let anyone know who might be interested.

Rowthe · 09/02/2023 14:00

I know you--- this morning I can almost picture-

Sunbird24 · 09/02/2023 14:00

Then there’s a bit where she says she’s written to someone to let someone else know, will you tell Maureen? Can’t quite get the next part but it finishes with I’ll be thinking of you, must fly to catch the post.

Sunbird24 · 09/02/2023 14:01

I think the start is I (something) your letter this morning

Rowthe · 09/02/2023 14:01

you and ? Lallo at this path

what a lot of joy he must be getting out of all this. Poor WSC fell and broke his right xx. A clergyman friend wrote to me for him asking me to let anyone know who might be interested. I've written xx and asked him to let xx know, will you let Maureen know.

WSC is Churhcill going by those initials, who's the letter from and to?

PerrinAybara · 09/02/2023 14:02

I know you better this morning?

reddingweddy · 09/02/2023 14:03

I wondered if it was "Gus and Lallo" because of the way the writer forms the g at the start of other words...

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 09/02/2023 14:03

There was a broken arm and a clergyman friend in there. I need to look properly on the computer.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/02/2023 14:03

Oh initials WFC not WSC. I saw Churchill mentioned a bit later on and assumed it was him.

reddingweddy · 09/02/2023 14:05

I got excited about WSC but do wonder if the middle initial is an F like in Fairfield Lodge at the start... although it does go on to mention Churchill by name. He wasn't still PM then was he?

OP posts:
OldTrot · 09/02/2023 14:05

Yes I can't see where Churchill breaks an arm on a google - he did break other bones though but not until later

I think it's WFC too

ChickenSandwichandCupofTea · 09/02/2023 14:05

Towards the end - “I hope this ? (money?) is helpful ? ? ?” Is all I’ve got 😂

As a side note, I think we need a niche board specifically for deciphering these letters! Love these threads.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/02/2023 14:05

'I hope this meeting tomorrow will be helpful darling will be thinking of you' - near the end, and 'must fly for post.'

Sunbird24 · 09/02/2023 14:05

No, Eden was in I think.
Is it a pram mentioned halfway down page 1?

reddingweddy · 09/02/2023 14:07

I think it is a pram because I think the next sentence says "Have you got his bed yet?"

Wonder if this is from a doting granny?

OP posts:
Geneticsbunny · 09/02/2023 14:07

Have you got his bed yet? I thought I would do up a blanket and send him and Austin one each, unless you have already got some that will do.

OldTrot · 09/02/2023 14:08

Yes' it ends with 'must fly for post'

OldTrot · 09/02/2023 14:08

@reddingweddy is it anyone known to you at all? Or a random letter like mine are?

I may set up a dedicated thread in the History topic and then anyone can chip in and add things as they want

WarningToTheCurious · 09/02/2023 14:10
