What time does your 4 yo go to bed?

waitingwaitingwaiting2 · 05/02/2023 19:48

Mine goes upstairs at 6:30, puts on pyjamas, brushes teeth, has a story and a cuddle and then lights out by 7. He stays up chatting to himself but is asleep within 15-30 minutes and sleeps through until 7:30 or 8 the next morning. Doesn’t nap during the day.

MIL thinks this bedtime is terribly early for his age, but if we push it back I reckon he’d sleep later and miss nursery. And he’s generally knackered and seems quite ready for bed by 6:30. Just wondering what time other 4 yos are going to bed!

Bed 7.30. Usually asleep by 8ish. Up at 7am.

cazinge · 05/02/2023 19:50

Mine is 4.5 and has pretty much the same routine, although he usually wakes at 6.45-7 and has to be up by 7 for us to realistically get him and his sister out the door for school + nursery

binbum · 05/02/2023 19:55

Mine goes to sleep by 7:30/8.. then is up at 5am. Every. Damn. Day.

My little boy is much younger but I would ignore Mil. It sounds ideal to me.why bring bedtime later if he seems tired and sleeps well!

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 05/02/2023 19:58

Upstairs at six to do teeth/bath/pyjamas, then has 15 minutes to play in his room and then bed for 6.30-7 depending on how tired he is.

His grandparents love to tell me it's too early but honestly he needs it, the later he goes to the bed the earlier he seems to wake up and the harder the next day is for him and me. Also he's at school for 7.30 so I can't let him sleep later than 6.30 really. It works for us.

20viona · 05/02/2023 19:59

My 3.5 year old is asleep for 7.30-8 and wakes about 7.30-8 too.

Treeeeeeee · 05/02/2023 19:59

Bed around 8, normally asleep 8.30 ish. Wide awake at 6.30 (or 6) the next morning

rooella · 05/02/2023 20:00

Mines usually asleep for 7pm. They've always been ready for it. Wake up time can be anywhere between 6-7am with longer lie some days. She's always ready for bed by then. it works for us at the moment.

BiasedBinding · 05/02/2023 20:02

7.-30-8pm
needs to be up by 6.45 for school, usually wakes about 6.30

Newyearnewme1 · 05/02/2023 20:03

nearly 4 year old twins, they share a room, in bed by 6.50pm for story and then they’re pretty much immediately asleep. Normally awake at 6-6.30am

my mum likes to tell me it’s too early as well but honestly I just ignore her. She’s not here day in day out with them so her opinion means nothing

Zola1 · 05/02/2023 20:07

Bath about 730, asleep by 8. He's usually first up in the morning, organising some kind of chaos in his bedroom about 630am.

CoodleMoodle · 05/02/2023 20:08

DS is 4.5. Upstairs at about 7:15, teeth, into bed, two stories and then light off by 7:30. He's usually asleep straight away. He wakes up between 7 and 7:30 every day.

We had the same routine for DD at that age (except she had her stories downstairs). It seems to work for us.

Ragwort · 05/02/2023 20:11

Why do these grandmas even comment? What impact does it have on their lives? My DS went to bed at 7pm for years, ever since he was born (yes, I followed a strict GF routine Grin). When he started Beavers at age 6 he did go to bed later that night to allow for the later finishing time. I think he finally started later bedtimes around 8! But he slept well, woke naturally around 6.30/7am which suited our lifestyle.

Cuppasoupmonster · 05/02/2023 20:11

DD is 3.5 and her bedtime is 7.30. Sometimes she falls asleep in seconds, other times it’s half an hour. She generally sleeps through to between 6.30 and 7.30am. She still has the odd nap at the weekend, mainly in the car, but then it means she is up until 9ish!

binbum · 05/02/2023 20:12

@waitingwaitingwaiting2 Thank you, me too! 🤣 wakes up full of beans too, it always used to be she would wake at 7 but the last few months it's been 5, on the dot!

JennyDarlingRIP · 05/02/2023 20:18

Almost exactly the same as yours up to bed between 6 (if having a bath) or 6:30 pyjamas teeth story, lights out by seven usually also by 7:15/7:30. Gets up between 7 and 8 but usually 7:30-7:45. On rare occasion when we've had a busy week I have to wake him at 8 to have breakfast and get ready for nursery. He went up a bit late today (7:30) because my parents were here, and by 6:45 he started to look tired and then get hyper because he's fighting tiredness.

Elemenohpe · 05/02/2023 20:19

We go up about 7:30, asleep for 8 ish, awake 7-7:30.

hiyaKen · 05/02/2023 20:30

7pm/7:30pm

Awake by 6:30am

Leggingslife · 05/02/2023 20:35

630, asleep by 7pm.
Up around 615/630am

MummyJ36 · 05/02/2023 20:35

If no bath night: upstairs at 6.45pm, change, bathroom stuff, story but will often stay up playing and chatting to herself until 7.45pm!

If it’s a bath night we go up between 6.15-6.30pm.

But kids sleep is so individual. My DD never crashes out before 7.30pm and has been known to go until 8.30pm.

Smarshian · 05/02/2023 20:35

He goes up about 7.15, book and lights out for 7.30-7.45. He usually chats to himself until 8ish. Awake for 6.30ish

PinkSyCo · 05/02/2023 20:36

Your bedtime routine obviously works very well for your DS so I would ignore your MIL, or anyone else for that matter, and carry on as you are.

TooMinty · 05/02/2023 20:38

Sounds like you are doing perfectly to me. Ignore your MIL, she has probably just forgotten how early little kids need to sleep. Or she had a schedule that allowed for late nights and late mornings but your wee one is in a good routine for school hours so I'd keep it that way!

Libmama · 05/02/2023 20:38

Goes up at 6.50 for wee/teeth/story and is usually asleep 2 minutes after I’ve left his room. Always asleep by 7.15. He’s usually up about 6am.
He does once/twice a week wake in the night
too and Daddy goes and gets into bed with him.
