What time does your 4 yo go to bed?

Mine goes upstairs at 6:30, puts on pyjamas, brushes teeth, has a story and a cuddle and then lights out by 7. He stays up chatting to himself but is asleep within 15-30 minutes and sleeps through until 7:30 or 8 the next morning. Doesn’t nap during the day.

MIL thinks this bedtime is terribly early for his age, but if we push it back I reckon he’d sleep later and miss nursery. And he’s generally knackered and seems quite ready for bed by 6:30. Just wondering what time other 4 yos are going to bed!

Mine goes to sleep by 7:30/8.. then is up at 5am. Every. Damn. Day.

Have you tried bringing bedtime earlier? Worked a treat for us over tiredness was causing early wakings. Our routine is sane ish op for newly 5 year old. Wakes 6:46/7

DD is in bed by half 6/7pm, lights out by half 7 at the latest. She sleeps until half 7 (on a school day, up with the bloody lark on a weekend!).

DS is 4.5 and in bed by 7pm, asleep by 7.30pm. Wakes at 7am. He is happier when he gets a full 12 hours. I really think most children need an early bedtime and I am not sure why some people are so bothered by it!

BiasedBinding · 05/02/2023 21:06

I’m not bothered by other children having an earlier or later bedtime, I literally only care about what mine need. I don’t care if other people’s children need earlier or later than mine and don’t assume I know better than their own parents.

DD was 4 just before Christmas. Asleep around 7-7.30pm. She's usually up about 6.30am. She's occasionally up earlier and will sometimes sleep til 7-7.15am.

EcoCustard · 05/02/2023 21:36

Dc4 is nearly 4 and is in bed for 7-7.15pm wakes up 6.30-7.30am. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. Any later he won’t get up and is grumpy. He stays up a little later on Saturday.

reluctantbrit · 05/02/2023 21:37

Light out was 8pm as we had dinner together at 6.30pm after coming back from work and school.

Up at 6.30am without waking her.

my son has a meditation app. So we head upstairs at 6, bath, teeth etc and into bed for 6.30ish. We have a cyst and put meditation on and he’s usually asleep before 7. Wake up is his and miss. Usually between 6-7am but I prefer my extra time in the evening rather than the morning and I like him to wake naturally so I know he’s had enough sleep

As a mil I have our 6 year old one night a week. He goes to bed by 7.15 on a school night. My kids went early so they have gone to drop off by themselves.

Your mil is daft

My 3-year old twins generally go to bed at 8pm/8:15pm, and sleep till 8am.

At the weekend, the routine is more flexible, so tonight they went to bed at 9:30pm. They'll sleep till about 8:30am tomorrow (their nanny comes to the house, so they do not have to be up early for creche/preschool).

wineofduty · 05/02/2023 23:22

DS is normally asleep for 8. Awake around 7:30/7:45am. Although this weekend he stayed up a little later on sat night - 8:30ish and slept in until gone 9am today, was a rare treat to lie in Smile

binbum · 06/02/2023 05:31

@tirednewmumm we have tried, she's up at exactly the same time. Hope it's not forever.

Sunset6 · 06/02/2023 05:37

7.30pm if everything goes to plan (often turns out to be 8pm or later if she doesn’t cooperate) then up at 7am

Jiminycrickets · 06/02/2023 05:40

6:30-6:00. It’s always 6, no matter bedtime, so figure it’s best to get more sleep!

pigpinkstockings · 06/02/2023 05:51

7pm-7am, sometimes sings or chatters until 8pm. Definitely needs 11-12hours sleep. Sometimes lays in until 8ish on a weekend.

StClare101 · 06/02/2023 06:20

7pm lights out. Generally sleeps for 12 hours.

StClare101 · 06/02/2023 06:20

And I should add - still naps. Just loves sleep.

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 06/02/2023 06:23

My DD has always been an owl like me. As a baby slept midnight till noon.

She started full time school nursery just before she turned 4. The night before her first day she was in bed at 10pm. Over the first week it came down to 9pm. She didn’t need to be up
till 8:15am to get ready for school so that was fine.
