What was this man up to?

Keep coming back to something strange that I saw on Thursday evening and wanted some opinions on what was going on.

Was at my local gastropub for an early dinner, probably about 7pm I went to the loo. There's a big wooden door from the dining area of the pub which leads to a staircase. A set of stairs leads up to the mens loos and there are three or four stairs leading down to the women's. There's nothing else there it's just the loos.

When I came out of the women's loo there was a tall youngish man waiting by the door which leads back into the pub. I walked up the three or four stairs towards him. He then stepped around me and walked down the stairs to the women's loo and went as if to open the door. I turned back and said "that's the women's loo".

He looked up and said "oh I'm a bit lost'.

I went back into the pub and he came out after.

I can't help feeling that he was up to something?

Sounds like he was trying to find the loos.

stbrandonsboat · 05/02/2023 10:27

He possibly was, but now that men have been given free access to women's toilets, all sorts of perverts are going to be hanging around them. Another thing we have to worry about and be on our guard for 🙄

Did you mention it to staff at the time?

DDivaStar · 05/02/2023 10:30

Well I guess he didn't know where the loos were. When he saw you come up he guessed (wrongly) all the loos were downstairs.

Yes he could have been going to the ladies loos for dubious reasons but its by no means a given.

Tbh if a man wants to hang around womens loos he will, I doubt legislation will make much difference.

Jagley · 05/02/2023 10:32

Lost/drunk/waiting for partner. If it made you feel uncomfortable did you say something to staff?

PuppyMonkey · 05/02/2023 10:33

I mean I’ll be honest, it doesn’t sound like the most sinister encounter I’ve ever heard about.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/02/2023 10:36

Was there anyone else in the toilets? I say this as on a shopping trip we went for a couple of drinks and there was a couple who were quite obviously going to go to the loos together until they saw other people in there and then he loitered outside.
so he could have been waiting for no one to be there and then meet his girlfriend in the loos.

OhamIreally · 05/02/2023 10:37

Actually @DDivaStar you are almost certainly correct.

I didn't say anything to staff. Just afterwards I pondered on whether it was a bit off.

Thanks for helping to clarify.

To be honest I have the worst sense of direction and and simple trip to the loo somewhere new frequently means I end up walking down the wrong set of stairs or corridor. I wouldn’t read too much into it myself.

bigbluebus · 05/02/2023 11:13

Having been out to a few bars and pubs yesterday, I have to say that I found the variation in labelling of toilets most confusing.
Some had 'trendy' wording ie 'sisters and misters' and 'pissoirs'. Others had symbols which made it hard to work out who they were supposed to be for. So he could have been genuinely lost.
But if you were genuinely concerned about his behaviour you should have alerted a staff member.

SoyMarina · 05/02/2023 11:17

Wow…as a parent of young men I feel sorry for them with people like the OP becoming suspicious of them because they are simply looking for the loo.

redbigbananafeet · 05/02/2023 11:24

I'm trying to figure out what you thought he might be up to? If he was going to go in and attack a woman in the toilets he'd wait until you had gone surely?

Blanketpolicy · 05/02/2023 11:28

Definitely a predator of some sort......or just maybe just lost 🙄

Ffs how are we supposed to know?

SoyMarina · 05/02/2023 11:35

I would be more worried about my sons coming in contact with someone as obviously unhinged as the OP 🤣!
It’s not too late to report this young man to the police OP.
Im sure they’ll hunt him down and arrest him for ‘being a young man looking for the loos in a pub’ and lock him up and throw away the key.

All sorts of perverts?

SoyMarina · 05/02/2023 11:49

make sure you only go out with a body guard as there are young men everywhere therefore you are in extreme danger at all times!

flabbygoldfish · 05/02/2023 11:53

Pissed and lost. To be fair I sometimes struggle to navigate back corridors in search of them but when I screw up people think it is funny and harmless, when a man does it he is instantly under suspicion. Shame, but that is the world we live in now...

Don't be silly. My point is that it's yet another thing for women to be concerned about when navigating the women's toilets. Aren't you keeping up with current events?

Shitfather · 05/02/2023 11:56

Non-issue unless proven otherwise.

TrianglePlayer · 05/02/2023 11:57

I would say he was either waiting for you to come out before joining his girlfriend in the ladies for a quick shag OR just looking for the gents and not quite knowing where he was going.

stbrandonsboat · 05/02/2023 11:57

pinkyredrose · 05/02/2023 11:43

Yes. AGPs. I don't think we're permitted to fully name it on here.

SoyMarina · 05/02/2023 11:59

Don’t be silly yourself stbrandsonboat.
Are you saying you suspect this young man is a pervert because you keep up with current affairs?
🤣

Babdoc · 05/02/2023 11:59

I can see why you were suspicious OP. If he genuinely needed the toilet, he would have thanked you and headed UP the stairs to the Gents. But no, he just followed you back to the bar. So he obviously was neither waiting for a partner nor needing a pee himself.
My money is on a sexual predator lurking and trying to pluck up the nerve for his first invasion of a women’s single sex space. Why else would he have been there?
