Help me help my dd please! She doesn't know what to get her bf for Valentines Day. They are both nearly 16. What's the normal thing?

Get her to google ‘valentines gifts for boyfriend’. There are loads of ideas. Etsy, Amazon and Lego.

VyeBrator · 05/02/2023 00:11

Oh good Lord, I'm sure she can ask friends her own age if she can't work it out for herself.

Has she really asked you to ask Mumsnet?

TangledWebOfDeception · 05/02/2023 00:12

It would depend on the boy, surely.

Don't think a 16 year old should be spending much on a bf for valentines anyway tbh.

No of course she hasn't freaking asked me to ask MN. I doubt she even knows what MN is. She asked me in passing and so I clearly, idiotically thought it would be a nice non stressful question for MN. But thanks for putting me straight. Great to have people like you to ensure only TOPICS OF GREAT SIGNIFICANCE are discussed 🙄

Can’t she ask her friends? I don’t think MN is the place to ask what 16 year old boys like for valentines day since most of us will be much older 🤦🏻🤣

It's almost like no one on MN has teens in the house

Blimey, sorry op - I think you’re being treated really unfairly here…. I clicked onto the thread thinking yay, I can give dd some sensible ideas (hers are usually grand & expensive which are therefore inappropriate). I’m not brill at this stuff either and I’m not sure any of her friends would give helpful suggestions sadly (yes, she needs new friends but I can’t control that!) so, if anyone has a useful, fun, inexpensive & age appropriate ideas I’d love to know too😁

Offleyhoo · 05/02/2023 00:49

Depends on the boy but a card with some heart shaped chocolates inside would probably to the trick.

Offleyhoo · 05/02/2023 00:49

*do

journeyofinsanity · 05/02/2023 00:51

Ah I'm not someone who gets perturbed by weird responses 🤣. Thread police. The need to monitor what threads are acceptable and wear are a waste of MN space!!

Perhaps some people don't have nice chatty relationships with their dc! Anyway, ideas to throw at her would be very welcome

Car and trip to see a film?

Tamarindtree · 05/02/2023 01:03

Not a car! I’m sure he would love that!

A card and a trip to the cinema?

MinnieMountain · 05/02/2023 05:34

Chocolates.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/02/2023 07:12

The biggest Toblerone she can find .

TangledWebOfDeception · 05/02/2023 08:37

I think the responses are partly due to the weirdos we get here and there who love discussing anything to do with teen girls. It makes me a tad suspicious of questions that might somehow be leading towards some kind of ‘teen girl relationship talk’

I honestly can’t help you on the gifts because a) I have grown up daughters so I haven’t got the faintest idea what teenage boys might be into right now, and b) DH and I have never really done presents for Valentine’s.

What does he like, what’s he into?

She shouldn’t spend too much, though. A card, some chocolates, a small gift.

TangledWebOfDeception · 05/02/2023 08:38

A huge toblerone sounds good! Or one of those long, long tubes of Jaffa cakes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2023 08:41

Massive overthinking going on here.

Nothing.

Or a card and a box of Maltesers or something. Anything else is bonkers.

RTHJ14 · 05/02/2023 08:48

My ds and his friend have been each other’s valentine since they were quite young. They’ve got each other chocolates, balloon, one year she got him an engraved key ring. I think this year he’s got her a book she’ll like xx

Sweetener12 · 06/02/2023 08:23

Maybe a somewhat romantic collage of their photos in a frame? Idk if the teens would find it cheesy or not, though! Anyway, a toblerone is what's always good and maybe a handmade card.

ComfortablyDazed · 06/02/2023 08:25

I’m not sure what you’re really hoping for here beyond flowers or chocolates…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

LeilaGetTheHose · 06/02/2023 08:26

As her mother you probably wouldn't like my answer 🤣

OMG no stop 🤣. I suggested some novelty choc( big heart etc). I guess that's the standard. I just wondered if there was more of a thing these days. He spends big on every event so she gets a bit stressed. If he buys her something super nice and she just got him chocolate

@Tamarindtree as a mum of teen boys I was excited to see I won’t need to buy them a car as their girlfriends will do that for them 😂

Eyerollcentral · 07/02/2023 02:09

How much money do these teens have?? I do think it’s a bit weird you have given this any thought I have to say. Is he in to music? A vinyl album? Not sure teen boy would appreciate a big choc heart tbh

Not particularly weird. I'm sitting in a hospital every day for 6 hours with my dying parent. Guess what? It's dull. Starting a random thread about something but very unimportant is a nice distraction. Well it was until I realised what shitty people there are out there 🙄
