Love her cottage so much.
Its warmth and personality, its lived-in cosiness, its original features.

Can well imagine the scope for happily chaotic gatherings of loved ones, kids, dogs there.

I'd spend my winter evenings curled up in front of that fireplace, good book and mulled wine to hand. And lazy summer afternoons adrift in a garden hammock.

Ah, I can but dream!

It's lovely but that thatch will need replacing every 10 years or so and those beams would be a bugger to keep clean. I like the look of it but not the endless maintenance.

Baconand · 04/02/2023 13:05

Mine isn’t quite so grand but I live in a lovely thatched cottage. I recommend it!
Mind you it does need redecoration throughout but I’m getting there slowly. Probably won’t be interiors worthy though!

You do not need to re-thatch every 10
years. Just the ridge. You get a good 20-25 years out of a roof.

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/02/2023 13:43

Baconand stop it! I'm trying to make myself feel better for only having boring old roof tiles!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/02/2023 13:45

Love the kitchen floor tiles

Coxspurplepippin · 04/02/2023 13:49

I obviously have no taste - I think the interiors are hideous.

Cuppasoupmonster · 04/02/2023 13:51

It’s gorgeous! I wouldn’t choose a thatch though.

megletthesecond · 04/02/2023 13:51

Thatch lasts longer than 10 years. I thought it was 25?

Baconand · 04/02/2023 13:59

This is ours when we moved in. It’s had new windows and doors since (wood) and we’ve redone the kitchen and put in a garden office. Just the rest to do now.
Will take a lifetime but it is heaven (if you like the quiet life).

I don’t like the interiors at all - to me it looks like a ‘before’ pic
the house itself is stunning though I totally agree - the dream!

Depends what it’s made of, that roof has clearly been done recently. But it can be up to 40 years.

safeplanet · 04/02/2023 14:04

I love her house & kitchen

Scalottia · 04/02/2023 14:09

@ArseMenagerie I agree, the cottage itself is gorgeous but the interior is not attractive (to me). I don't like the wallpaper in the bathroom though, just a personal thing.

I do love the idea of a cottage in the middle of nowhere!

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/02/2023 14:12

I grew up in a house a bit like that, they are v dark, and the low ceilings and little doors and staircases can be quite oppressive. I’d go Georgian every time.

robinax · 04/02/2023 14:13

It's lovely and cosy.

Mercurial123 · 04/02/2023 14:16

It's beautiful inside and out. The house suits her style. Nice to see interiors designed to be lived in rather than a boring show home.

Partyandbullshit · 04/02/2023 14:18

Stopped scrolling when I saw the separate hot and cold taps on the bathroom sink. Nopety nope for me!

BHRK · 04/02/2023 14:18

I think the interiors are awful

Oneborneverydecade · 04/02/2023 14:20

I wouldn't mind Lily Allen's brownstone as a NY bolt hole to go with my rural English cottage. Have you watched the AD video OP?

ShittyPeasantsFromHampshire · 04/02/2023 14:21

Sienna's house I like but don't love. I do love doing house tours on the Architectural Digest YouTube channel though. (not keen on Lily's Allen and David Harbour's Brooklyn gaff. David Harbour's previous apartment was much, much nicer)

House and Garden, French Vogue, Sunday Times Style, and Homeworthy also have great house porn YouTube channels.

IaltagDhubh · 04/02/2023 14:27

Haunted. And the ghost is really cross about the bathroom wallpaper.

@Baconand yours is gorgeous. Looks much more welcoming.

Keepyourmummysboys · 04/02/2023 14:43

I think it’s lovely. It’s a weekend home, not her main residence, she bought it she says when she was 25. I think it’s wonderful, very Informal and relaxing, nothing stand on ceremony about it. For me, yes, it’s wonderful.

Keepyourmummysboys · 04/02/2023 14:45

Also I think the video tour shows it much better. As said, for a weekend/holiday home, lucky lady, it’s just perfect and impressed at 25 she had the foresight to buy it.

bellylaughter · 04/02/2023 14:47

@Baconand your house is absolutely beautiful.

I’m with you in the no taste club, @Coxspurplepippin .
