OMG Crazy Costa caffeine

I knew it! On the rare time I’d drink a coffee at Costa I’d come out feeling like I’d just done a line if coke (well, never done it but must be similar). Have always avoided it since except for the odd hot chocolate.

tbh I was more shocked at the very low levels in starbucks coffee.

Yeah, my take home from ths was also the opposite - confirmation that Starbucks is weak crayon-water.

OMG, I rarely go to a coffee shop but met a friend in Costa the other week. 2 medium cappuccinos latter I was buzzing and had to lie down! I usually drink tea or decaff coffee.

Now I know why I felt so out of sorts!

Starbucks barely tastes like coffee to me. Costa and Nero are miles better than Starbucks.

Caffeine is a really strong drug (speaking as someone who’s no stranger to a recreational bump or dab)…I gave it up years ago, it really messed with me. I honestly have fewer side effects from cocaine.

I will tell DH as he is quite sensitive to caffeine, he only drinks caffeinated drinks in the mornings or it keeps him awake at night so he is probably best avoiding Costa coffee.

I don't drink coffee but even Starbucks hot chocolate is like dish water compared to costa hot chocolate

I’m pleased to have read this as I’m currently pregnant. I’ve gone right off of hot drinks and aren’t sensitive to caffeine at all so on a rare occasion I’ve had one when I’ve been out and not thought much of it since I’m not having caffeine any other time. It definitely has made me think about what I’d have as the guides on the NHS website say that one cup would be under the recommended 200mg. That’s obviously not the case with Costa though.

It is too bitter. If I ever go into a Starbucks I always request blonde roast instead of their standard espresso house blend.

But they have less caffeine than a number of independent coffee shops so not necessarily all that.

I always avoid Costa because they over-brew their coffee and it tastes burnt, every single time.

Also much prefer Costa to Starbucks. Starbucks tastes greasy somehow to me. Never had a Costa that made me feel uncomfortably buzzy.
