If you're 5'5" and weigh 9.5 stone

What are your waist and chest measurements please?

I'm going to be a bridesmaid this summer. I'm on a diet and have just under a stone to lose in 5 months. I'm going to get the dress made to fit my likely measurements at the time of the wedding.

I know this isn't an exact science and everyone will be a bit different at this height / weight so I'm hoping that a few different answers together with my current measurements will help me to provide a fairly good guesstimate of how many inches I might lose before then.

Thank you!

@Sewannoying thought I was the only one that shape. 🍐

WinterFoxes · 01/02/2023 09:55

What body shape are you? That's the best guide.

When I was that weight I was very pear shaped, so 32B, 25/26 inch waist but 39/40 inch hips and legs like a rugby player. If you have skinny legs and a barrel shaped body my measurements wouldn't fit you at all.

I'm fatter now but my body has become hourglass, so more proportioned.

Perhaps you could have your measurements taken with control underwear, so that you know in the worst case if your shape hasn’t changed you still have a means of getting in the dress?

Not sure about ins but I'm still a size 12 at that height/weight (big hips and chest)...

I'd strongly suggest getting it made on current measurements, then having it taken in if necessary.

Absolutely do this!

Oooh lucky you, @Sewannoying . You have a great waist-hip ratio!

Thank-you. I’ve been doing exercises targeting my waist, since everyone on mn seems to have tiny waists, and it went down an inch.

It not everyone on MN. People with big waists just don’t want to draw attention to themselves, so don’t post.

Can’t you wait and get the dress made nearer the time?

No. It's an overseas wedding (bride emigrated) and the dresses are being made there.

Genius! Thank you 😊

I'm 5'4". When I weigh 9.5 stone my waist would still be about 27.5-28" as i'm fairly straight up and down.

Get it made to your current measurements.

Honestly, it's going to be such a stress to have this hanging over you if you don't succeed in losing the weight. You will have to buy a completely new dress at the last minute.

If you're trying to use this to motivate yourself, don't. So many people do this and regret it.

A stone is not huge and it will be easy to get it taken in by that much.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 01/02/2023 10:35

Are you an ‘apple’ or a ‘pear’? I am the same height and perhaps 2 pounds lighter at 9 stone 3 pounds but am pear shape, so size 8 on top and size 12 on the bottom. I would need to lose a stone (which is on the edge of underweight) to be a size 8 on the bottom.

I wear ‘a’ line dresses in a size 8-10 to get past my hips or separate sizes tops and bottoms. A lot will depend on your natural body shape and the style of the dress.
