If you're 5'5" and weigh 9.5 stone

What are your waist and chest measurements please?

I'm going to be a bridesmaid this summer. I'm on a diet and have just under a stone to lose in 5 months. I'm going to get the dress made to fit my likely measurements at the time of the wedding.

I know this isn't an exact science and everyone will be a bit different at this height / weight so I'm hoping that a few different answers together with my current measurements will help me to provide a fairly good guesstimate of how many inches I might lose before then.

Thank you!

That sounds a perfectly healthy weight to me, I don't think you need to lose anywhere near a stone.

Bemyclementine · 01/02/2023 08:55

I'd strongly suggest getting it made on current measurements, then having it taken in if necessary.

Flowermarket · 01/02/2023 08:56

It's impossible to say - people carry weight in completely different areas. Me and my friend are both about this, I am a 32DD and she is a 34B so I don't think a load of random measurements are going to be useful to you.

Just give your measurements as they are today and you can get the dress adjusted if you lose any weight.

9.5 stone is my target weight. I'm currently about 10 stone 5lbs, which although is within the normal BMI range, it is a bit more than I'd like (too much spare tyre round the middle). I have dodgy knees too and GP has suggested losing some weight would be beneficial.

I’m a comfortable size 10 at that height and weight if that helps, whereas a 12 at your current weight.

You can't have a dress made on other peoples measurements!!

Exactly this!! Enormous difference in waste/leg ratio, hip width boob size etc. As per pp you're better off measuring now and taking it in.

garlicandsapphires · 01/02/2023 09:06

And imagine how stressful it would be if you hadn't managed to lose a stone. In my experience trying to get below a certain weight can be v v difficult.

It’s far easier to have a dress taken in than it is to let it out. Where do you normally lose weight from? If you carry round your middle it’s likely that will be last to go.

forgettingtoremember · 01/02/2023 09:11

It's a risky strategy OP. I hope you lose the weight that you want to but best to get a dress that fits you now and then get it taken in.

Tweetypie27 · 01/02/2023 09:13

I’m 5.2 and 9.3 I’ve got a small top half and big bottom half so this is hard to say as when I lose weight it goes from my boobs first and my ass last 😂

Mochudubh · 01/02/2023 09:17

Ah, OK, I misunderstood and thought that was your current weight.

I agree with pps. Everyone carries fat differently and loses it in different places to others. Get the dress made to your current measurements and have it taken in if necessary.

Curlygirl06 · 01/02/2023 09:23

I'm about that weight now, possibly a bit lighter. No boobs, small bum but I carry weight on my tummy and tops of my legs. I'm usually a size 10, depending on the make. Hope that helps.

EyesOnThePies · 01/02/2023 09:24

Take it from your current measurement but a dress size down.

Absolutely this. It's the sensible option that will ensure the dress fits

JustFrustrated · 01/02/2023 09:31

I agree with everyone else saying other people's measurements won't work.

I'm 5ft6 and 9.5 stone.

32F
28inch hips
24 inch waist.

How is that useful to you? I have a short body, surgically changed. I also have a pot belly and stupidly long legs... So....

Fink · 01/02/2023 09:34

My Mum and I are the same height and usually around the same weight. One of us is usually a bra size 32B and the other is a 30F. We're completely different body shapes on exactly the same BMI, weight and height (actually fairly near what you're aiming for, but that's beside the point). You really can't judge your own future size just from other people's height and weight!

tulips27 · 01/02/2023 09:37

I think age can be a factor; I am thicker round the middle now I'm older even at the same weight. If you're younger that shouldn't be the case (unless you were already that way even when young).

rookiemere · 01/02/2023 09:43

I would base it on a reduction of your current measurements.
I was lucky enough to take part in some modelling for online clothing this weekend with "real" sized women.
Three of us would have said we were a size 14, but the trousers were too long for me - although we were the same height- and some of the tops too baggy as I have a smaller chest than some of the other ladies.

Exactly. I weigh 9 pound less than this poster, but my measurements are

34A
37 inch hips
28 inch waist

It really doesn’t correlate.

tulips27 · 01/02/2023 09:45

Oooh lucky you, @Sewannoying . You have a great waist-hip ratio!

Also, we lose weight in different places.

And at different rates. I'll lose it off my tummy first, and quickly, 2.5cm in a week. But that's the max I can lose from there.

It's very much "how long is a piece of string"

Oakbeam · 01/02/2023 09:51

Can’t you wait and get the dress made nearer the time?

lobeliasb · 01/02/2023 09:53

36 inches around the chest, 26 inches waist, but large hips at 40". So the hip measurement really matters if you're pear shaped. I have to go up a size a lot of the time because of my hips
