Anyone with Octopus (no smart meter)?

If you're with Octopus, can you please let me know what daily and unit rates you pay for gas and electric (and if they include VAT).

We're with Bulb at the moment, waiting to transfer over to Octopus. I've just done a price comparison with Octopus and they're quoting £2846pa, whereas currently we're estimated to pay £1471pa. There's a massive difference and figures are based on same usage, so now a little concerned how much it's going to cost us in the future. The quote from Octopus isn't detailed and just gives you the option of opening an account.

We chose our tariff in 2021, but I'm pretty sure it's not fixed.
Electricity - 42p/day standing charge, 44p/kWh
Gas- 25.5p/day standing charge, 13.9p/kWh
Not including VAT

It varies depending on what area you're in and how you pay anyway. But for what it's worth:

Electricity 35.98p kWh. 46.95p Standing charge

Gas

10.34p kWh. 26.84p Standing charge

Rates include VAT and have the Government Price Guarantee applied.

And Octopus are great by the way. You can change your direct debit dates and amounts in the app and request a credit refund through the app or by email. Never a problem. And they issue a bill as soon as you enter meter readings, 5 or 6 times a month if you want to keep on top of things

Why are you paying more than the capped rates?!

I'm another bulb customer who'll be transferred over. Can you please tell me if the app shows daily usage in ££ rather than kw. I absolutely love the bulb app and am worried the octopus one won't be as good.

I've not got a smart meter so I couldn't tell you that.

dementedpixie · 25/01/2023 21:51

I'm in Scotland on the standard variable rate and pay:

Electricity: 33.76p/kwh and 49.02p/day
Gas: 10.28p/kwh and 26.84p/day

WinterMermaid987 · 25/01/2023 21:54

Yes I can see kWh and £s per day on the octopus app, I was moved after Avro went bust. I think the App is good and if I enter a meter reading they issue a bill.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 25/01/2023 21:57

I was transferred to octopus after our supplier went tits up but we moved to UW in August the Gold tariff

Inkpotlover · 25/01/2023 22:02

We fixed in 2021 for 2 yrs before prices were going up, so we pay:

Elec
Unit Rate 24.75p/kWh
Standing Charge 22.87p/day

Gas
Unit Rate 6.20p/kWh
Standing Charge 24.86p/day

Not looking forward to our deal expiring in Nov.

CatOnTheChair · 25/01/2023 22:07

The amounts vary slightly round the country, but you will be paying very similar amounts to those quoted by pigsinoodies, likewise, snazxysaudmdagges amongst others. These are the energy price cap, nowhere will be significantly cheaper.

Yes, I can get the usage in £ and kWh on the octopus web account. No smart meter.

Mihamiha · 25/01/2023 22:08

We're with octopus and they sent me this yesterday. I'm hoping you can zoom in 🧐😄

Oh sorry it's quite blurry, it looked ok on the preview 🤷🏻‍♀️

LizzieSiddal · 25/01/2023 22:10

Electricity is 34.23 and standing charge is 42.77. I only got this offer last week as my fixed rate finishes at the end of January.

I have found Octopus to have fabulous customer service and have been with them for 4 years.

We’re rural so not on mains gas.

Celinia · 25/01/2023 22:17

Flexible avro

electric 32.81p per kWh; gas 10.28p per kwh

If anyone wants to switch to Octopus use our friend code and we both get £50 referral bonus : share.octopus.energy/dusky-briar-638

tornadoinsideoutfig · 25/01/2023 22:20

You should expect to pay the variable rate under the government price guarantee, about 34p electric and 10.3p gas plus standing charges. At average usage of 2900kwh electric and 12000kwh gas that should be £2500 a year, £3000 from April. If you use less you will pay less, use more, pay more.

It would be very boring for everyone if we all did that at every opportunity.

Your rate seems much better than mine. Are you on a special tariff?
