Blocking porn adverts on YouTube

Is there any way to do this? For me and the kids! Just got a really nasty strangulation video advert that none of us want to see. 😔

Kids YouTube app?

MummyDummyNow · 23/01/2023 18:27

Yep Kids YouTube!

Buttalapasta · 23/01/2023 18:31

Ok thanks. I don't see why they are allowed to just post these adverts anyway. It was really disturbing. I have reported it.

Kids YouTube would obviously work but it doesn’t show loads of things that my kids are interested in, like music videos and football stuff. I’m interested in a way to block porn type things without just using kids YouTube if anyone knows how?

Badfootkk · 23/01/2023 18:37

Someone turned off safe search on Google?

katseyes7 · 23/01/2023 18:40

Wow! Really?! I watch a lot of music videos on youtube, and not once have l ever had anything like this pop up. Loads of rubbish ads l'm not interested in, but never porn! And l'm 60+ and live alone, so don't have any kind of child filters on.
I'm really shocked at that! That's awful!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 23/01/2023 18:45

Goodness. All I ever get on YouTube are Morrisons bakery and Idris Elba trying to encourage me to get travel insurance.

Precipice · 23/01/2023 18:45

My advice would be an Adblock in general. I use uBlock Origin and never see a single youtube ad.

However, the issue here goes far beyond the omnipresent advertising and into the actual nature of the advert, which shouldn't be being shown to anyone. Sexualised violence against women.

Flameshame · 23/01/2023 18:47

You don’t have safe search on which is the default setting. Porn is never served as an ad it’s illegal

Same.
I am worried now as my dds look at YouTube. Is this a common thing ?

verdantverdure · 23/01/2023 18:48

Ads are targeted aren't they? If we ever got a porn ad I'd want to know what people in my house had been looking at.

junglistmassive · 23/01/2023 18:51

has someone else been connected to your wifi? I've had some gross adverts pop up when a family member visits.

CavalierApproach · 23/01/2023 18:53

Wow, we use YouTube a lot and I've never seen this happen. How awful!

CavalierApproach · 23/01/2023 18:57

Sorry, off topic but @BigMandsTattooPortfolio, your nn made me Grin

bootyCarl · 23/01/2023 18:58

How are you getting porn ads in YouTube? What company is advertising strangulation?

Wasteofmoneyornot · 23/01/2023 19:01

Never ever had anything like this from you tube

I'd be wondering who's been looking at what as I seem to get a lot of funny cats and horses with their head stick in a bucket ...

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 23/01/2023 19:15

Maybe don't search for porn anywhere.

I've never once had an advert like that pop up. Ever Confused

Thank you, @CavalierApproach, good that there are other This Country folk on here. 😄

M340 · 23/01/2023 22:33

YouTube doesn't advertise porn. If there are porn pop ups you've probably got a virus and / or someone's been watching porn.

I never had it before this time! I'm not in the UK so maybe it's different? It wasn't a pop-up it wasal a youtube "short" with a link to see more. 😖Can ad-blockers block those?

Buttalapasta · 24/01/2023 06:26

I also don't search for or watch porn!

OP posts:
TaRaDeBumDeAy · 25/01/2023 07:26

Someone does.

I'm not in the UK either. Youtube shorts are also based on your searches/what you watch.

FuckabethFuckor · 25/01/2023 07:41

YouTube Shorts are served up based on the account watch history. Sometimes they make slightly weird algorithmic leaps based on AI guesswork but it generally means you, someone on your device/account or someone on your network has been watching something related.

This. Who in your house has been watching porn? :)

userlotsanumbers · 25/01/2023 07:51

Someone is watching porn in your house, they target ads on YouTube.
