Have you ever had multiple contact with the same dead person?

I'm not woo but talking to my sister this weekend made me think.

We grew up in a Victorian house and would see a lady walking around in a long black dress when we were very little. I don't remember her but my sister does and says she used to smile at her around the bedroom door.

A family friend came for dinner once when we were older and at the dining table was pale faced and said he had seen a lady in a long dress walking down the hallway.

I am a bit sceptical of ghosts but it seemed odd that more than one person had seen her. Anyone else seen an apparition more than once?

My mum used to see a man in victorian clothes at the top of our (then) stairs. One day she got a black cab home, as it pulled up the driver said his GF relative used to live there and described the exact same ghost in the same position.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 22/01/2023 19:03

It’s funny how these ghosts are always dressed in Victorian clothes! And always called some very common generic names like John or Victoria/Elizabeth. It’s never Paul who died five years ago in a house fire and has come back to visit… 🤣

tinselandjoy · 22/01/2023 20:03

@Banoffeetonoffee ooh I love that!

@JudgeRinderonTinder ha that's true! Never any goth ghosts or ghosts with beehives! Though I guess people see WWI nurses and soldiers?!

Again though, WW1. A significant historical event. I think the power of suggestion has a part to play. As well as attentional focus etc. Very rare you hear someone say, ‘’oh I seen old Tommy the neighbour across the road’s ghost last night!’’ It’s always a nun or a Priest or a lady dressed in Victorian clothes, soldiers and characters of some religious or historical significance.

the Afterlife has religious underpinnings anyway, to make the reality of death easier to deal with.

Howmanysleepsnow · 22/01/2023 20:26

I’ve seen a ghost in a puffer jacket, one in a mac and one in a dressing gown. A colleague also saw the dressing gown one.

Howmanysleepsnow · 22/01/2023 20:27

I imagine people pay little attention to ghosts in modern clothes, unless they see them disappear.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 22/01/2023 20:30

And nobody happened to suggest to your colleague that they saw a ghost before she/he saw it?

It is curious that cameras are so ubiquitous these days that ghosts are never filmed convincingly

Oooo do tell us about them !

My son thinks he was Isaac Newton in a past life. But he pronounces the long aa in Isaac 😂

For God sake 😂

'I'm not woo'

'Victorian house' -it's always a Victorian house (other dead people are available in modern homes).

'I am a bit skeptical of ghosts'

You're about as 'woo' as they come!

wheresmymojo · 22/01/2023 20:58

This thread reminds me of this tweet.

If I hang around as a ghost I'm going to do this for sure...

Have you ever had multiple contact with the same dead person?
DuplicateUserName · 22/01/2023 20:59

Also, all these clever ghosts managing to take their clothes with them when they die.

I'd better sort myself a decent outfit. I can't be wandering around for all eternity in my onesie.

Goodread1 · 22/01/2023 21:07

I have thankfully never seen Appropration a Ghost,

But often me and my friends. See people who walking about who very much remind us of loved losed ones from our families or friends who have gone over to spirit,

It's a bit weird and apparently not that unusual
it's like they are still amongst us in a funny way obviously not in a hilarious way, maybe strangely comforting or something 🤔

Lost123454 · 22/01/2023 21:18

Not me but I worked with a guy who said he had seen the ghost of a young girl three times

We were talking about the tv program the Enfield poltergeist and he then mentioned the girl

I've no doubt that he believed he had seen her. I'd known him a good five years and he was a very serious, quiet, unassuming man. He wasn't the sort of person to tell a joke or wind people up. He rang his daughter whilst I was there and asked her what the name was that they'd given the girl as she'd seen her too

They lived in a newish apartment in London that had been built where a train line used to be. He looked into the history and there was a crash and people died. He said the girl was burnt and that one time she walked through the apartment and that another time he saw her sitting fully clothed in the bath

Be just my luck to hang around for eternity in my baggy arsed PJs. I think I will change into a torn wedding dress or something equally ethereal if I feel poorly, just in case.

That's because ghosts are an imprint of energy. Something significant must have happened to cause the imprint, a murder for example.

Intrigued, how should he pronounce it? I say I-zuhk but I often hear I-ZAK particularly from Aussies.

Images of a little boy in a stovepipe hat etc etc!

I would just about soil myself if I saw a burnt ghost in my flat! Blush

I remember seeing David Mitchell talking about ghosts and saying if they existed London would be absolutely full of them - you wouldn’t be able to move in central London for ghosts. 😄

Scumbling · 23/01/2023 08:21

So when you say ‘it’s odd that more than one person had seen her’, you and your sister were suggestible small children, you don’t in fact remember seeing anything, but your sister claims to, and in the case of the other person, it’s also pure hearsay?

tinselandjoy · 23/01/2023 08:45

@scrumbling I don't remember it but my DF when I asked said I used to talk about a lady with a long skirt and saw her in the garden, in the kitchen and in the bedroom. He didn't volunteer the information until I asked.

The person who saw her in the hall was there for dinner and came back from the loo, so not hearsay as we were there.

I didn't know anything about it until the dinner conversation with the family friend when we were all there. My DSis remembers she used to talk about a lady but outgrew it when she was about four.

Our house is Victorian but not grand, it's just a terrace.

You’ve just reminded me of a program from about thirty years ago by Malcolm McClaren - The Ghosts of Oxford Street. Loved that.
