What is it with Eddie Izzard?

Bbq1 · 22/01/2023 10:11

Just yesterday watched a really good film, 6 Minutes to Midnight .Eddie Izzard co wrote the screenplay(based on a true story) and acted it it. He was actually very good. As I was interested in the truth being the film I browsed for articles about it. I ended up on an interview with Izzard. Now I know he's claimed to identify as a woman in the past but what it said in the article was ridiculous. It explained that Izzard is more comfortable being referred to as a woman. In everyday life and stand up he may present as a woman but he only ever takes on sle acting roles. Throughout the article he was referred to as she. Obviously he is saying he's a different sex when he feels like it but picking and choosing? That doesn't seem right?

'Boy-mode' when acting = more money than 'girl-mode'.

sianiboo · 22/01/2023 13:47

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll Your reaction was exactly the same as mine when my partner told me...only mine had a lot more swear words in it!

Of course he doesn't 'need' it ... as a 54 year old actual woman, I do fucking need it, but as a 2 times cancer survivor I can't take it. Of course some reading that would think 'jealous' but I'm not. All I see is yet again a man muscling in yelling 'me too' on a situation that only affects women...and being taken bloody seriously!

He doesn't seem like the kind to do anything for cheap publicity imo. Maybe he actually just believes people shouldn't have to be constrained to stereotypes?

That’s what he believed when he just wore womens clothing. Now he actually believes he's somehow miraculously changed sex.

lemmein · 22/01/2023 13:56

I don't believe he does - as much as people chant TWAW I don't believe anybody really believes EI is a woman, even Eddie.

They've just found a way of invading women's spaces and people are too scared to challenge it for fear of being called a bigot.

What a time to be alive 🤦🏻‍♀️

On a website predominantly for women (the ones with vaginas), the erosion of women's rights in the name of 'gender identity' is pretty important to most of us. Or it should be. The more exposure this madness gets, the better.

As an aside.. I think the reason these men like to use women's toilets is because they are afraid of getting a good kicking if they go in the men's. It has nothing to do with identifying as a woman at all. They are just protecting their balls

Well, that’s what they would say. If you ask men though ( which I have) they are pretty disquieted by something like EI in full rig. My Dh says he would ‘zip up , wash his hands and get the fuck out of there’ , because that sort of thing would make hi, feel very uncomfortable at a time when he is vulnerable’ ( dick out). No kicking.

but surely going about in 'girl mode' where he wears lippy and stilletoes means that he is EXACTLY conforming to stereotypes.

Rather than what he USED to say, before trans became the popular bandwagon - that those clothes were not women's clothes, they were HIS clothes, and that he was a transvestite. Far more honest, and far more breaking out of a stereotype. He never used to claim that he was an actual women.

Sure transvestites now come under the trans umbrella - due to the new definitions - in the past all the laws, sex changing on birth certificates and mental health support was legislated and for the benefit of transexuals, but the language change from transexual to transgender allowed a much, much larger demographic and transvestites outnumber transexuals by about 9:1. It was the Beaumont society in the UK who campaigned for this, a society set up for mainly professional heterosexual rich white men with a penchant for cross dressing.

as a result we end up with people like Eddie insisting that he is actually a woman now, because historically a tiny tiny number of men had been permitted to have this acknowledged 'legal fiction' changed on their birth certificates, and from the power of those same middle aged white straight men who ever blurred both the language and definitions of the equality act

Re EI continuing to take acting jobs playing male characters - I wonder how Elliot Page is getting on with securing acting roles that reflect EP's transition to transman. I see from IMDB that Page's most recent work is doing voiceovers. I can imagine roles in front of the camera may be proving scarce.

TonTonMacoute · 22/01/2023 16:16

CampervanKween · 22/01/2023 10:17

Yes it is very odd I agree. Seems like he's a transvestite who has realised trans is fashionable and so has jumped on it to further his career. I guess it brings him to the attention of a younger audience. With people like that, it's all about free publicity.

This!

DrBlackbird · 22/01/2023 20:58

I wonder how Elliot Page is getting on with securing acting roles that reflect EP's transition to transman but in the meanwhile has done plenty of damage as a Instagram ‘role model’ proudly displaying their double mastectomy to thousands of impressionable young girls. Ditto Mae Martin, Ash Harding etc etc etc.

Dowhadiddydiddydum · 11/10/2023 14:53

I know I probably have not right to feel this way, but I personally felt disappointed in Eddie coming out as trans/woman.

In his older comedy he always spoke about wearing what he want, and I felt like he was breaking gender stereo types by being a man being comfortable to be masculine while also wearing heels etc.
Now I feel like he’s a transwoman adhering to female gender stereo types.

I think I have read that although Eddie prefers she/her pronouns that’s just a preference and offence won’t be taken at he being used. I think that’s a sensible approach that recognises you can’t police what’s others say (if that’s still the case and Eddie hasn’t since said more)

Stereotypes?
"Male" and "female" are not stereotypes. They are biological descriptions of an individual person or animal. It is not a feeling or an inclination.

And wearing a dress and makeup to denote "womanhood" is pandering to stereotypes in the most reductuve, unimaginative and insulting way.

I would very much argue that for him it is a feeling and an inclination. I don't pretend to understand someone else's feelings and inclinations, nor to tell them they are wrong to have them.

No one is saying anyone is wrong to have any sorts of feelings or inclinations; the point is that having the feeling or inclination that you'd like to be a woman (or indeed anything else) doesn't make you one.

HermioneWeasley · 11/10/2023 21:48

There is not one single person on this planet, including Eddie Izzard, who truly believes Eddie is a woman.

He doesn't say he is a woman, he says he's in girl-mode. I'm sure he doesn't believe he is a woman any more than he believes in unicorns. Why is this so upsetting to you?

Yes, people who disagree with you must be “upset” 🙄.

If Eddie knows he’s not a woman, why does he use women’s toilets?

Baldieheid · 12/10/2023 11:20

He's not female, and he's well aware of that, yet he continously breaches single sex spaces and forces his male body into the spaces intended for female people only. Irrespective of how unwelcome he is in those spaces.

Now why, oh why, would he do that?

Hmmm?

Any why, oh why, are some women so fucking complacent about the harm this causes to other women?

Is it cos he's a bloke and therefore far more important than the cunty kind of human?

IcakedefargeIam · 12/10/2023 11:24

People's entitlements to their 'feelings and inclinations' stop when they begin to be detrimental to another nonconsenting person.

No, silly, not when the non-consenting people are mere women.

Men's feelings come first. As ever.

True, also sometimes children.
