What is it with Eddie Izzard?

Just yesterday watched a really good film, 6 Minutes to Midnight .Eddie Izzard co wrote the screenplay(based on a true story) and acted it it. He was actually very good. As I was interested in the truth being the film I browsed for articles about it. I ended up on an interview with Izzard. Now I know he's claimed to identify as a woman in the past but what it said in the article was ridiculous. It explained that Izzard is more comfortable being referred to as a woman. In everyday life and stand up he may present as a woman but he only ever takes on sle acting roles. Throughout the article he was referred to as she. Obviously he is saying he's a different sex when he feels like it but picking and choosing? That doesn't seem right?

I used to greatly admire Izzard as someone who stood out against stereotypes and was proud of being a ‘transvestite’ - a male who liked wearing makeup, skirts, pink, etc.

However, he’s now decided that sometimes he is in ‘girl mode’ (his wording) and wants to be addressed as she.

And I’m disappointed that he’s now conforming to the stereotypes of society’s gender and now that makes him a ‘woman’ if he doesn’t wear ‘male’ clothes.

Because that’s the new definition of a woman. According to the people with penises.

Sums up how I feel. Used to admire him, now not so much.

His change from understanding that men can wear dresses and nail polish to if you put them on you are female is the moment he passed from decent man to predator.

Love tits so I got my own to fondle and now your daughter must shower next to me. Cos I'm a lesbian now!

Vomit.
Ignorant, sexist dangerous narcissism.
Never be alone with him anywhere.

I guess this sums it up.

Disappointing. I thought he was better / smarter than that.

Wonnle · 22/01/2023 10:36

The thing with Eddie Izzard is he's/she's turned into a TWAT !

PerilousErection · 22/01/2023 10:36

He's cruised into that back corner of looking like a dickhead. He can't explain what 'makes' him a "girl" one day and not the next because he's the ultimate former male transvestite with a cross dressing fetishism who only now comes under the cool and trendy Stonewall Trans umbrella.

1000yellowdaisies · 22/01/2023 10:38

He's a man who used to dress as a woman because he got a kick out of it and it was part of his 'comedy' act. Now being trans is the popular thing of the moment hes decided to dress as a woman all the time and insist to be refered to as she. Its sexual kink made public and its gross.

CampervanKween · 22/01/2023 10:41

You're right about older men just not "passing" as women. I was watching The Peripheral on Amazon when this character turned up. He looked and sounded like an elderly camp man but all the characters were referring to him as "she". When I googled the actor, it's an elderly male who has transitioned. I had to stop watching the programme, it was too wierd. Just jarring. I think watching Izzard pretending to be a woman on screen would also be too much of a stretch. Especially when he's a good looking man for his age. As elderly women, they just look really odd.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 22/01/2023 10:43

When I see him on the TV I get the 'ick' big time. He's an imposter. He likes attention and he's a creep to boot. He is also crap at applying make-up

TheShellBeach · 22/01/2023 10:44

Tyrozet · 22/01/2023 10:19

I suppose Eddie Izzard still looks traditionally masculine, even when wearing make-up etc. I presume they don't have the right "look" for a female role and that's why they play males, even if they present as female in their personal life?

I always assumed they were male but preferred quite a flamboyant and feminine way of dressing.

"They" were male?
He's a man. Just one. "He" is the correct way to describe him.

Bbq1 · 22/01/2023 10:45

I've just made the grave mistake of googling pictures of Izzard dressed etc as a woman... Wish I hadn't... Does he actually have breasts?

lljkk · 22/01/2023 10:45

Did you read about when he ran 30 marathons in 30 days or whatever it was. He had so much good publicity and the highest possible personal ratings in public opinion polls ... and he squandered it with weird behaviour, smeared lipstick and a pink beret. Same with his stand up, some of it is brilliant really spoke to people's feelings with compassion & humour... and he lost that good will too. Just keeps squandering his personal capital.

I don't care if he identifies as a blue hamster from Alpha Centari, but I can't get him either. So much opportunity to do good works & he keeps blowing it.

Lizzypet · 22/01/2023 10:31

Eddie has stated that (as far as I'm aware currently) she wants to be referred to as she/her. I'm not having a go at your post here - far from it. I just think that it shows what a ridiculous world we live in that you're clearly trying to respect a person's wishes but could be accused of mis pronouning them! I used to absolutely love Eddie's comedy, saw a live performance about 10 yes ago & it was fantastic, but find it all very tiresome now.

That's fine, but I wasn't aware she had stated a preference until I read the OP, at which point I hadn't heard or read it directly from something EI had said or written but the OP implied some ambiguity.

I used "they" because it wasn't clear cut what else to use, the same way I would use "they" if someone told me about their child and didn't state son/daughter or said partner and didn't specify girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife.

I don't understand why people suddenly find it so difficult to understand how to use the word when we've been doing it for years without question.

bellinisurge · 22/01/2023 10:46

He's an autogynophile. As are many of these most vulnerable

No, "they" is perfectly fine and can be used as singular or plural.

If you're going to attempt to correct people at least ensure you're actually correct yourself.

What is it with Eddie Izzard?
NotDavidTennant · 22/01/2023 10:54

His trajectory is fairly typical for late transitioning males. Private cross-dressing to public cross-dressing to transitioning in limited social contexts to full transition.

As people have said, it's likely only the need to keep getting work as an actor that is preventing him from completely transitioning. If he ever gets his wish to move from acting into politics I suspect he will gradually jettison "boy mode".

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/01/2023 10:54

If Eddie truly believes that Eddie is a woman and wants to be treated as such, why on earth is Eddie seeking to appropriate acting roles - as male characters - that, going by Eddie's own reasoning, should rightly belong to people in groups to which Eddie does not belong? Would Eddie go for a starring role in a biopic of Nelson Mandela or Jackie Chan? If not, why not? Why is Eddie not challenged on this? Why is there no outcry over this?

Suppose Eddie were to go for/be given a role playing Josephine Baker, would there be a double outcry or would one of the two immutable characteristics that most clearly do not correspond with Eddie's rightly cause outrage, whilst the other would be simply ignored - with only 'haters' even pointing it out?

ginghamstarfish · 22/01/2023 10:56

Can't bear the sight of him, attention-seeking twat.

fruitstick · 22/01/2023 10:59

I genuinely don't understand.

I adored his stand up and went to all of his shows, including his first tour. I can quote most of the routines.

I completely agreed with the 'total clothing rights /bloke in a dress' stance and it is a very inclusive view to have.

However I guess it's not a view that fits well with modern gender identity thinking. It would be difficult to maintain that stance in the current debate.

But I find it offensive when he talks of 'girl mode' and how one can switch just by putting on different shoes.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/01/2023 11:07

I completely agreed with the 'total clothing rights /bloke in a dress' stance and it is a very inclusive view to have.

It's the zeitgeist of cognitive dissonance by order.

The way that we aspire to inclusion is not, as one may expect, to allow people to accept who they are at a fundamental level but, going on from that, make any of a wide range of choices as to clothes, hobbies, personality, careers etc.; but rather our modern brand of 'inclusivity' seeks to force people to conform and be locked in a socially prescribed box that allows only a limited number of choices, all based on stereotypes.

We want inclusive freedom as long as you only use your 'freedom' to choose what we say you can; and if you want to make any choices outside of those that we will allow, we force upon you the 'freedom' to choose again until you get it 'right'.

Eddie Izzard has publicly said that he has a breast fetish and that is part of his wanting to be a woman.

But, yes, OP, men do pick and choose when they want to 'be' a woman, and guess what, they pick the sparkly, fun clothes/make-up, having breasts, being paid more parts, rather than the endometriosis, childbirth, menopuase, rape, violence, domestic drudgery, worse pay parts, that real women can't opt out of. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

This needs repeating over and over. Women do not get to identify out of being female. Such as how the women in Afghanistan don’t get to identify out of being female or girls subjected to FGM or the young woman in Pakistan murdered for wearing jeans.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 22/01/2023 11:15

As an aside.. I think the reason these men like to use women's toilets is because they are afraid of getting a good kicking if they go in the men's. It has nothing to do with identifying as a woman at all. They are just protecting their balls

No, that was my point! I could see that you were trying to be respectful by using 'they' but it seems that Eddie and others are so sensitive that they could take offence at this if their current preferred pronoun is she.Why don't we all just become 'it' and be done with it.

BridasShieldWall · 22/01/2023 11:30

Along with lots of others I used to like him. Now I can’t stand him and won’t watch anything with him in. Yes - he has to act as a male as he is completely unbelievable as a female. Read the thread below, it’s about an extract from Eddie’s biography about changing for the first time in female toilets and the awful 13 year old girls who were skipping school and smoking (clue that makes them the baddies) and Eddie standing up for inclusivity and all that is right (the goodie).
