When your adult children judge you in your own damn house

Just that really...! Husband & I popped to the pub. Beds changed, House clean, food in house, all washing done. Popped to pub. 19 year old "wasn't expecting us to be out so late" 6pm. Dinner was half prepared before we left. Would I be bloody unreasonable to punch the pretentious twat from here to 2030?? Year - not time!!!

Tell your 19 year old they know where the kitchen is, and from now on, they can cook their own meals. I really hope you're not doing their washing.

Based on your post, I think that's a huge overreaction on your part.

But then you describe your child as a pretentious twat so only you know the answer as to whether it was a joke or not.

Awaiting the drip feed now....

YukoandHiro · 21/01/2023 19:27

There's something else going on here though lord knows what.

NerrSnerr · 21/01/2023 19:27

I assume you mean you changed the 19 year old's bed and did their washing?

Maybe you should step back and let them do their shopping, cooking and cleaning?

orbitalcrisis · 21/01/2023 19:35

You son wasn't expecting you to be out so late and that makes him a pretentious twat? I think it's a fair assumption for him to make as you left in the middle of getting dinner ready. How much have you had?

meetmeatmidnights · 21/01/2023 19:36

Dinner was half prepared? Did they expect you to be back and making a family meal or something as previously discussed or?

Bit of a jump to call them pretentious and want to punch them! Blimey how much have you had to drink?!

Thereisnolight · 21/01/2023 19:37

How much do you normally drink?

SomethingWitty44 · 21/01/2023 19:39

Oh sorry, no drip feed, changed the adults bedsheets. Just me venting to anyone that would listen that my adult child would judge us coming home from the pub after a couple of drinks. Me being dramatic & a couple Pinot's down - my rl friends are all about their prodigies

HavingColleaguesSucksSomedays · 21/01/2023 19:39

I have never felt the urge to call my children pretentious twats OP.
Perhaps they just hadn't expected you to be out at that time if it isn't something you do regularly.
Your post seems unreasonable and unnecessarily aggressive.

LakeTiticaca · 21/01/2023 19:40

Only 2030? You lightweight!! Should be at least 2050 😉

PlimplePlop · 21/01/2023 19:41

Have you been drinking excessively? Do you normally use unpleasant cruel language to describe your child?

MiddleParking · 21/01/2023 19:41

I mean, if you make a habit of calling your child (erroneous) names when you’ve had ‘a couple of Pinots’ I can see why they might be anxious about you being in the pub.

Catlady2021 · 21/01/2023 19:42

Lots of threads on here aren’t making sense tonight. Clearly people staring threads after a drink. But doesn’t make sense for the reader..

HavingColleaguesSucksSomedays · 21/01/2023 19:44

Yeah, put the Pinot down for tonight OP and leave your kid alone!

Outfor150 · 21/01/2023 19:49

I can’t see anything at all pretentious or twatty about what the DC said. What’s the house being clean and the sheets washed got to do with anything?

‘Entitled’ not ‘pretentious’.

Arewethebadguys · 21/01/2023 19:50

FFS. She's clearly joking. You lot are vicious tonight. Maybe if more of you had a couple of pilot's you could remove the stick from out your arses

hugoagogo · 21/01/2023 19:50

A couple of pilotsGrin

hugoagogo · 21/01/2023 19:51

I have had a couple of sauvignons and totally get it.Wink

Arewethebadguys · 21/01/2023 19:52

Down in flames 😳

Roselilly36 · 21/01/2023 19:55

Yes, we get told off if we are late home, and we are never late home 😂 it’s a bit like what time do you call this, our DS’ are 21 & 19, we always say we should be saying this to you!

watcherintherye · 21/01/2023 19:55

On the basis of your op, yes you do sound a bit unreasonable! I have three dc, all of whom are or have been teenagers, with all that entails, but I don’t think I’ve ever contemplated punching any of them. Or called them twats, come to that, although I can’t really talk, as I did once refer to 2 of them as little shits (out of earshot, I thought), and I’ve never been able to live it down, even though I apologised when I realised they’d heard! Blush

Ameadowwalk · 21/01/2023 19:59

My older DC lives away at uni but when she is home, I usually tell her when I will be home and what dinner arrangements are. Just like I prefer to know whether she will be out at dinner or elsewhere in the evening. I don’t see anything untoward in what your son said. There was a half-prepared meal in the kitchen. I do think your reaction is somewhat over the top.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/01/2023 20:00

“Just popped home for some dinner, then we’re off to town to hit the bars, maybe a club. Dont wait up!”

Oblomov22 · 21/01/2023 20:00

Ds1 said something worse, so obnoxious and pretentious when he came home from uni at Christmas. I told him what an obnoxious twerp he was.
