When your adult children judge you in your own damn house

Just that really...! Husband & I popped to the pub. Beds changed, House clean, food in house, all washing done. Popped to pub. 19 year old "wasn't expecting us to be out so late" 6pm. Dinner was half prepared before we left. Would I be bloody unreasonable to punch the pretentious twat from here to 2030?? Year - not time!!!

How much do you normally drink?

FFS. She's clearly joking. You lot are vicious tonight. Maybe if more of you had a couple of pilot's you could remove the stick from out your arses

Pilots, classic 😂

totally missing point of the thread

Skyeheather · 21/01/2023 20:20

So you started preparing dinner then you and DH decided to nip to the pub. 19 year old DC appeared for dinner at the usual time and found nothing ready?

They could have called/messaged you to ask where you were and what time dinner will be or just made themselves something else in your absence if they couldn't be bothered to wait.

Equally you could have told them that you were going to the pub and would finish dinner when you got back if you knew that they would be having dinner with you.

Seems like a simple case of miscommunication on both sides!

PlimplePlop · 21/01/2023 19:41

Have you been drinking excessively? Do you normally use unpleasant cruel language to describe your child?

Jesus christ. I have literally read it all now.. I think the whole of mumsnet needs to have a glass of wine and relax (though they would probably told they were an alcoholic for having a glass of wine once every 12 mths)

Shynapple · 21/01/2023 20:28

What does "popping" to the pub entail? I ask as you mention it twice in your opening post. How long fo you stay in the pub? I'm sorry I'm really not trying to judge, I'm just very jealous as my leisurely pub afternoons are a wistful memory

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/01/2023 20:32

You sound a bit... belligerent.

His comment is mildly annoying because you don't have to tell him where you are, but your response is like an over emotional teenager.

BreviloquentBastard · 21/01/2023 20:37

Yes god forbid a teenager not behave with utmost maturity and sense at all times. Sure you never once said anything stupid when you were 19 OP.

IWineAndDontDine · 21/01/2023 20:41

Jesus MN is ruthless tonight. OP was having a vent. In many peoples vocab, calling someone a twat or a dick or a little shit is not the end of the world and is generally lighthearted. And its perfectly normal to be irritated at your adult DC judging your evening activities... The "pretentious twats" seems to be commenting on this thread!

Elleviss · 21/01/2023 20:41

Leave the OP alone. They went for a few drinks at the weekend.
I know the feeling though. I blame the TV, especially soaps how they talk to their parents. Disgusting

Judgyjudgy · 21/01/2023 20:46

I'm not surprised they're like this if you their washing and change their sheets. 19!! Teach a person to fish OP!
And yes, kick their arse too, they sound like they need it!

Weird thing to say about your child and get so uptight about?! I’d probably think it was amusing how sensible my dc was!

Rebel2023 · 21/01/2023 20:52

I was in bed at 10pm one night, tired. Got woken up by a photo on what's app off my dad
At 3am. They were eating chips on the seafront after being in a club Confused
Mum "I showed some nice girls my bus pass! They said I looked way younger!"

Right I'll go back to sleep now thanks Grin

mauvish · 21/01/2023 20:56

You stayed out intil 6pm???!!

OMG!!! you neglectful parent, you!

(hope you enjoy another glass of pinot!)

Tessisme · 21/01/2023 21:01

I would replace 'pretentious' with 'ungrateful' or the Mumsnet favourite 'entitled'. Other than that ... work away (as they say around here)😅

Such classic, pious MN brown owl in action!

gamerchick · 21/01/2023 21:08

I think personally the past week or so, there are posters on here in serious need of getting laid. Like for real.

🙄 (like, for real).

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/01/2023 21:12

I dunno what pretentious has to do with it, but I think you might be at fault for raising him to think it’s your job to runaround after him. Anyway, that can stop right now, can’t it.

LongerThanADryJanuary23 · 21/01/2023 21:21

How much did you have to drink in the pub to a) be bothered about such a low level whinge b) to call your son a twat and c) to talk about punching him (even in jest)
He's hardly judging you, more likely just looking for his dinner and his belly rumbling (and yes, that's a separate matter of expectations, I know)

PhillySub · 21/01/2023 21:25

He/she is physically an adult but not mentally and still wants mum to to the running round.

ManchesterGirl2 · 21/01/2023 21:27

You're making no sense. Don't punch anyone.
