Medikinet XL shortage?

My ds has been taking Medikinet XL for 3 years and we’ve never had problems with its availability. However, our usual pharmacy have said that it’s unavailable to them. I’ve checked with two other pharmacies in our town who’ve said the same 😬.

Has anyone had problems?

Yes. Same here. Tried every pharmacy in 30 min radius. I'm in the South West. No one has stock and no idea when it is coming back in.

Have been told to go back to the prescribing Dr and ask for the non-brand version. Hoping it gets sorted quickly

Me too. My ds takes 20mg but the pharmacist recommended getting a prescription for 10mg tablets to make it up. I'll see if that works when I get the script.

I struggled to get Elvanse and Dex last week; a friend struggle to get Xaggitin. Huge rise in Dxs = more scripts = less in stock.

My ds takes 30+5mg in the morning and 5mg after lunch. Both the 30 and 5mg are unavailable 😖.

I struggled too. Rang 20 pharmacies luckily one had it in stock half hour drive from me. I hope I don't have the same issue next month.

Same here (Essex) - pharmacy advised national shortage. It may be worth trying one of the online pharmacies, I found one with some stock.

Yes. 10mg also out of stock nationally I was told. Ds had to be prescribed alternative meds.

Yes we have the same issue.

DD isn't the best at reliably taking her meds and now I can't get any.

Apparently they’re not being in medikinet anymore!! That’s what the pharmacist said to my mum as I’m on medikinet and Im all out already and I can’t have any other meds because I get bad side affects medikinet was the only one I didn’t have side affects with!!!

Sorry to hear others are having trouble too 😣. I phoned my gp surgery yesterday but they hasn’t heard of any shortage? They said to order early, just in case 😬. What actually happens if we can’t get any?

GPS will often say they’ve not heard of a shortage, but why would they? The pharmacies are the staff that deal with suppliers.

Mine is a sodding written script so if nowhere local has Elvanse I’m screwed

A local friend told me today her son has had to change meds because of the shortage so I am going to phone his pead tomorrow to find out what’s going on

Right, I’m going to be proactive and phone his adhd nurse on Monday. I’m not leaving it so close to needing the next prescription.

They didn't have concerta 54mg this week, and pharmacy were going to ask the Dr to prescribe generic (methylphenidate).

They had the 10mg ritalin to send. Haven't heard back that they've got the generic and that was a few days ago

@Simulacra - I was at the pharmacy today for Elvanse - pharmacist said just occasional problems with Elvanse atm but majority of the time it’s in stock, main problem is with dex and Medikinet ( but he had some generic in for those).

I’ve left a message with our neurodevelopmental team so hoping they’ll be able to preempt the issue and prescribe the unbranded version 🤞🏼.

Yup, we have a generic script thankfully but DD is on 40mg Medikinet XL. Had to get 12 40mg pills as they had those in but the rest I had to get 36 20mg Equasym XL. And this is after going to lots of different pharmacies. Same thing last month and the month before. Seems all wholesalers out of stock.

On a related note, what dosage have people found effective? My daughter (age 10) has recently had an ADHD diagnosis and takes 1 x 10mg in the morning - her school, who engage well, say it's effective but appears to wear off around lunchtime.

This prompted me to call the pharmacy about my prescription (Concerta XL) - all out of stock. Nightmare. I guess I'm going around pharmacies after work to try and find one with it in stock!
