I feel like people on Mumsnet always mention doing a hobby and I don't have one!

What are all these hobbies that people are doing? Enlighten me please I'd like a hobby!

Not sure if other life stuff counts! But I’ll walk the dog, see friend, read, bake, mindlessly brows mumsnet lol

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/01/2023 21:19

Running
gym
I like painting furniture and doing diy but it’s not exactly a hobby as I don’t do it regularly
this year I am going to buy myself a greenhouse and grow some veg as a new hobby

Heddaga · 19/01/2023 21:30

Oh these sound lovely! I'd love a greenhouse @thenewaveragebear1983 I can't quite get my head around when you're supposed to plant stuff and then keep it warm etc. I like that these hobbies seem easy to start. I was worried you'd all say windsurfing or something equally as difficult!

I always imagined hobbies as something scheduled that you had to leave the house for but this is promising!

Oo if Tv counts @practicepracticepractice I've definitely got a hobby!

We also have small greenhouses at home and a small bit of garden we grow rhubard /strawberries /tomatoes
Invest in some big planters and get growing!

Drawing
Research on topics that I want to know more about before I die, art, human psychology, current cultural influence.
Exploring new music, spoken word.
A lot of this can be done via internet
I have a lovely new digital camera, not on a phone, that I use on manual settings
I chase street art no matter how terrible it is

Hobbies are about what you want to know about before you die, in my very humble opinion.

Life, humans, the world, housing, architecture, just the amazement of cars and travel and life. It doesn't just have to be "X" OP it can just be a wonder of trying to fit many passions together.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/01/2023 21:47

Reading, playing the drums, choir, dance exercise class, brownie leader

Stillwearingskinnies · 19/01/2023 22:00

Reading, walking, jigsaw puzzles and this year I'm going to
learn to play the piano (played as a child but not for years),
make more effort to learn about gardening (completely clueless) and
try and get back into running (after lots of injuries).
I might try cross-stitch and people keep suggesting Pilates for my bad back but it's quite boring.
I have good intentions but you know, life...

Decafflatteplease · 19/01/2023 22:06

Reading I aim for 20 mins a day minimum i should be reading now rather than faffing on here

Gardening just easy stuff, in the warmer months, strawberries are super easy. I also do courgettes, mange tout, broad beans they all seem to do very well. Tomatoes also easy. You don't have to grow from seed you can buy small plants.

Sewing...can do while watching TV. Great to feel like I've accomplished something!

sunseaandme · 19/01/2023 22:07

Pre baby I used to enjoy reading, watercolour painting (I'm terrible at it but who cares!), jigsaw puzzles, and was trying to learn piano

GladysPew · 19/01/2023 22:09

Sewing
Knitting
DIY
Play golf

Phos · 19/01/2023 22:11

Reading
Drawing (I'm crap at it but doing online tutorials)
Lego
Ice skating but I've got awful sciatica at the moment

I'd love to learn to knit but I haven't got around to it.

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 19/01/2023 22:14

Sitting on the sofa drinking wine...? No but really, I've always felt inadequate because I'm terrible at sport, and not that talented at anything musical. I do like faffing around decorating my house, but not sure that really counts as a hobby! I really enjoy my job and seeing friends, and looking after my toddler. I don't have lots of time for anything else really!

onesadmama · 19/01/2023 22:16

Pre baby I was getting into ceramics. Post baby, I can't afford the £30 it now costs to fire the kiln (used to be £6 😪)

Heddaga · 20/01/2023 13:02

@onesadmama oh no that's crap. That's a big price hike! I do like a bit of pottery actually myself. I might get back into that. Thanks for sharing with me everyone I think I'm going to try and learn the piano. I love a bit of tinkly piano music.
