Help Deciphering a Signature

Can anyone help decipher this signature. It is on a watercolour painting of the outside an old house. The painting is pretty enough but doesn't look like it would be worth anything but I'd still like to see if it's possible to find out who painted it.

I really can't read the flowery letters at all.

Thank you 😊

There's a Charles Wellington furse who's a painter?

spiderlight · 16/01/2023 10:42

W. C. (or G.) Furse

OvaryActions · 16/01/2023 10:42

It looks like 'square' 'squiggle' 'false' to me 🤷🏽‍♀️ but now I'm invested so hopefully someone cleverer will come along and put us out of our misery 😅

What does the painting look like? (Just being nosey)

DontMakeMeShushYou · 16/01/2023 10:43

H. E. Furse?

There's a painter called Charles Wellington Furse, if that's any help.

Oh yes I see how it could be W and G/C ...makes more sense than square squiggle Blush

H. E. Furse?

And apparently one exists! www.royalacademy.org.uk/art-artists/name/hubert-edwin-furse

OvaryActions · 16/01/2023 10:45

Now looking at it I think the initials are W and E (one of those squiggly Es)

SoupDragon · 16/01/2023 10:45

I thought the initials could be W E and the surname Farse, Furse, Faise...? I'm fairly confident it's a F and ends in SE.

Looking at Google images it doesn't seem to be his signature though. Which is a shame!

Oh my!! So many responses so quickly. Thank you so much 😁😁😁

Im not really expecting the artist to be listed anywhere as I suspect they were just an amateur. Here is the picture.

Here, not a great photo I'm afraid.

W E Furse was my first thought too.

pigsinoodies · 16/01/2023 11:18

Google tells me there was a work by a W.E. Furse listed in the "Sothebys 2004 British and Continental Pictures" catalogue. What help that is I don't know.

To me, the signature looks easier to read at this distance and o agree with others that it's 'H E Furse'
