Someone selling coasters with tea splattered all over them. I'm honestly gobsmacked.

I think I’m looking for things all wrong on Vinted/EBay.
I’ve tried to be more mindful about buying things, not that I’ve ever been someone who bought loads of clothes.
I’ve never found a single item on either of them that I’d want to buy. I’ve tried being quite specific in the search bar all the way down to just the category - nada. How are people finding things?!

I think when you just browse it all looks abit rubbish. However, I have managed to find so much that I first saw on the retailers website first. I often think the sellers images aren't the best (my own included) especially when it's just hung on a door/lay on someone's bed.
If I see something online now I always just check on Vinted. I narrow it down by giving a brief description and then filter it to that particular brand. I would say I have been successful 50% of the time!

So what exactly IS the point to your thread?

OP explains it in the post you quoted! That the seller couldn't be arsed giving the coasters a quick wipe to remove the tea stains.

Er the point of my thread was I thought it was funny and wanted to share? Christ, bet you're fun at a dinner party.

I listed 10 things yesterday and sold 8 by this morning!

iklboo · 15/01/2023 23:34

@bookworm1982 - I was quoting another poster (in bold) then went on to explain to them what the point of your post was. Literally on your side.

And, yes, I am fun at dinner parties, thanks.

iklboo · 15/01/2023 23:35

@Cuppasoupmonster - see my post to OP.

I'm on the phone app & the 'quote' function is more miss than hit.

BluIsTheColour · 15/01/2023 23:37

I cld get those tea stains out I bet with some pink stuff. More to the point though u cld buy them for that price brand new without the postage. However just fuckin bin then instead of trying to flog ur filthy goods!

I've seen some awful shoes like that are covered in stains and look like they been worn a thousand times and noted with "plenty of life left" 😂🙈 No they are only fit for the bin!

Yes sorry I knew it wasn’t you saying it and assumed you’d know I was replying to the poster you quoted 😬 if that makes sense

Hill1991 · 15/01/2023 23:51

I found a job lot of peppa pig figurines that all had one ear missing each the same ear wanting nearly the same price to buy it new

MintyCedric · 16/01/2023 00:02

I thought much the same about FB Marketplace when I stumbled across this the other day...

I remember the 'money for old rope' article, he found some washed up rope on the beach listed it on Ebay and sold it! If I recall he didn't factor in p&p though😉

Wasn't that Matt Allwright on Watchdog? I remember that.

Is that 'banana cleaner' for real, or is it something that belongs on the Love Honey website?!

If the seller of those coasters finds a buyer, what will be next: 'carefully preloved white cotton pants with characterful deep-set variegated yellow and brown random permanent patterning, which only serves to add texture and an interesting talking-point to this already fascinating curio that will be the envy of all your friends' ?!

Nooo, sorry that was aimed at Raspberry290 because they annoyed me! Not aimed at you, sorry it wouldn't allow me to quote again x

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll it's definitely not for cleaning bananas!

No, it was a set and 'barely used'! 🤮

RaininginDarling · 16/01/2023 10:27

After a rocky start for me, I really like Vinted. It's pretty straightforward to buy or sell.

I recently purchased a Seasalt raincoat for under a tenner (including postage) and an Alice Temperley knee length wedding dress for less than £20.

I do find the sizing mad and the search is basic but prefer it to ebay which just got too complicated to upload anything.

iklboo · 16/01/2023 10:35

@bookworm1982 @Cuppasoupmonster 😂. What are we like?!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/01/2023 10:52

Ah, right, then - I did have a vague idea that it was probably intended for giving something other than bananas a good old polish!!

TroysMammy · 16/01/2023 11:04

I wouldn't even give them to a charity shop. If they were mine I might paint them and keep them for a bit longer.

I remember going to car boots sales and people would be selling bits of old rope and rusty tools. I don't know if they sold them but plenty of men were showing an interest.

I think it’s people desperate for cash. I do however agree things should be cleaned, I’ve seen quite a lot of things where people are trying to sell and write just needs a clean and I do wonder why they don’t do that themselves.

rhe saddest one I saw in our village selling site was someone trying to sell their kids used school shoes for a couple of quid. They were totally done in. Filthy, soles falling off, heavily scuffed. the lot

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 16/01/2023 12:46

I searched for some kids’ shoes on there the other day, found what I wanted new with tags but more expensive than Amazon had them in the sale. Made an offer with a “hope you don’t mind the offer but these are going for xx online” and the seller said “no, I want xx”. Why TF would I buy them from you plus postage when I can get them actually new elsewhere for less money?! Bizarre. But not as bizarre as those coasters!

MeganLogan · 16/01/2023 12:48

My favourite is ‘good condition’ and it literally has holes and frayed bits.
