A framed Moomin picture on the opposite wall.

If I look down, I see trainers and wellies.

OxanaVorontsova · 12/02/2023 08:21

The stairs

But we don’t use the front door, so the first thing I see when I get home is the dog and the lovely new kitchen.

Tumbleweed101 · 12/02/2023 08:25

Stairs that pretty much reach the front door, shoes and coats on the door to kitchen and my dog who always seems torn between greeting us and wanting to torment us by running outside!

IHeartGeneHunt · 12/02/2023 08:30

A bookcase, shortly followed by a Jack Russell at warp speed.

TinaYouFatLard · 12/02/2023 08:31

Our front door is lined up so that you walk in and see straight through to the glass at the back and out into the garden.

In reality all you notice (like many others) is a mud caked doormat, every pair of shoes in the house (except mine) scattered, kit bags, coats etc and the shoe and coat cupboard door wide open to highlight its empty interior.

DurhamDurham · 12/02/2023 08:35

The hallway to the kitchen. If the kitchen door is open you can see through the window to the garden. If it's closed then it's just a semi glazed internal kitchen door which isn't as inviting.

Rug , hall table, doors to understairs cupboards, stairs, weird little nook (old house funny shape walls), which we've turned into coat storage with a high shelf with coat hooks and padded bench with drawers underneath for hats gloves etc. Shoes live in a rack in one of the under stairs cupboards. Door to the morning room.
There's not really one thing you walk in and see the hallway and the things in it.

kimchifix · 12/02/2023 08:38

Dogs, post on the floor others have walked over Hmm

BarrelOfOtters · 12/02/2023 08:38

A dog carrying a slipper and a ca5 looking at her with pity.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/02/2023 08:38

Small hall table with (usually) post and other stuff dumped on it.

@MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig , when we had a dog she’d be the first thing - with a shoe in her mouth. She always had to bring a shoe as a present. 🐶❤️

Council recyling bags.

Turquoiz · 12/02/2023 08:44

Coat rack and shoe stand. I hate it, it looks cluttered and messy. I'm going to remodel the hall and have a nice tidy cupboard at some stage, but there's a cost of living crisis so can't afford it right now.

larchforest · 12/02/2023 08:56

A Fu Dog.

connie26 · 12/02/2023 08:56

A 1950s telephone seat which I've recently revamped. I love it!

AllotmentTime · 12/02/2023 09:03

Right now: foam sword, DS’ backpack, DD’s new shoes left lying around to remind her to wear them in, three other backpacks/bags from swimming/sailing/playing which I’M NOT PUTTING AWAY BECAUSE I DIDN’T LEAVE THEM THERE*

*clearly I eventually will

Also, usually a DCat who runs over to the front door with excitement, then remembers she’s terrified of Front Outside so streaks back through the lounge to safety, then runs back to the exciting front door…. repeats this for as long as the front door is open because she’s a fucking idiot

It's actually lovely here. When we extended we moved the kitchen door, so now coming in, you look straight through the hallway into the kitchen /diner and into the garden beyond.

For years we had the 'shoe' issue but now have a long cubbyhole bench with a seat above so all is neat now (well it is when DD doesn't pile her boots up NEXT to the shoes cubby holes 😬🙄). It's a narrow hall but the arrangement works pretty well.

We used to have a phone too, but that's gone now.

WonderingWanda · 12/02/2023 09:15

All the crap the kids have dumped on the hallway floor despite an abundance of cupboards to put it all in!

Puyi · 12/02/2023 09:17

Chest freezers and a coat rack.

SideshowAuntSallly · 12/02/2023 09:18

Usually a cat or two.

BooksAndHooks · 12/02/2023 09:19

Shoes, coats and post if I haven’t been at home. Everyone else ignores the proper place for these things and leave shoes in the hallway, post piles on the stairs and coats on the newel post which inevitably fall off.

I live in the country, never use the front door!

Same!
