Get a wooden spoon and use the handle to push the cork into the bottle.

Try again with corkscrew

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/01/2023 23:05

Try a corkscrew again. You should be able to pull it out.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/01/2023 23:05

Put the bottom of the bottle into the heel of a shoe. Firmly bang the heel of the shoe against the doorway.

KindergartenKop · 14/01/2023 23:07

Or just 😭

purplecorkheart · 14/01/2023 23:08

Use the corkscrew again. It should just pop out.

purpleme12 · 14/01/2023 23:10

I didn't use a corkscrew I don't have one I thought it was one of those ones you just twist but it's not worked 😭 it's been a fucking shit day I don't know when it's going to improve I don't know what to do 😭

Get a pen, insert in the top and tap down hard.
a tip given to me after trying to gouge a cork out .

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 14/01/2023 23:15

So you push it down with a wooden spoon into the bottle, then slip your little finger into the top of the bottle and sip a little of the wine until the vacuum shifts and the cork settles into the bottle and you can pour the wine into glass. I have done this many times (not even broken cork just no corkscrew) and guaranteed success!

Thesonglastslonger · 14/01/2023 23:15

Ok so your options are:

  1. Abandon the plan to drink this tonight and do something else eg sleep / watch tv.
  2. Get a sharp knife and try to break the cork into little pieces. This will probably not work and if it does you’ll have bits of cork in the wine (although you can sive them out).
  3. Borrow/buy a corkscrew.
purpleme12 · 14/01/2023 23:15

It just came to me I got a hammer it broke the top but it worked

Force the cork down into the bottom of the bottle
Sieve the wine into a jug/big mug
Carefully pour into your wine glass
Fish out fragments of cork with your finger
Drink wine
Secretly wonder if it was worth the hassle
Decide that it was
Resieve
Repeat
Wake up tomorrow
Buy a wine box
😜

OMG! Are you Jack Monroe?

Hope your hand is OK OP. I would not drink that wine, it could have bits of glass in it. Call it a night.

Moomoomeemee · 14/01/2023 23:20

Yeah, don't drink wine when the bottle has been smashed with a hammer please

purpleme12 · 14/01/2023 23:23

I don't know the link between this and Jack Monroe I don't follow her. It's been such a shit day and I'm not thinking right and I don't know what to do anymore

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 14/01/2023 23:23

But it's just a little cut don't worry

OP posts:
Sgtmajormummy · 14/01/2023 23:26

I read your update OP Sad but for future reference:
Most people have random screws hanging around. Screw one deep into what’s left of the cork and lever it out with the prongs of a fork.

IClaudine · 14/01/2023 23:27

Jack Monroe is a food writer who wrote a dubious tip about using a hammer and a knife to open tins.

OP make yourself a cup of tea or something, please don't drink that wine. It won't make your shit day any better. Get to bed, things might seem better tomorrow.

Letsrunabath · 14/01/2023 23:27

Cheers!!

lemons44 · 14/01/2023 23:32

Regardless of how bad your day has been please don't drink wine that could have tiny glass shards in! You don't want to go to bed whilst internally bleeding!

queenofthebongo · 14/01/2023 23:33

A hammer? Is the glass broken? Sieve the wine!!!

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2023 23:44

What the fuck? I presume this isn't the first bottle today Grin

purpleme12 · 14/01/2023 23:45

Only had a glass before this
