Invisalign has been the biggest waste of time and money!!

I had one tooth that was slightly overlapped at the front. I went to the dentist where I was told I would wear the trays for around 10 weeks.
This cost £3,000.

After 10 weeks, my tooth was still slightly overlapped. So they said for me to have another tray for another week.

OVER ONE YEAR LATER I am still wearing Invisalign. I've had my teeth filed. More scans etc. Loads more trays.
My tooth is still not straight.

They now want me to have even more trays which is going to cost even more.
I can't believe how crap it's been.

A massive waste of money. I don't want to pay more. I've paid enough already.

Has this happened for anyone else?

My sister is a dentist. She says the Invisilign training is very basic.

Did you have any of your teeth shaved down to make room for your tooth?

peachescariad · 14/01/2023 20:47

DD had Invisalign last year in June ...to straighten a tooth on lower jaw...have to say her experience was amazing. She didn't even have to complete all of the second stage and follow up had been excellent.

She paid £2200 and is very pleased with results.
Maybe it's down to the orthodontists.
Also have 3 friends who have had Invisalign and all success stories.

Barbbarkbark · 14/01/2023 20:52

Is this with an orthodontist or a dentist? If it’s a dentist maybe go and see an orthodontist and get their opinion

Worked really well for me , was really pleased with my results . I do think they should warn people they might need more trays to begin with .

Wallowingwendy · 14/01/2023 21:22

How long were you asked to wear each tray?

It's worked really well for me.

roastednuts123 · 14/01/2023 21:25

Working really well for me. I've nearly finished and it cost about 3.5k. I see a dentist and he's fab and has done it himself.

strawberry2017 · 14/01/2023 21:27

Was there room for your teeth to move to, I had to have teeth removed although I had braces. If there's no space then it's not going to have anywhere to go to.

BigotSpigot · 14/01/2023 21:29

I was told that Invisalign wouldn't work for my (very slight) overlap. I wonder if you should get a second opinion before throwing good money after bad?

hartof · 14/01/2023 21:32

My sister did it last year and her teeth look amazing! She had composite bonding after to sort out her discolouration but just the Invisalign really sorted her teeth out. Did you go to a reputable dentist?

ponderponderpond · 14/01/2023 21:37

They've filed the tooth several times.
It's with my usual dentist. I am so gutted about it. I can't pay anymore. I had each tray in for 10 days to behind with. Then a second lot where they were in for 7 days each. And now I'm on trays that are 2 weeks each.

I actually told him I would prefer the metal braces as I had them when I was 14 and they were amazing but he convinced me to have Invisalign. But it's just been ridiculous. My tooth has barely moved really.

@Kfjsjdbd
Yes I did. Each time I go he shaves the tooth a bit. But it doesn't really look much different.

bathbombaholic · 14/01/2023 21:42

That's not Invisalign that's a bad dentist! You need to complain, get your money back and go somewhere else!

ponderponderpond · 14/01/2023 21:45

@bathbombaholic
I don't understand it though. It seems like he takes the pictures and the scans etc and then the trays are made in America he said. So wouldn't it be the company that make the trays?

Why are you paying more?! They quoted you to straighten your teeth. My DH has them at the minute. They told him 3 months and it's been almost a year - BUT they look brilliant. It's just slower than he was told. He's had 9 months of extra trays and has never had to pay a penny more than quoted.

RedToothBrush · 14/01/2023 21:51

I echo the call about the bad dentist.

I currently have Invisalign. Firstly it sounds like you are paying a lot more than I am and DH has.

DH had really badly overlapping teeth and his now are unrecognisable. Its really worked for him. I initially had doubts about how much of an improvement it would be for me. But it's starting to look better.

I also question how much you are paying. £3000 for just ten weeks is way more than we've paid and seems really off.

Something isn't right here and the discrepancy with money makes me think dodgy dentist rather than a problem with Invisalign itself.

DiDonk · 14/01/2023 21:53

I'd say you've been had op. DD is nearly finished a year of Invisalign, three lots (1600 eur)

The dentist has a computer map of what movement each tray will do based on a scan of her teeth. Follow ups check this movement.

The teeth have moved, rotated and spaced exactly to the model even though she's not worn them Nealy the 22 hours she's supposed to.

bathbombaholic · 14/01/2023 22:19

@ponderponderpond I get what youre saying but I am coming to the end of my Invisalign journey and had a lot of movement needed. The difference is crazy and so noticeable. It doesn't work for all teeth and just giving you extra trays obviously isn't helping.
By now the dentist should have x-rayed the tooth to see why it's not moving. You must be so frustrated and I'm sorry you've had this experience.

ponderponderpond · 15/01/2023 08:47

@legalseagull
At first they said when I needed extra trays that I wouldn't need to pay more. And now they're saying I will need to pay more if I need more trays. I clearly do need more as my tooth isn't straight.

After the first 10 weeks when I went back, the dentist was all like "right that's great, your treatment is all done!"

So I said "if you look at my tooth you can see it's still overlapped".
So he was ready to just sent me on my way.
Now he's saying I'll need to pay more to continue but I'm not willing to pay a penny more. It costs too much as it is.

@DiDonk
Gosh that sounds great. And how I expected mine to be!
It's been nothing like this.
He hasn't shown me anything like that. Just taken pics of my mouth, scanned with a little scanner. Then sends me away with 3 months+ of trays. Then I go back.
But my tooth has moved slightly. You can see it isn't straight. It's only moved a small amount. Each time he just shaves more off the tooth.

Really sorry to hear about your experience, it's always hard to think you're throwing more money at something which hasn't worked!

User198724 · 15/01/2023 09:15

My teeth are considerably straighter and I’m only half way. My dentist had told me that any adjustments needed following treatment are not an additional payment.

BunchHarman · 15/01/2023 09:29

Your dentist sounds bollocks. Invisalign is incredible, but your dentist doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Do you do photos at home? Or does he just do them all?

ponderponderpond · 15/01/2023 10:27

@RedToothBrush
He takes photos from all different angles. Then he uses a scanner thing he puts in my mouth. I've been back several times and he repeats the process. He then takes the attachments off and puts new ones on in different places etc.
