Oven Chip Recommendations

Home made are best but for when you want to be quick, what oven chips do you recommend? DH isn’t keen on the coated ones.

McCain Gastro Chips. Don't put them in a tray with holes without lining it though!

I find most brands and supermarket's oven chips all taste similar. I like the Aldi and Lidl version of the Slimming world chips as they're healthier and not as dry.

They’re all pretty crap really. I’ve found the best tip for making any of them nicer is to get a really deep baking tray, bung some oil in it when it’s empty and whack it in the hot oven for about 10 mins and then stick your chips in and toss them about. They come out much better like that. If unhealthier if that bothers you …!

Following this with interest as I've always been a bit disappointed with shop bought oven chips.

The Aldi Maris piper chunky ones are nice, cook longer than what the instructions say though.

I like the m&s frozen French Fries.

M&S straight cut are my current favourites. Lush with loads of salt and vinegar.

I came on to say about doing them in hot oil, but can see @Xrays got there ahead of me. I also add a bit of seasoning of some kind. I love doing salt and pepper style with a little bit of 5 spice, spring onion, onion, peppers, chillis etc just hot oil, then add the oven chips and extras, and keep tossing them every so often.

Mccain gastro chips. They’re the only oven chips I’ll eat, although we actually cook them in the air fryer.

Albert Bartlett are the only ones I've ever managed get to go crispy in the oven, I always cook them for longer than it says on the packet too. I do them in the air fryer now and it's quicker and they come out better

the Lidl deluxe maris piper ones are really good!

Gastro chips is such an unpleasant sounding name!!

I suppose it's the same as gastro pub but it has only just dawned on me what a revolting word 'gastro' is

I don't like any of them now, they all seem to have a weird coating. I have gone over to M&S skinny fries. I have never liked skinny chips but these are great.

Sainsburys skin on chips. Taste totally different from any other oven chips. Really delicious and cheap!

I like the Aldi skin on fries.

Sainsbury’s crinkle cut oven chips are the favourite in our house. Can’t stand McCain’s.

A few sprays of spray oil helps immensely to crisp up oven chips 😊

Sainsburys Extra Crispy.

Sainsbury's own brand skin-on extra crispy... just discovered these and they are streets ahead of the rest, but all oven chips are better cooked on a crisper not a baking tray. Aldi skin on fries are amazing.
