Home made are best but for when you want to be quick, what oven chips do you recommend? DH isn’t keen on the coated ones.

Morrisons own brand crinkle cut are the best ones, no fancy coating, just chips

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 13/01/2023 20:09

Albert Bartlett classic fries, Home Bargains sell them and they actually go properly crispy and taste amazing in an air fryer.

U1sce · 13/01/2023 20:11

Iceland own brand called something like seriously crispy, in an orange bag. My dh is fussy about chips and these are his favourite, it's one of the only reasons we go to iceland!

Another vote for Aldi skin on fries.
I expect they'll be discontinued shortly though, as is traditional with all aldi products that I love.

Sainsbury’s crinkle cut oven chips are the favourite in our house. Can’t stand McCain’s.

Yup, Sainsbury’s crinkle have the best flavour by far. Cheap too.

If it's not too often (as they are expensive) Asda extra special triple cooked are delicious - fresh, not frozen. Usually with the £12 meal deal stuff.

McCain Home Chips.

I second these.
Only chips I've found which don't smell of off oil whilst cooking.

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/01/2023 20:30

I still do homemade. Two big potatoes, leave the skin on, slice into chunky chips - it only takes a couple of mins (while the oven is warming up). Spray with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt crystals then bung in the oven. Job done! And a million times nicer (and better for you) than shop made oven chips.

AutisticLegoLover · 13/01/2023 20:32

Waitrose big crisp and fluffy ones. Huge things.

thepurplepenguin · 13/01/2023 20:34

Another vote for Sainsburys extra crispy.

Or if you want completely plain, McCains Naked oven chips taste like oven chips used to in the olden days before they started messing around with coatings.

Bootstoots · 13/01/2023 20:37

I came here to say Sainsbury's skin on extra crispy, but I see a few have beat me to it!

McCain Gastro Chips or the Iceland clone of this product

sunglassesonthetable · 13/01/2023 20:42

Lidl skin on fries.

OhHeySis · 13/01/2023 20:44

I hate oven chips. The McCain triple cooked ones are lush though!

CornishGem1975 · 13/01/2023 21:58

@CleopatrasBeautifulNose They are the best!!

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/01/2023 11:37

I have bought the Gastro chips but will try to make my own soon. I like wedges too.

McCain oven chips have an odd smell to them I can't quite place.

My faves are Albert Bartlett or Aunt Bessie's Homestyle chips.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/01/2023 19:25

I like the Albert Bartlett ones. Their red potatoes are really nice too.

what type of potatoes, how long in the oven and how hot please? Thanks

Butteredtoast55 · 14/01/2023 19:32

For fresh, rather than frozen, Sainsburys triple cooked are lovely. We have them as a monthly treat - cook them a bit longer so they are nice and crispy and they're delicious.
