Has anyone else's hayfever started already?

I have tree pollen hayfever that has got really bad since I had (probable) covid in March 2020. My eyes get really itchy, extremely red and swollen, constant sneezing, nose so blocked from swelling I cannot breathe through it at all.

Last year it started up on 1st Feb. A few days ago I thought I had an eye infection as one of my eyes was extremely itchy and red. Got eye drops and made no difference. Now both eyes are really itchy and swollen so I think it must be my hayfever starting.

I have a nasal spray and eye drops prescribed from the GP which are strong and help a lot (too ages to find the right medication) so I'm going to start them today.

Just wondering if anyone else's hayfever is starting even earlier this year?

My eyes and nostrils are beginning to itch, I have birch tree pollen hayfever. I used to start my antihistamines in mid March, but for a couple of years it’s been creeping forward, never as early as this though. If we have a cold snap it might go back?

16yo DS's hasn't yet. We're in Hampshire and it usually starts around Feb half term.

I wondered if the extreme cold we had in December and the recent mild weather has meant tree pollen starting earlier this year.

I was wondering the same thing yesterday - itchy eyes and sneezing for the last few days, but no other cold symptoms.. there's definitely some pollen about, I wondered with the weather suddenly getting warmer when it was so cold if the trees and plants got confused..

RampantIvy · 12/01/2023 07:37

No. It hasn't stopped raining here.

Marmite27 · 12/01/2023 07:40

That’s interesting. I have tree pollen allergies and I’ve also had the Lazarus virus (the one that just keeps being reborn). I’m sneezy and the roof of my mouth is itchy - classic hay fever symptoms for me. I thought it was just the most recent rebirth of the virus.

I’ve taken antihistamines a couple of days this week and it’s helped. Maybe it’s weirdly early hayfever!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2023 07:42

It might be mould allergy.

Meltinthemiddle · 20/02/2023 21:57

My eyes have started itching now and I keep sneezing.

Lindy2 · 20/02/2023 22:02

DH is suffering today. Itchy swollen eyes and a bunged up nose.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/02/2023 22:33

I noticed my eyes were itchy yesterday for the first time this year.

myveryownelectrickitten · 20/02/2023 22:41

Walked home earlier and now just felt the first telltale hayfevery symptoms this evening. In the SE where it’s been quite warm and flowers and trees suddenly out…

Miriam101 · 20/02/2023 22:45

Yes. I've had it for weeks but it's been particularly bad the past week. Tree pollen is the devil for me, and I live near a forest on a tree-lined street..... I also feel like a PP that it's getting earlier and earlier every year- I swear I started soon after Christmas. On the flip side, maybe that means it'll be over sooner?!

Fabvegetablegrower · 20/02/2023 22:54

Yes my eyes are suddenly really itchy and red. I was thinking it was far to early for tree pollen but maybe not.

FloorWipes · 20/02/2023 22:56

Mine has started.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 20/02/2023 23:25

Yes! Skin around my nose is really itchy and sneezing in succession has started 🤧

Benjispruce4 · 20/02/2023 23:28

This morning my eyes felt itchy. My tree pollen allergy usually starts in March/April. Ok now though.

Blueuggboots · 20/02/2023 23:29

My son's always starts around his birthday (18/2) and today, he complained that his nose was itchy.......

Benjispruce4 · 20/02/2023 23:29

Last year I was barely affected.

SockQueen · 20/02/2023 23:30

I was away last week in northern Germany and was fine, have had runny nose and itchy throat since getting back but thought I might have caught a cold from my niece. Now I've got itchy eyes too so I think it might be the hay fever! But I can't see much even in bud, let alone blooming and making pollen!

fretaway · 20/02/2023 23:39

Yes my 2 dc started with symptoms last week and I’ve started getting a runny nose when I go out.
We have a birch tree in our garden and it has started budding.

WhiteFire · 20/02/2023 23:40

Funnily enough my DD (17) mentioned yesterday that she was going to start on the antihistamines as she was experiencing what is her usual hay fever symptoms. I don't have it (her Dad's fault) so I can't offer any comparison. She is usually a bit later though.

Rellywobble · 20/02/2023 23:43

Same here, my eyes have been so itchy all
day today. It fidn’t cross my mind that hayfever might be starting earlier than usual, but tree pollen does affect me now (whereas it didn’t used to).

yodayoga1 · 20/02/2023 23:59

Always starts in second half of Feb for me. Been sneezing like a mofo the last 2 days and nose itching like I want to rip it from my fave. It's begun...

Rebellious23 · 21/02/2023 00:09

I only found out I had it last year! Been on massive doses of antihistamines daily since I was 11 for urticaria
Now I'm on biologic injections, stopped the antihistamines (on a mild day I was on 4 x Zyrtec plus fexofenadine)
Me after coming off them "why the fuck are my eyes itchy?"
Bastard hay fever
