I have quite possibly OD'd on quit lit. It's certainly been a revelation, that's for sure - but it's actually starting to make me feel quite pressurised and anxious now, as to whether I "should" try to give up totally or not. But it's not what I deep down want or feel I can commit to - and that in itself makes me feel shit about myself.

That's one of the reasons I've avoided it.

It's been a long long month. It's cold and depressing. But our livers will thank us!

Stickywhitelovepiss · 24/01/2023 19:27

@freshstart2023 We are all cheering you on x

freshstart2023 · 24/01/2023 19:27

I did buy one quit lit book but haven’t got round to reading it. I might send it back.

I feel as though DJ has really taken it out of me mentally. I’m drained and exhausted and am struggling to cling on.

I feel similarly, but I cannot be sure it the not drinking or a multitude of other factors, not least that Jan is a shit month.

Hang in there. If not now, when?

Veryfishy · 24/01/2023 19:49

Another one here who feels drained and exhausted , I thought it was partly frustration as we’ve had about 5 plumbers / engineers round to quote for a new heating and hot water system , not a single quote in yet ( 3 we’re here before Christmas )
The other reason is because I woke at about 4-15 am to go to the loo , and couldn’t go back to sleep so got up and watched The Crown

Have not lost any weight either ( well , I lost 4 lb the first week of Low Carb Bootcamp but that’s all gone pear shaped now )

DH off to tennis club tomorrow evening which usually means it’s a good excuse for a nice bottle of Sauvi B… not tomorrow night though , oh no
But , maybe a nice cheese plate ….

Greatly · 24/01/2023 19:54

@Veryfishy I'm also doing bootcamp and I've been pretty strict and I've lost about 1lb. Shit isn't it.

pointythings · 24/01/2023 20:01

I think it's impossible to lose weight in January because January is a bitch and it's personal.

That explains everything!!

I think you are 💯 percent right. Or hundy p, as dd would say

Greatly · 24/01/2023 20:10

I'm also going to weight lifting class once a week, no carbs or booze. I should look and feel amazing by now! But I don't. I look old and feel miserable.

Well , now you've said it , it makes complete sense ! 🙀
It’s February soon , hope she’s a bit kinder 💐💖

PermanentTemporary · 24/01/2023 20:19

Tough one tonight. It's too bloody cold. I'd just like to feel different from this, I hardly care how.

Me too.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 24/01/2023 20:39

Tired haggard and old here too.

@freshstart2023 I'd highly recommend The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober. Just maybe don't go to town as much as I did!

freshstart2023 · 24/01/2023 20:40

I think the cold has a lot to do with it. As I can't drink, all I feel like doing of an evening is going to bed. I also seem to have lost my energy and enthusiasm to tidy the house or do other chores. It's a bit miserable.

WaxingGibbon · 24/01/2023 20:42

Evening everyone. I have had the longest, most tiring and stressful day at work today - and I sooo want to relax with a big beautiful glass of chilled white wine. I'm desperate for one. I only have to go into the kitchen and crack it open..

But if I have one, I will hate myself. So I will resist! 💪

freshstart2023 · 24/01/2023 20:43

I probably shouldn't say this, but although I've discovered through DJ that not drinking has a lot of benefits, I don't think I could exist like this for the rest of my life. It just feels a bit flat.

I hear you. I'm in exactly the same boat and would also hate myself if I cracked. It's not worth it, so I won't, especially as tomorrow we'll be in the final week. I'm fed-up and miserable though.

WaxingGibbon · 24/01/2023 20:47

@freshstart2023 I feel the same.
Hang in there though, you have been doing so brilliantly this month. Everyone has.

Are we feeling like this because the end's in sight now? like marathon runners? (Or I mean how I'd be, if I was running a marathon. Which is very unlikely)

Greatly · 24/01/2023 20:48

Yeah this is how I feel. Our house is old and everything needs mending, the windows are draughty, the central heating is crap. My car won't start first time. I look shit, feel bored and to cap it all i was really looking forward to starting a course in March but they emailed today and said they'd overlooked my application and now its full.

freshstart2023 · 24/01/2023 20:53

Sorry to hear that about your course @Greatly - how frustrating. I also feel fed-up, flat and miss that feeling of truly switching off and relaxing with a glass of wine.

Are we feeling like this because the end's in sight now? like marathon runners?

Does that happen to marathon runners? I wonder why seeing the finish line triggers that response in the brain.

Hedjwitch · 24/01/2023 20:54

Hang in there everyone. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

WaxingGibbon · 24/01/2023 21:02

@freshstart2023 no no I don't think it does happen to marathon runners. I was just thinking it would happen to me if I was a marathon runner. Aagh! Sorry please ignore me, I'm making no sense. I'm delirious with sobriety. I'll be quiet for a bit.

Spirini · 24/01/2023 21:05

@Stickywhitelovepiss that's what I think would happen to me if I read quit lit, I think my anxiety would go through the roof!

@freshstart2023 I'm finding it an awful slog too, not so much Monday to Thursday but the weekends are pants.

freshstart2023 · 24/01/2023 21:18

@WaxingGibbon ha - sorry, my fault, I misread your post.

@Spirini I'm hoping this weekend will be easier purely because we'll only have a few more days to go.
