Loving the Valerie, poem and frog.
No benefits here, but that always happens irritatingly.

PermanentTemporary · 22/01/2023 08:15

I love them all but I'm afraid I would vote for @HPLikecraft 's frog because I am blown away by physical skill like that!

Selfesteem22 · 22/01/2023 08:23

I am going for @Stickywhitelovepiss poem because it made me laugh - but all amazing

WaxingGibbon · 22/01/2023 08:38

All entries were equally fabulous and all get a 10 from me.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 22/01/2023 09:08

All are fab!

Just finished Holly Whitaker's Quit Like a Woman. It's taken best part of 2 weeks, as took so many notes from the first third of the book - will be my go to again and again I think. Last two thirds sorely need editing down, and I don't agree with everything she writes, but still up there on my quit lit to read and read again.

MeinKraft · 22/01/2023 09:54

I've loved seeing all the talent entries, couldn't pick a favourite! The haiku really spoke to me - love a haiku!

MeinKraft · 22/01/2023 09:55

freshstart2023 · 22/01/2023 07:53

So day 22 is here and we’ve completed three full weeks.

I can’t believe I’ve come this far. Thanks again to all of you for your support - I would have given up weeks ago without this thread.

I’m planning to have a day at home doing chores today so should find things easier. It’s when I’m out that I really struggle and feel miserable.

I can't believe it! I'm so so glad I didn't crack this weekend. Next weekend maybe won't be so bad because I know it's the last one for a few weeks. Then I will pick it up again for lent.

Been at the inlaws this afternoon , OMG I could so easily have had a glass of wine when we got back , even DH says they’re hard work !
Instead , I’m on the posh clementine tonic mixed with sparkling water in a nice glass

I’m no poet , but I make nice cakes
Heres one for us all to share this evening

Lol I often feel like that after spending time with some of my in laws and DH struggles with them too at times as they can be such hard work. It makes me feel better that I am not the only one who feels this way.

Anyway DJ for me was about relearning habits and that's happening so I am delighted.

OneFrenchEgg · 22/01/2023 10:40

Congrats to the winners of the talent show!
I'm getting back to DJ today, didn't do last night - I'd forgotten about the waking up worrying about what you've said thing, so will definitely be a factor to bear in mind going forward.
Also, the weird dreams - first broken night for ages.

Fuwari · 22/01/2023 11:36

Loved all the talent show entries, well done to all.
I was so so ill yesterday 😭every part of me hurt, my back felt like it was on fire, stabbing pains in my side and my head was really fuzzy. I was only awake to have a drink and take more painkillers, slept for about 18 hours in total. On the plus side, zero desire for wine! Still feel ill today but nowhere near as bad as yesterday.

Cherrymix · 22/01/2023 14:11

Argh! I cracked last night and drank half a bottle of DH's wine. I was doing so well. No reason really - just a long cold boring day and maybe also slightly triggered by dinner party the night before. I'm cross with myself but not defeated - the last 3 weeks are much better than the last 3 months.

I am back on it today.

Love the frog. In fact loved all the talent on show. Have another song in mind already - tune of the Snowman, lyric centering around "my face is not so red" .. I'll work on it for Friday.

Cherrymix · 22/01/2023 14:11

@Fuwari - hope you are feeling a bit better - is it flu or something else?

pointythings · 22/01/2023 14:32

I'm just back from an invigorating couple of hours flinging pointy sticks in the woods with my friends - beautiful crisp sunny day out there (dreadful fog and much colder here at home) and am now having hot squash to warm up.

HPLikecraft · 22/01/2023 15:04

Ah, my DH is taking part in an archery competition today,@pointythings ! Must be a good day for pointy sticks!

Sorry to hear about any slip ups that any of you had; you can carry on with dryness now, with renewed vigour and resolve. Using my position as OP, I have officially wiped your slates clean and absolved you of any guilt and regret. If you've managed to be at all dryer than usual this month the that is still fantastic: it will have taken strength and self discipline.

Well you're all too polite and diplomatic to vote for the talent. A couple of things have one vote so I'll use my casting vote and declare @Stickywhitelovepiss the winner. All entries are fab, though! Well done.
Worryingly, it seems that @Cherrymix is preparing something for another as yet unplanned talent bonanza, so it looks like we're doing it next Saturday, too! Yikes. Well you've all been warned and have plenty of if time to prepare so etching! 😉

OP posts:
HPLikecraft · 22/01/2023 15:05

*prepare something... though an etching would be a pretty cool entry!

OP posts:
pointythings · 22/01/2023 15:19

@HPLikecraft ours was just an impromptu club shoot, no scoring. But cake.
Does your DH do field or target?

HPLikecraft · 22/01/2023 15:33

Target, @pointythings and I think his bow is called a 'recurve'. He's really good at it, always wins medals. Gets him out of my way for 2 hours most days, too!

freshstart2023 · 22/01/2023 15:43

Today has been a good day so far. I finally completed some chores I’ve been meaning to do for ages (spring cleaning and admin) and haven’t thought about alcohol too much at all. I wouldn’t mind a glass of red tonight in my newly immaculate lounge, but it’s only a slight urge and very manageable.

pointythings · 22/01/2023 15:59

@HPLikecraft I shoot recurve too, but field - which is basically simulated hunting using foam models of animals. I couldn't be doing with target, it's too serious.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 22/01/2023 17:05

Yay! Am honoured and touched ;)

Cheguevarahamster · 22/01/2023 18:44

Hope everyone is doing OK. Loved the talent show last night. Great poems and I can't get Valerie out of my head! Congrats to @Stickywhitelovepiss .

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

My DH had glass of wine with Sunday roast today. I tried the mcguigan zero alcohol while wine. It was terrible 😅. Chucked it down the sink. Going to drink my fever tree blood orange instead.

freshstart2023 · 22/01/2023 18:52

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

Same here - it’s a great feeling.

Hedjwitch · 22/01/2023 19:10

Really blown it this weekend, which is disappointing. However will be back on it for the home run. If I stay dry from now to the end of January I will be dry for 28 days out of 31 so will be happy with that.

freshstart2023 · 22/01/2023 19:28

I just downloaded the NHS drinking app to keep track of my drinking going forward, but it won’t let me enter any drink-free days beyond Monday last week. Which means my stats are missing the first eight days of January. I don’t know why they don’t let you enter data for however far back you want to go. Very annoying.

FlyingPandas · 22/01/2023 19:33

Loved all the talent last night. Well done @Stickywhitelovepiss for being the official winner!

I've taken DS1 back to uni today, so am feeling a bit low - it's been lovely to have him home. He's happy enough to go back but it'll take a few days to adjust to him not being around in the house.

Luckily - well not really, but you lot will know what I mean - I am still not feeling great so have literally no desire for wine. I was worried that I would crave some this evening so am relieved in a funny sort of way that I don't feel well enough to drink.

Keep going everyone...we're on the home strait now!
