DH; 15 green tea boxes, 12 cat-food boxes, 8 coffee flavour options... Argh!

My DH is a great bloke; however, he has this 'thing' about certain consumables. Thus we have an entire cupboard of every conceivable type of green tea bag known to man; the cat has around 12 different varieties of food pouches (boxes of each, not individual!); there are dozens of coffee varieties; every imaginable type of canned and bottled craft beer; even bird food- etc etc- but the reality is he sort of stick to one brand or type of everything.

Anyone else's partner like this??! He can spend 15 minutes in the cat food aisle in Asda, carefully assessing which brand or variety to buy now ....

I would mind less if we had a bigger kitchen!

Argh.

Oh, I forgot - insulated mugs. We have around 12. There are two of us. He does online surveys as the reward is another insulated mug.... And water bottles (plastic refillable ones and metal ones). He comes back from conferences with about 6 each time (advertising freebies). We have dozens. And biros. Hundreds of them. They'd dry up before we used them unless I take handfuls to work! Generic charger cables? 10s and 10s of them.

He is funny!😁

Sounds like he'd be a blast at parties 🎉

D20 · 10/01/2023 17:16

I’m like this 😬

GoodVibesHere · 10/01/2023 17:29

Yep my DH does this. We have loads of tinned chopped tomatoes, he won't stop buying them!

pinneddownbytabbies · 10/01/2023 17:35

My DH is randomly obsessed with buying Dreamies, paracetamol and AA batteries. What the cashier in Wilko thinks when he buys those three together every week I have no idea.

The cat food issue is actually not a DH problem but a cat problem. Most owners have lots of different flavours and brands, and some even resort to giving them human food of chicken and white fish...

Yes, we do! On account of buying a few boxes of his 'favourite' food one week, only to find he won't go near it a couple of weeks later. It'll quite often come back into favour after a suitable gap, though!

im like this with zoflora and fabulousa ..

BamBamBilla · 10/01/2023 18:02

I'm with your DH on the tea except I have way more than 15. More like 30.

gogohmm · 10/01/2023 18:04

Dsd has a very extensive tea collection, as for me, I hoard food more generally

AlisonDonut · 10/01/2023 18:05

If this happens in our house we go on a 'no more x' mission til they are all used up.

picklemewalnuts · 10/01/2023 18:07

Yep. We can end up with over a year's supply of baked beans or laundry powder. Drives me potty. I like organises cupboards, which is hard with a compulsive shopper.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/01/2023 18:08

Oh god - so much stuff. My other half is a runner and every race he enters seems to provide a free running top - we are reaching a running top event horizon in the cupboard where we keep sports kit.

There is also all the free stuff you get at the end of a race - plastic water bottles, strange vitamins and health supplements, little deodorants, cereal bars. He never really uses them but keeps them "because they might be useful". 😩

Davros · 10/01/2023 18:14

DH can't resist jars of horseradish sauce and little tins of Ras el Hanout. I found 9 of the latter once

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 10/01/2023 18:29

Oh god, I think this is me. I can’t stop buying tinned tomatoes. And pasta. And tins of tuna. And AAA and AA batteries. Just in case. And we have a garage stuffed with bog roll.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 10/01/2023 18:30

@Davros I used to have a sizeable ras el hanout collection but have mended my ways and mostly focus my energies on massive pots of mixed herbs.

Davros · 10/01/2023 18:32

DH claims that you need fresh dried herbs and spices every time! What's the point of drying them then? It's really because he can't be bothered to check the cupboard before he sails out to the shops

ElleBelleLou · 10/01/2023 18:35

I'm like this! I have diagnosed OCD and definitely struggle with hoarding which is a big part of it - if I like something, I HAVE To have every single variety of it and multiples so I can never ever run out. Does that sound familiar at all, could he have OCD in that sense? x

SummerHouse · 10/01/2023 18:35

In the run up to Christmas I repeatedly bought gravy granules with no memory of previous purchases. I ended up with about five!

Fordian · 10/01/2023 19:08

You're all making me better! Thanks 😂

Bags for life. The idea that you have one bag for life and use it for life eludes him. We’ve got so many bags for life our understairs cupboard is immortal.

We do have a fairly substantially sized pantry cupboard with room to stock up but I see the space as a bonus; DP sees it as “challenge accepted”: how many bulk buys of things we rarely eat can I fit in here?! Even the most dedicated disaster prepper doesn’t need 17 bottles of hot sauce but if they do, ransack our house.

He also has 47 pairs of socks. I counted them, furiously, the other day.

dotdotdotdash · 10/01/2023 19:14

We had four times as much marzipan as needed and ten chocolate oranges after the Christmas shop

dotdotdotdash · 10/01/2023 19:15

I am getting through them though

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/01/2023 19:16

I am the same with anything cat consumable based and have several shelves given over to cat treats/toys/food/litter etc, also diy tools - I cannot resist buying shiny new screwdrivers despite only using one! Dh had a spell of buying batteries and bags for life in every conceivable size for a year or two.

This seems slightly different 😂😂😂
