DH; 15 green tea boxes, 12 cat-food boxes, 8 coffee flavour options... Argh!

My DH is a great bloke; however, he has this 'thing' about certain consumables. Thus we have an entire cupboard of every conceivable type of green tea bag known to man; the cat has around 12 different varieties of food pouches (boxes of each, not individual!); there are dozens of coffee varieties; every imaginable type of canned and bottled craft beer; even bird food- etc etc- but the reality is he sort of stick to one brand or type of everything.

Anyone else's partner like this??! He can spend 15 minutes in the cat food aisle in Asda, carefully assessing which brand or variety to buy now ....

I would mind less if we had a bigger kitchen!

Argh.

We had four times as much marzipan as needed and ten chocolate oranges after the Christmas shop

I'm coming to your house.

vanessabikes · 11/01/2023 06:35

Me (with tea) and spices. I just seem to collect them.... I have my own tea cupboard now.

WonderingWanda · 11/01/2023 07:00

That does sound excessive. What would he do if you gave some of it to a food bank?

SantaBakula · 11/01/2023 07:18

Ha ha I dont normally go over the top but just before Christmas I was looking on a auction site and found coffee , both ground and beans .
There were several lots so I bid on a couple in the hope of winning one .
I won two , I now have around 10kg of coffee of alsorts of different types .
it will take me a little while to get though that lot !

Coffeecreme · 11/01/2023 07:21

my dd was jealous of my hoard of tins
i use and replace regularly.
i was jealous of a woman buying 12 tins of tomatoes in lidl recently

MyMachineAndMe · 11/01/2023 07:30

We have a sauce cupboard because dh has a thing for different types of chilli sauces, BBQ sauces and glazes, posh ketchup and brown sauces etc. Similarly, he has a sauce shelf in the fridge. Drives me mad.

I'm almost as bad with types of tea though.

Davros · 11/01/2023 09:24

Don't let him have fridge space for any sauces that are "preserves", they don't need refrigerating. The clue is in the name!

Fordian · 11/01/2023 21:36

Yes! Yes! We have a 'sauce shelf' in the fridge. From which I haul mouldy bottles 2 times it so a year.

Tbf (I am, really!), DH is Australian where more has to be refrigerated. And, if you check many sauce bottles, nowadays, they'll tell you to store them in the fridge 'once opened'.

Like everyday clothes now say 'hand wash only'. Yeah, right.

I think he sounds lovely.

as I’m a bit like that too (except for the mugs and pen collecting), I take ages to choose a lettuce for example Grin

I also have loads of sauces, craft beers, chutneys, it drives my DH mad too. Your cat sounds very lucky to have all that choice!

Fordian · 11/01/2023 23:48

My bloody cat is learning how to turn his nose up on everything, more to the point, as 'better' might be forthcoming if he holds it long enough! 🙄

My cats food has changed the packaging. Used to be pouches but is now tins, same food
Yesterday he would only eat the pouch one, today he will only eat the tin
Hmm
I reminded him he spent 5 years on the streets eating whatever he could get and he flounced off

Davros · 11/01/2023 23:54

You don't need to though if they are preserved like jams or pickles. But you must only use a clean utensil each time you scoop any out, not plunge your just licked knife in and out of the jar Blush

dolor · 12/01/2023 00:07

This would do my head in, it's so wasteful unless he actually does use all of those things eventually.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 12/01/2023 00:16

My dad bless him

He's has literally hundreds of re useable bags but he rolls them
Up so they are tiny little pellets and puts rubber bands around them.

No joke he has them in every orifice in both of his cars, his work bag,the kitchen drawer, upstairs drawer, utility room drawer etc.

Drives my mum nuts DaffodilGrin

If I've borrowed his car and used one of the bags if I've not had enough when shopping and forget to tell him he bloody knows because my mum will txt and ask if I've had a bag from the car Shock

Honper · 12/01/2023 00:29

My dad became obsessed with carrier bags when he retired. They are all methodically sorted and stored according to size. A carrier bag for every type of eventuality. He's like a shit Kardashian.

Mind, I have a tea cupboard.

Mumma · 12/01/2023 00:49

We have a vast selection of various hot sauces and spicy instant noodles in our house. I eat neither 🤣

Daffodilsandtuplips · 12/01/2023 00:50

Baked bean with sausages, 10 of. Tinned curry 6 of. Helmans Tomato sauce, 6 of. Sweet chilli sauce, 6 of.
I’ve weaned him off the tinned mushy peas thank God, but the space is filled with the 10 tins of baked beans with sausages.
Coats and jackets, he has a wardrobe full of nice stylish coats but sticks to the same two, one of which is a black ex army jacket with thick lining. I think its from the Russian Steppes or somewhere, it has a name patch on one shoulder, it sounds Russian. I hate it, he’s a tall bloke, when he’s wearing it he is like a walking padded blackboard, if he’s walking in front of me I can’t see round him, he blocks out the light.
The other one isn’t so bad, it’s black, lighter weight and reasonable smart.
Don’t get me started on the shoes.

My dad has retired and his is food prices
I mean it's handy, he can tell you exactly where the cheapest butter is, and which petrol station is currently cheapest. It's like having a walking my supermarket website
He also remembers I love the Aldi protein mousse so buys it every time he sees it and tells me the price

mathanxiety · 12/01/2023 01:39

I have a stockpile of tea too. To be fair, I got huge amounts of gorgeous flavoured teas as Christmas gifts from lovely friends (two different parties) two Christmases in a row. I do buy a certain flavour of green tea if it's ever on sale because I'm afraid it will be discontinued and I love it. I have my favorite black tea stockpile as well, again as a hedge against discontinuation. I'm making my way through all of these teas.

I also have a stockpile of pasta, and I buy rice in 10lb bags. Also a pile of cans of crushed tomatoes and various beans both dried and canned. I've lived through two polar vortexes and one seriously restrictive covid lockdown and I know I won't have to go begging food from my neighbours if we have an emergency again. By the same token, if my neighbours are in need I'll happily supply them. Oh and I never run low on TP.

I'm not a pepper, but I want to be prepared, iyswim. It's more of a boy scout approach.

Firstly, which survey site and secondly - never take him to Costco.
