Man singing/shouting into microphone at 3am

He's done it a few times but not every night and always 2/3/4 AM but never a predictable schedule :(

But tonight kids and I were woken up again at 3am by a man walking up and down the street outside with a microphone singing (sounds like some kind of religious prayer) and then periodically breaking it off and SCREAMING into the microphone. Terrifying to be woken up by.

It only lasts about 20min/half an hour so too short for police to be able to show up, but it means everyone in the house is up at 3 and can't get back to sleep (plus the screaming really freaks the kids - and me - out).

We live in a small flat so can hear it from every room. I saw other neighbours turning their lights on and looking outside, but I don't know them.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Video and open a case with 101, video every time and send in. They’ll hopefully have enough complaints to have someone in the area one night to do something about it.

georgarina · 05/01/2023 06:13

Thanks I'll do that next time

Phone the police every time he does it

georgarina · 05/01/2023 07:02

He came back in a black car with a blacked out numberplate being driven by another man in a suit and sunglasses and started singing again. Weirdest thing ever. I took a video and logged it with 101

Well that's VERY odd

KatherineJaneway · 05/01/2023 07:20

Go onto your local Facebook group or Next Door. Maybe others have reported him, maybe there is neighbourhood watch.

PAFMO · 05/01/2023 07:25

Aren't the other people in the area noticing anything?

watchfulwishes · 05/01/2023 07:26

I would also.ake the effort to chat to my neighbours about this. A coordinated approach could help.

Pinkmagic1 · 05/01/2023 07:27

Very strange. I take he is not local if he is turning up in a car? Has anyone confronted him whilst he is doing it?

slamwich · 05/01/2023 07:27

I would imagine he's stalking/harassing someone in particular in your street

barbrahunter · 05/01/2023 07:28

I wonder if he is part of some weird religious group? Or MH health problems, but odd if there's another one of them facilitating him? And what's with the blacked-out number plates?

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/01/2023 07:34

And what's with the blacked-out number plates?

Won't be able to identify the registered keeper.

You can bet when they drive out of the street, the number plates are put back to normal, so they won't get pulled.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 05/01/2023 07:45

Buy a megaphone and scream at him the next time. Wtf.

So last night did he do it twice in one night? That's SO not on!

Tamarindtree · 05/01/2023 08:09

Is the singing in a foreign language?

Not that it matters to you as it’s just awful noise at an unsociable time but if it’s foreign maybe you could find out if it is a religious thing and contact the relevant religious body/temple/mosque etc.

Tamarindtree · 05/01/2023 08:11

What I mean is if it’s similar to this you could contact any mosque that is near you -

I agree with this.

Tamarindtree · 05/01/2023 08:14

Or this -

The Fajr prayer (Arabic: صلاة الفجر ṣalāt al-fajr, "dawn prayer") is one of the five mandatory salah (Islamic prayer), to be performed anytime starting from the moment of dawn, but not after sunrise.

YES this is what it is. With added shouting.

I had a feeling it would be that.

Thats why the number plate is covered as they aren’t supposed to be doing it but I have seen Facebook posts from lots of different areas where this is happening.

Contact your MP.

Sleep is so precious in this house this would be enough to have me in tears of frustration and have me absolutely raging.

Are people allowed to do this even if it is religious in a residential (presumably multi-faith?) area?

Tamarindtree · 05/01/2023 08:33

At first it was just for Ramadan but many want it continued -

There are restrictions but they get away with it as the number plate is covered and once the police arrive they have all already gone.

That’s if the police arrive as they are careful not to get involved and accused of hate crimes/discrimination etc.

I notice in the article says if it carries on it will be for afternoon prayer. That time of the morning OP is experiencing is just awful
