Why are there no eggs in Tesco?!

No standard type eggs available to order on online shop for the last 3 weeks. Only super expensive brand.

Appreciate there's supply issues with bird flu etc, but there seems to be an abundance in Sainsbury’s, Co-op etc.

Is it the same everywhere?

None in Asda today either.

Mummysatthebodyshop · 03/01/2023 20:24

None in Aldi today either.

Try smaller shop like tesco express.

wonderstuff · 03/01/2023 20:29

The supermarkets haven’t been paying enough for farmers to make profit on eggs,
so lots of farmers are not replenishing their hens and this has led to an entirely predictable shortage.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 03/01/2023 20:29

Due to bird flu eggs are very hit and miss at the moment.

I live in the country near two egg farms.
One has shit loads of eggs.
The other has shut.

Maybe next week they will both be shut.

Cuwins · 03/01/2023 20:29

You have been lucky if your seeing lots in other shops. Over the last month I have seen empty or nearly empty egg shelves in Lidl, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and co-op.

Yes, as well as the added complications with bird flu!

Always4Brenner · 03/01/2023 20:30

Tesco express had lots of eggs lovely big ones I brought 10.

motleymop · 03/01/2023 20:30

Isn't it because of avian flu atm.

gogohmm · 03/01/2023 20:30

Bought eggs in lidl every time I try, I think it's regional

KnottyKnitting · 03/01/2023 20:31

Our local farm shop had loads when I couldn't get any on my Tesco order last week.

Then what is it?

EVHead · 03/01/2023 20:31

I went to get some and all they had was six boxes of 12 organic mixed-size, or a few trays of barn eggs. I’ve never seen empty shelves like that!

MyMachineAndMe · 03/01/2023 20:32

Almost none in Co-Op yesterday with a sign saying there was a shortage. It didn't say why though.

I think you misread my post - understandable as it was badly written!

ShirleyPhallus · 03/01/2023 20:33

We’ve had them all the time with our Tesco delivery so presumably regional?

Badly written, badly read. Wink

Avian flu is a huge deal around here.

Egg farms with 100,000s of birds are having to cull.

BrokenWing · 03/01/2023 20:34

I got 12 eggs in my tesco delivery today. It has been bit and miss for a few weeks, but one driver did say more likely to get barn eggs if ordered.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2023 20:35

None in co-op yesterday and none in Aldi tonight

IntentionalError · 03/01/2023 20:36

I bought eggs in Lidl today. There weren’t huge quantities, but they had stock so obviously I bought the lot and stashed them in my garage, next to the loo roll.

😉

AuditAngel · 03/01/2023 20:36

I had to pay £4.40 a dozen this week. I haven’t been able to order online, but can normally get something in store

ifonly4 · 03/01/2023 20:39

There's been limited supplies in Lidl, Tescos and Co-op recently - due to Bird Flu and breeders cutting back on chickens due to costs. Currently aren't any in Tesco or Co-op here, but been lucky enough to get last two lots from Lidl.

CeriB82 · 03/01/2023 20:39

My eggs come from a neighbour. But i have seen eggs in supermarkets too. No issues here

Crimsonripple · 03/01/2023 20:41

Yes lion stamped eggs are so hard to find. Being pregnant I won't risk free range without the stamp.
