Why are there no eggs in Tesco?!

No standard type eggs available to order on online shop for the last 3 weeks. Only super expensive brand.

Appreciate there's supply issues with bird flu etc, but there seems to be an abundance in Sainsbury’s, Co-op etc.

Is it the same everywhere?

Partly bird flu as we really need to start vaccinating chickens but apparently there’s no plan for that at the moment and rising production costs.
hens lay commercially for about 13 months, then the sheds are cleaned out and a new batch arrives. Chickens lay eggs when the days are long so in winter they need lights to ensure they lay daily. Energy is expensive, feed is expensive, and there’s the risk of bird flu so many producers simply are not replacing the hens at the end of the 13 month laying cycle. Some will restock in spring when the risk of bird flu has decreased and less energy is needed others just won’t bother as there’s no point in doing all that work for no profit.

I got 12 delivered from Asda today. They didn't have any last week though

Bird flu isn't the issue, the supermarkets don't want to pay what the farmers are asking for

I was making cakes for Christmas so bought two boxes of eggs and sunflower oil from Morrisons was told I couldn't buy all three due to restrictions

This is the issue. Our local organic free range egg farm is furious about it. They have no shortage of eggs but Tesco have stopped purchasing from them because they don’t want to pay what it costs to produce the eggs. I buy from several different farm shops and there are plenty of eggs at all of them.
