Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 10:21

Any mc or umc trends emerging now that lockdowns are over?
2022 trends seemed to be
-cold water swimming with the ubiquitous dryrobe
-camping & glamping with feral kids "returning to the wild"!
-state school
-11+
-tiled hallways

  • mc & umc families could travel again so summer hol in Italy or France, skiing half term in French Alps
-lots of UK breaks in Salcombe, Rock, Norfolk -Joules /Fatface replacing Boden 2023???

What makes these things new for 2023? Plenty of families were skiing last year because there were no restrictions on foreign travel. Same with wild swimming etc.

Or is this another general "what do MC/UMC people do" thread?

RambamThankyouMam · 03/01/2023 11:53
Confused
AreOttersJustWetCats · 03/01/2023 11:53

Just reread and you've actually said 2022 trends. But skiing still isn't a trend - the well off MC have always done it.

AreOttersJustWetCats · 03/01/2023 11:55

Also, Joules obviously wasn't much of a trend given that they've gone into administration 😂

SavouryFlavour · 03/01/2023 11:57

Surely the whole point of being UMC is that one doesn't follow 'trends', one just does what one has always done, because it is the done thing?

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 13:13

@SavouryFlavour I would say that they & the mc set the trends & it trickles down. For example dryrobes were a real mc marker however they are now available in Primark for 30 quid..

OP posts:
AreOttersJustWetCats · 03/01/2023 13:36

Except they're not in Primark, are they? A cheaper version is available in Primark. Dryrobes remain expensive.

And no, MC and UMC do not fucking well set the trends for everybody else. 🙄 Just because there are now cheaper versions of Dryrobes available that does not mean everybody is desperately trying to ape the MC. I've never seen WC families kitted out in knock-off Boden.

AriettyHomily · 03/01/2023 13:37

What a horrible thread. Do you want to LC and ULC?

AreOttersJustWetCats · 03/01/2023 13:38

By your logic, the WC will all be taking up skiing in February and visiting the Alps in summer because MC are setting the trend by doing so. Pssht.

purpleflies · 03/01/2023 13:41

I don't agree with the trickle down effect. Wild swimming is class connected?

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 14:12

Well there isn't a trickle up effect! Anyone who has a basic knowledge of marketing knows that things start at celebrity or "wealthy" level & then eventually become popular among the masses. The same with Farrow & Ball paint..

It seems to be since lockdown.. Before that it absolutely wasn't in anyway "posh"!

Celebrity/wealthy =/= middle class

NottanOtter · 03/01/2023 14:51

'Dry robes' seem quite popular with the youths at my gym, but I'd say it's because they see rugby/football players wearing similar garments on the sidelines of televised matches, rather than Rebecca and Charlotte popping into the local pond for a dip.

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 15:11

There's a few mums in dc's school who wear them on the schoolrun on the way to their swim🙄

OP posts:
AreOttersJustWetCats · 03/01/2023 15:14

And?

NottanOtter · 03/01/2023 15:49

OK, then. I predict the new MC/UMC trends to hit the high street will be

sheepskin hats
lacrosse
'doing' the Isles for holidays (of Man, of Wight, of Scilly, etc)
family bagpipe sessions
cheese-making
spats

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 15:56

@NottanOtter I think you many be onto something with the "Isle" holidays.. Cornwall & Norfolk were very "in" last year!

What are these when they’re at home?

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 19:55

@piglet81 it's an espresso with milk!

LexMitior · 03/01/2023 20:01

If you are real it's cortado.

This thread is otherwise absurd.

Nurserymumm · 03/01/2023 20:31

@LexMitior shows how much I know, obviously didn't know the markers last year!
