Milk Tray - horrible taste

Been looking forward to opening a box of Milk Tray I was given by DM at Christmas.

I know Cadburys is nowhere near as good as it used to be - but these are AWFUL. They taste like the smell of burning rubber. Very chemical and bitter.

Well within expiry date but they have gone in the bin after only 3 chocolates.

Looking at recent reviews it appears that this horrible taste is now a thing with Milk Tray.

What a shame. Will open the Ferrero Rocher instead.

Most chocolate is disappointing now. Palm oil has ruined it. I had some Hotel Chocolate for Christmas and it tasted of cheese. Yuck.

Pleatsplease · 02/01/2023 16:27

They are gross. They actually taste like someone has added something chemically. I wondered if the box had been tampered with as I won some in a raffle!

AuntieJoyce · 02/01/2023 16:27

My son said exactly the same thing about a box of milk tray he got for Christmas. He thought they were out of date but they probably weren’t

Cadburys chocolate is crap now that the recipe was changed when it was bought out.

Roses chocolates are disgusting now. I dont understand why Kraft didnt use the original Cadburys recipe, unless they wanted too much money for it?

www.edp24.co.uk/news/national/uk-today/23204610.cadbury-milk-tray-removed-shops-taste-concerns/

there have been issues with some Milk Tray chocolates.

Velda · 02/01/2023 16:31

Milk Tray taste like wax now. Roses and Quality Street too. And most of the cheap chocolate in fact. If you’re not paying at least £2 for 100g then it’s probably going to be horrible chocolate.

MaryJean87 · 02/01/2023 16:35

Yes they have been horrible for a few years now, Dairy Box are awful too. I'm a chocoholic but even I don't enjoy those.

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 16:42

Chocolate tastes like grease nowadays.

OffToThatPlace · 02/01/2023 16:42

I can still taste them in my mouth and my tongue feels mildly burnt. Yuk. Will go and clean my mouth out.

Do you remember when you coukd getilk tray on.a bar? Prob 46 years ago. Still remember the excitement of receiving one for helping in primary school library🤣

BradfordGirl · 02/01/2023 16:53

ALDI still sells chocolate without palm oil that is fairly cheap.

JanuaryBluehoo · 02/01/2023 16:55

Aldi or independent like Audrey Brighton/used to supply fortnums...may still do or Kendrick...lake District.

There is a good thread on Christmas about good brand's.
I'm at an age where Id rather have a few nice ones.

DelilahBucket · 02/01/2023 16:56

We got some for Christmas and the smell of mum's house had permeated the packaging and chocolates and they tasted of washing powder. We actually spat out what we had started to eat and the box went in the bin. I wonder if this is the problem for others rather than something from the manufacturing process.

Aldi Moser Roth chocolate is the best.

Aldi Moser Roth chocolate is the best.

I had a box of Moser Roth chocolates for Christmas from my mum, but they weren't any good - Thorntons/Hotel Chocolate type standard. Maybe the bars are better.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 02/01/2023 17:06

Such a shame. We used to hang Quality Street on our tree as kids but I can’t stand them now. Was also very disappointed with Milk Tray, Dairy Box etc.

gogohmm · 02/01/2023 17:07

The only decent economically priced chocolate is from Aldi and Lidl. They beat the branded stuff hands down

NancyPickford · 02/01/2023 17:07

It's just not been the same since Kraft bought Cadbury.

vinoandbrie · 02/01/2023 17:15

It is mad how they can put this stuff out there as ‘chocolate’. It tastes actively horrible!

vinoandbrie · 02/01/2023 17:16

And it never used to - I always loved a box of milk tray!!!

BCBird · 02/01/2023 17:22

The lady doesn't love Milk Tray anymore🙄

whatisforteamum · 02/01/2023 17:26

Absolute best chocolate I had this yr was a small lindt choc reindeer.
Yes milk tray was removed because it tasted of chemicals.my dd sent me the link as dh always gave me milk tray before I told him to get something else.🤣

3girlsmama · 02/01/2023 17:29

Some boxes of Milk tray we're recalled recently due to a manufacturing issue impacting taste. Google info for box date/sizes affected.

ExactlyasIsaid · 02/01/2023 17:36

As other have said - there were issues with milk tray recently.
Aside from the usual shit taste there was an issue and they were recalled

postcardpuffin · 02/01/2023 17:36

They all put palm oil in to make it cheaper. Sone Lindt is palm oil free but some of it isn’t- check the ingredients. Cadbury’s is beyond disgusting these days! Such a shame.
