Game changer morning routine

Since covid I’ve been working from home and have become really lazy. I get up and sit around in my pjs til mid/ late morning then shower and it basically takes me til lunchtime to get dressed. This is on work days and non work days. During the cold weather a few weeks ago I started showering in the evening. Such a game changer I now do this every day. Getting dressed as soon as I wake up has been a revelation. I can walk the dog or pop to shops as early as I like now. It must seem so obvious to many of you but on work days and days off I realise I have been wasting the entire morning for years. Yesterday I’d been to the shops, walked the dog and made bread by 10am. In my pjs I would’ve still been sitting in front of the tv drinking coffee procrastinating over showering. I’ve now moved my hair straighteners downstairs too so have hair and make up stuff in utility room which again has really helped my get ready to face the day earlier. Any other tips like this?

See, I can't do that. I have very curly hair that can only be sorted by daily morning rinsing and conditioning; after a night in bed I look like the business end of a broomstick.

But nothing stopping either of us from showering whenever; the total time it takes doesn't change. How do you deal with wet hair at night or do you constantly blow dry it?

What are your work hours? Is it OK to just do nothing until lunchtime?

Bellavida99 · 31/12/2022 10:34

I work all morning but I’m just in my pjs. If I have a morning call I just put a hoodie on over my pjs and brush my hair. I occasionally have site visits or go into the office- obviously then I get ready and out of the house early!

Nah, I don't feel 'alive' until I have had my morning shower, need that water pounding on my head. I feel groggy all day if I don't.
Glad it is working for you though!

Leftoverpizzaforbreakfast · 31/12/2022 10:40

I would love to do this and life is easier if I shower and wash my hair at night BUT I have been sooooo sweaty at night recently (sorry!) that it would be criminal of me to go anywhere without a shower in the morning sadly.

LemonDrizzles · 31/12/2022 10:49

I agree. I switched to night showers - a game changer. + I don't feel do tired later on.

VladsPants · 31/12/2022 10:53

It sounds good but I’m so stinky and sweaty in the mornings I can’t contemplate not having a shower ☹️

Dogsgottabone · 31/12/2022 10:55

When I worked in London and took the tube every day, I could tell who had showered that morning and who had showered the night before.

If you don't shower you smell of bed all day IMO.

Smartstuffed · 31/12/2022 10:56

Making sure I have all the things I'm going to wear the next day ready. Saves faffing about rootling around.

devildeepbluesea · 31/12/2022 10:57

I’m another one who absolutely must shower in the morning - but tbf that’s always after walking the dog and probably exercising too. I just get up and throw my gym kit on, and go out with the mutt.

Willmafrockfit · 31/12/2022 10:58

i would have bed hair
it needs washing
i would also need a wash otherwise i would feel unclean

No you couldn't.

OP it sounds like you procrastinating round showering. I love getting in the shower, sadly I procrastinate the rest of the day instead!

Where did OP say she did nothing all morning?

The judgment and spite in here, fuck me.

Margo34 · 31/12/2022 11:02

I used to sit about in pjs until midday....when I was a teen or in early 20s.

Wouldn't dream of doing that now!l, what a waste of the day!

My nan used to get up washed and dressed by 530am every day "... because you never know when someone might knock on the door once the sun's up."

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 31/12/2022 11:07

I shower after work too.

But I'm a dog walker and also horse ride so a morning shower seems a bit pointless to me Grin

2reefsin30knots · 31/12/2022 11:08

I get up and sit around in my pjs til mid/ late morning then shower

I interpreted 'sitting around' as not doing anything.

I regularly have to have meetings with people in a team who are working from home. Drives me nuts when they are lounging on their sofa with a hoodie on and their dog laid on their lap. This is a massively stretched service which has serious weaknesses according to Ofsted.

I'm sure there are some people who work very professionally and efficiently from home but it is not universally the case. Persoanally, I don't think sitting around in PJs until lunchtime is professional.

If you work alone, from home, why does it matter what you're wearing or what you look like?

I often do the home-based part of my business in my pajamas 🤷🏻‍♀️

Crazyinlove123 · 31/12/2022 11:57

I work in pjs and just put a hoody on for calls. Sometimes I’ll put joggers on but I’m hardly going to sit at home all day fully dressed as if I was going to the office

Happycow · 31/12/2022 12:13

I'm with you OP!

Since i had DS 7 years ago ive been an evening showerer (so as to wake him when i got up early for work). But now i carry on becuase like you, it means i can have a quick wash in the morning and im up and ready to go straight away! Game changer for me.

(Dont always manage it at the weekend, but will mean it seems to take forever to get out of the house in the morning!)

Windtunnel · 31/12/2022 13:41

Getting a super healthy smoothie mixture out of freezer before I go to bed so all I have to do is blend it next morning means I have had something great to eat that day no matter what.

Cantthinkofabettername · 31/12/2022 13:51

@Windtunnel this definitely - although I leave the frozen fruit in the freezer until the morning so it’s nice and cold and I don’t have to faff with making ice!
Also getting coffee cups prepped the night before so it’s switch the kettle on and done. My DH works from home a couple of days a week so I put his coffee in his insulated cup so it’s there and done for then he gets up (after I leave for work).
I have to shower in the morning but only takes a few mins.

Unless you surveyed people to ask when they last showered you have no idea when the people on the tube last showered. You could tell who smelt clean and who did not and you assumed that the clean people showered in the morning and the unclean people didn’t, but did you actually have any evidence to back up your assumptions regarding when people showered? Most people don’t announce when they last showered to strangers on the tube!
