Oddly enough, I was thinking about her just yesterday. I knew little about her, except for her rather insightful remark about the word 'fuck' as used on the Today programme by one or two of Bill Grundy's guests. She was amazed that some people could be so uptight about a word that was used almost constantly. I'm not quoting but she said something similar. She had a point.

No doubt her career as a fashion designer will be the source of more informed tribute.

I just posted on S&B. I'm so shocked and saddened. She was an awesome woman. I loved how she designed for the female shape. I had a VW wedding dress and never felt more utterly fabulous. I not only looked my best but was also super comfortable

I'm sorry to that, she was an icon of fashion.

She was my fashion icon!

I was not a lover of her clothes but she's a British icon. Sad news and strange that 81 seems too young to die these days.

A true icon of fashion. Very sad and odd that I am sat here thinking 81 doesn’t seem that old, it obviously is a pretty good age!😵‍💫

I seem to remember my late Mum was something of an admirer of DVW, if not an outright fan🙂.

The word Icon is thrown about too much but Viv truely was one.

All I know of her is that she got a very poor press in Private Eye for many years, on account of the large gap between her publically stated political values, and her actual behaviour / business practices.

A late colleague who lectured in fashion was a fanatical collector of Westwood. In or out of fashion she sought it out and had it altered by a tailor to fit. She became an authority on Westwood clothes and the collection she amassed gained in value. Westw good went a long way from Tinwistle near Glossop to the heights of fashion and a serious brand

Oh no. She made some wonderful clothes.

I’m so sad, she was one of my favourite designers and I did a lot of fashion/art work around her in uni. She was a icon!

some interesting clothes and jewellery, I bought years ago, but for many years all knocked out in china for pennies.....might as well buy the fake stuff direct on ali express for a fraction of the cost....for her politics, she ought to have produced items ethically.
