Can I take a poll, please? We’ve aways done earlier than later bedtimes but he’s pushing for nine and it feels too late!

Thank you 🙏🏼

10pm Friday and Saturday
Otherwise school nights etc it's in bed watching his tv by 7 and tv off/lights out at 8.

swimmingincustard · 29/12/2022 20:22

I was thinking of making this thread too! DS is closer to 11 and still goes at 8.30 on a weeknight and 9-9.30 Friday and Saturday. He still wants a story every night 🙄 so while that's the case it will need to be early ish otherwise I'd have no evening!
Bedtime varies hugely among his peers though and I'd say he's at the earlier end.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/12/2022 20:24

10 in feb. She goes 10 on Friday/Saturday and 8 on school nights.

Afterfire · 29/12/2022 20:25

9pm here, sometimes 9.30pm during the holidays. He still had a bedtime story! 😁

DeathMetalMum · 29/12/2022 20:26

Almost 10 is 8 o'clock. Almost 12 8.30. Nearly 10 year old is a nightmare in the morning, any later would be worse, she was actually was going to bed earlier for last week of term as she was exhausted. Eldest is up at 6.30 school mornings and I have to wake her so no later for her at the moment.

I when I say bed both read until at least 9 normally but they are upstairs and in bed.

Howmanysleepsnow · 29/12/2022 20:26

9-9.30 depending on if they have a club till 8. 10 at weekends, though it creeps up to 11 in the holidays 🙈

UhhhhhhhOK · 29/12/2022 20:26

8.30-9 school night for 10yo. He wakes around 6.30 so works out ok
weekends 9.30-10

Quornflakegirl · 29/12/2022 20:27

Mine were 10 in September. School nights it’s bed for 8pm and reading until 8:30. Saturdays bedtime is 9:30.

Holidays is 10.

Hollyhead · 29/12/2022 20:28

School nights 9, weekends 10

BenoitBlanc · 29/12/2022 20:31

I don't think bedtimes are 'one-size-fits-all'.

My 10yo is very rarely asleep before 10, and sometimes 11 in the holidays. She wakes early and is never tired. She doesn't need much sleep.

Her 14yo brother needs more sleep and always has so at 10yo he was in bed and asleep by 8.30 or 9, latest. I often send them to bed at the same time now. This holiday he has been staying up later and has purple bags under his eyes to show for it.

Think about the amount of sleep your child needs to function well, and go with that.

Lovetotravel123 · 29/12/2022 21:01

I guess the right answer depends on what time they get up for school.

SolitaryMind · 29/12/2022 21:04

Just turned 11 year old goes to bed at 10 on a school night, (gets up at 8) 11 at weekends. I’d prefer it was earlier but he shares a room with 17 year old so feels hard done by

PeekAtYou · 29/12/2022 21:11

What time does he need to wake in the morning ?
My kids were going to bed at 9 and waking up by 7:30. They were easy to rouse and no problems with tiredness.

Hobbitlover · 29/12/2022 21:12

9.30pm school nights, 10.30pm holidays/weekends. Sometimes later due to his chosen sport which is very important to him.

Workyticket · 29/12/2022 21:14

8.30 on a school night. When he's tired on a weekend - he's been up till 10 ish most Christmas nights

I like it - he chills with us or chats with his pals in the back room on his xbox or on the phone

Squeakybits · 29/12/2022 21:17

10yo with ADHD between 8-9. Weekends between 8 and 10

Poinsettas · 29/12/2022 21:32

To bed at 8.30 for reading and lights out at 9pm, gets up at 7.20. At the weekend we don’t mind until 10pm as they do sleep in.

Forever42 · 29/12/2022 21:35

Normally 8.45/9pm. In the holidays, she's been up until 10.

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/12/2022 21:37

School night bed at 9 except the night she goes to scouts which doesn't finish till 930
So 10pm
Bed.

Weekends 10-1030

tootiredtospeak · 29/12/2022 21:48

10 YR 6 school nights 8.30 holidays and weekends 9.30

BordoisAgain · 29/12/2022 22:01

9.30 school nights and 11 on fri/sat

ChristmasTidyings · 29/12/2022 22:01

10 year old. Aim for 830, however twice a week she gets home at 830 so aim to be in bed by 930. Up at 615 for school, else will sleep in to 7-8.

Jules912 · 29/12/2022 22:03

8pm for my 10 year old, though he reads for a bit and sometimes later at weekends.
