Can I take a poll, please? We’ve aways done earlier than later bedtimes but he’s pushing for nine and it feels too late!

Thank you 🙏🏼

9.30 school nights and 11 on fri/sat

Although I should add he's in bed an hour before these times and can read until this time

9 Yr old 9pm weeknight, lights out 9.30. He wakes at 7.30, out of bed at 8.

Weekends 9.30- 10pm.

DS was 10 in august. He is in bed for 8.30-9 on a school night and weekends 9.30-10. Holidays can be 10.30 latest. He is up at 7.45 for school

8pm in term time (welcome to read but usually asleep by 8:15)…but routinely awake by 6:00 (and these days up and doing something quietly in his room). Holidays usually 8:00 too because he cannot and will not lie in…so gets overtired. We’ve discussed staying up later and sleeping later but to no avail.

DD is 10, her bedtime is 7:30, 8 on non-school nights. Usually at least half an hour of messing about after she goes up as well... She usually wakes at about 7 on a school morning (has to be prodded out of bed/have the duvet removed etc) but can manage to get up around 6 if there's no school. She's had the same bedtime since she was about 5.

We've told her that you only grow when you're asleep. She's about an inch shorter than me...

My 11 year old (year 6) goes to bed at 7.30 and lights off at 8.15

Grumpybutfunny · 29/12/2022 22:29

9 year old goes at 9pm and is still up by 6am if went any earlier he would be up at 5am!

uncomplicatedish · 29/12/2022 22:30

Mine turns 10 next week.
8.30 school night, 9pm weekends. He pushed it though, especially now it's the holidays.

KylieKangaroo · 29/12/2022 22:32

My daughter is almost 7 and goes at 9, feels too late for me but can never seem to get her down earlier!

Normandy144 · 29/12/2022 22:36

DD is 9 and will be 10 in the spring. We aim to get her upstairs and into pyjamas and into bed with a book between 8pm to 8.15pm. She still gets a couple of chapters read to her by us. She can then read independently until 9pm which is lights out.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 29/12/2022 22:36

Do you mean downstairs or upstairs? My 9 year old goes up at 8, but she’s not asleep for a while as she’s reading etc.

PolkaDotMankini · 29/12/2022 22:42

DD just turned 10. Bedtime is at 8, lights out at 9. "Bedtime" means "get ready for bed" which seems to take her the entire hour but she knows that if she isn't ready and in bed by 8.50 then she won't get a story. We'll sometimes let her stay up a bit later if it isn't a school night.

bumpytrumpy · 29/12/2022 22:47

My nearly 10yo gets weepy not long after 9pm, on the odd occasion up til 10pm an emotional wreck! We got home 9.30pm last night & he was struggling to finish his dinner tonight.

He's much better with bed at 8pm, lights out 8.30. I push for 8/8.15 on school nights but not always possible with clubs etc.

TokyoSushi · 29/12/2022 22:49

9:30 on a school night, 10 at weekends. Sleeps until about 9 at the weekend.

Susurrar · 29/12/2022 22:50

8/8:30 during the week. DS does not sleep in EVER and is really grumpy if he gets any less than 10h sleep. He is nearly 10.

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/12/2022 22:52

My 10 year old is still up now, in her room but it's school holidays!

On school nights 9.30 in theory, 10 in practice.
