How fantastic! So much space. And a walk-in airing cupboard!

Mynewhome · 30/12/2022 20:39

Thank you for all your lovely replies. After so long in temporary, Mine was sped up so would have been longer.i feel so lucky after going through that. My 2 youngest have never had a place to play no proper bedroom just a place to sleep. They have a big room now. But they still don't really play in there . I think it probably seems odd to them. But they were young enough to not really understand what was going on. My other children I made it like it was no big deal. It will be fine. But also being truthful with them.

I even normalised mice and rats was a shit time. But that will never happen again thank god 🙏

Those kids.in those rooms are so lucky.but in the fully deserved way.i can't believe it for them! How great it must feel to look around and see their rooms.their rooms!
Keep your eye out.now is the time for furniture shops sales.dare I say it job Lewis and the like are plastering sales here Nd there.
And look out for things shops would have had in their Christmas isles but aren't really Christmas themed so could be used as a norm.

Thank you so much . Yes it means alot to them. I'm so happy that my children have such a good space. Even if the younger ones don't quite know what to do with it 😅

I have ordered a small sideboard. 2 side tables and a coffee table for the living room. Hopefully it won't look to much.

I can't put anything on the walls yet. But when I can I'm going to put photos of my children . We have never had family photos up.

And some fun type things as well

It looks lovely & over time you will make it your own

Amiable · 31/12/2022 02:57

What a lovely home for you and your family, so pleased for you!

user375242 · 31/12/2022 03:03

I love the windows! Try La Redoute and Ikea for curtains, I find they tend to do longer than standard size. If not, that striped window film will offer privacy, even if not warmth.

kateandme · 31/12/2022 03:30

Also search for patio door curtains. They are always long! And narrows that search down so much easier if u find one of thrm yiu like.
You can get those great frames now too where you have one big fixture bit it has many frames in it.
Or what my mum did was by one of those huge frames and simply made a collage of loads of photos herself and stuck it into the frame.looked great.

kateandme · 31/12/2022 03:35

Have you also documented the journey with the house?I no you shown us photos that have already progressed.you could make one of those photobooks from them and the rest.so when your done you'll always have it as a moment.i of how far you've all come.
That's of course if your was away better than us and not still finishing the place 20 years later! But you could do them in stages.book 1,2 etc

Do you mean the journey /life from temporary accommodation through to now and going forward. Or do you mean the new house from a house to a home?

I have ordered curtains. I'm on the look out for light shades. I have been trying find ones that are a bit unusual. But I also don't want ones that make to much of a shadow . I hate shadows 🤣

What a lovely home!

I hope you'll all be safe and happy in it, and that you and your children will thrive.

Well done for all your perseverance.

foxlover47 · 31/12/2022 05:25

It's beautiful :) Happy new home

AcerbicColleague · 31/12/2022 05:52

It looks like a great home and very well kept! I am so happy for you that you have a permanent home; it is difficult to fully function when you're in transitional housing. Now you can put down roots and get on with your life x

I wish I could give you all beds but I also know that you will get that sorted.

AcerbicColleague · 31/12/2022 05:54

Oh I see from your update that you have beds now, fantastic!

Have you looked on etsy for light shades?also I find simply googling what I'm after and not going directly to sites, often points me in the right direction.or takes me to places I wouldn't have thought of before.

That's a good idea. I was hoping to find something a bit different. I have a coffee table and 2 side tables and a small side board coming today. They have an oak type top with dark blue doors . What I do find hard is that there's no chimney breast or resess in the room I think it gives a room a bit of character. Never mind 😅
