It’s that time of year again... the late Christmas present to our livers!
You may be thinking of doing Dry January to:

*detox a little after seasonal overindulgence, or
*help you cut down a bit generally, or
*help you start to get out of a harmful alcohol habit, or
*just be a bit healthier for a month...

It’s good for all of those things!

I find the MN DJ threads excellent for support, encouragement, sharing info, ‘we’re in this together’ camaraderie, suggestions for grown up drinks, aversion techniques and just fun.

This is my sixth year of DJ and I swear it may have saved my life; it was so hard first time, but having succeeded I did dry June and October after that, and do so most years. It has broken my habit, banished much of the craving and reset my relationship with booze. I imagine it's added years to my life.

I won’t be finding DJ too difficult this year, but some will. Hopefully this thread will help.

Throw your hat in the ring, pull up a chair and let's do this together. Everyone welcome 🙂☕️🧃

The DJ2022 Wagon creaks to a start in just 4 days, but always stops for latecomers 🙂

I'm in. Made it up to the last weekend of January the last two years - determined to complete dry Jan in 2023.

WheelofLife · 29/12/2022 20:11

I’d like to join too, but will start on the 2nd and do 30days :)

HPLikecraft · 30/12/2022 10:05

Well, it's drawing near folks... make sure you have stocked up on AF drinks, snacks and any other distractions you may require.
But anyway don't worry... you can do this!

I'm in too. Hope to start on 1st but may end up being the 2nd as I'll be at my mum's and I find her stressful at times😬I made an attempt last year to go teetotal and although I didn't succeed, I managed to cut down significantly for a few months. It also made me realise that I like myself a lot more when I'm not drinking! Think I might start reading some quit lit on kindle again in preparation as I found it helped me a lot last time.

deuxgarcons · 30/12/2022 13:41

I'm in too!! Thanks for starting the thread. Have drank far too much this year so looking forward to a reset. Have done it before although last year only lasted two weeks so aiming for the whole month this time.

Fuwari · 30/12/2022 13:54

I’d like to join as I desperately need to get out of a bad habit but I am a bit wary of going cold turkey as last time I tried I honestly felt like I was dying and it scared me back onto it again. I average a bottle to a bottle and a half of red a night. But I do think it’s probably better if I use the time to cut down drastically, so it won’t be a completely dry January, more an aim of being dry by the end of Jan.

novacancy3 · 30/12/2022 13:56

I'm in too. I've got the flu so made an early start on DJ as haven't had a drink since Boxing Day (or eaten much at all).

Haggisfish3 · 30/12/2022 13:59

I’m in.

Montypulciano · 30/12/2022 18:40

Many thanks to @Oblomov22 for directing me over here. I’d started a thread in a different t topic but glad to find you all in chat!

I’m a habitual drinker and need to break the habit. Plus I’m a bit / a lot tubby and could do with shifting a bit before the summer.

I’m going to start on the 3rd as that’s when I go back to work. Holiday and wine /cheese/ general festive treats until then.

Looking forward to getting to know you over the month.

Fundays12 · 30/12/2022 18:44

I am doing dry January. I feel rubbish and have drunk too much over Christmas time. I plan to loose 7 pounds by the end of Jan as I look tubby around the belly now.

AthenaWhite · 30/12/2022 18:53

I'm in and have done previous years. Drunk far too much over Christmas and looking forward to a clean month. Planning on lots of yoga, walking, new Bullet Journal, the lot. I aim to be sickeningly Smug Pollyannaish by the end of the month. 🙂

IAcceptCookies · 30/12/2022 19:10

Nice to see all the newcomers. Maybe we'll pick up a few others today and tomorrow.
Well I'm not drinking tonight, but have champagne in the fridge for tomorrow. At midnight I'll take my last swig then embrace the dryness!
Got Becks Blue on my shopping list.

doesthisonework · 30/12/2022 19:15

I'm in. I am a bit too reliant on early evening wine to relieve the stress of the kids. I did it last year and it did reduce the amount I drank afterwards. I've got the Dry Jan app and have entered three free days already because of this horrible bug, which makes the start easier. Good luck everyone!

YouLookinSusBro · 30/12/2022 19:21

I'm in. Planning to do Jan, and Feb if I can manage it, but definitely January. Also planning to low carb and keep the IF up. Really want to get healthier in 2023

SquirrelFan · 30/12/2022 21:38

I'm in. DH is resolutely not, so it might be difficult. We tend to bond over a cocktail of an evening, and I know he feels judged and irritated. So hoping this thread will keep me feeling supported. Thanks for starting it, OP!

Meggymoo777 · 30/12/2022 21:43

I'd like to join please 🙏 I love wine, more than recommended and have been piling on the pounds due to that as well as some other medication factors. I'm youngish and have a new demanding job I started a few months ago so I really want to start the year off right.

pharmacoco · 30/12/2022 22:02

I'm in Smile

staciea31 · 30/12/2022 22:20

I’m in so ready to feel healthier by the end of the month xx

Spirini · 30/12/2022 22:44

pulls up a chair...I'm in as well, I've done it in the past but have failed the last few years. Would like to shed some weight while I'm at it

Soberjan · 30/12/2022 22:49

Want to be there too. Thanks

Findyourneutralspace · 30/12/2022 22:54

Count me in. I’m actually thinking of going for 90 days instead - I’ve done dry months before but I’m a terrible binger. I’ve had more dry days this Christmas but drank way too much on the others and hate myself for it. It really affects my mental health.

lipstickwoman · 30/12/2022 22:58

I'm in, and actually looking forward to it. I know I feel better in every way without alcohol, I just don't manage it long term.

sleekitbeastie · 30/12/2022 23:01

I'm in. Did it last year expecting to shed multiple kg. Didn't happen, but slept well and felt better!

BobbilyBoo · 30/12/2022 23:07

I'm in too!

I have done Dry January and Sober September for the last few years, think I want to try for a bit longer than a month this time but will see how I go.

Won't be starting until the 2nd though as we have family for lunch on NYD.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 30/12/2022 23:08

I'm in!
I might have one or two on the 1st but fully in for the rest of the month.
I just enjoy my wine, but I'm going to start ttc again in the coming months so this is something to get my ass into gear.
