Can you please recommend your toaster to me - especially if it's long-lasting?

Our £9 toaster has died after 12 years. It was bought as a stop gap and was really ugly. But it refused to die until now. I can see lots of shiny looking ones online but which ones stand the test of time? Only want a 2 slice one as the 4 slice ones look enormous.

Thanks

Dualit. Mine is a 4 slice model and almost 20 years old. It had a new dial and a service about 4 years ago. Not sure the new ones are as robust, so maybe look for second hand?

Mine is Breville. I've had it coming up to 8 years and no idea how long my parents had it before

minipie · 28/12/2022 19:38

I have a Kenwood toaster that’s been going since 2005. Looks like they do some quite nice retro styled options for rather less than the Dualit.

Watto1 · 28/12/2022 19:38

I bought a dualit 10 years ago after working in hospitals and seeing the ward’s ancient dualit making dozens of slices of toast daily and never breaking down! Yes, expensive to buy initially but pay for themselves with their longevity ..

GlamGiraffe · 28/12/2022 19:44

I've got a four long slot magimix one. 14 years old so far. It certainly earns it's keep here!

NotMeNoNo · 28/12/2022 19:51

Yeah you want the UK made catering style Dualit with replaceable elements. 20+ years here, I think we've had 2 new elements on the left slot. www.nisbets.co.uk/dualit-combi-vario-3-slice-toaster-polished/cd342

My dualit is 15 years old and still perfect.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 28/12/2022 20:11

Dualit here, too. 12 years old. Mum and Dad's is 40 yrs old. Worked in two pubs when I was younger and they both had Dualit's too. Used dozens of times a day. As others have said, try and pick one up 2nd hand.

Second choice would be Delonghi. Again, long lasting. Come up in the sales half price regularly.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 28/12/2022 20:13

Dualit 4 slice here, 19 years old.

StormObelisk · 28/12/2022 20:15

Dualit 2 slice here. I did have a cheaper dualit one, the one with the black abs on it. The abs melted about 18 months in and it was a bit haphazard on the toasting front.

The original dualit is great - even toasting and ten years old.

Beamur · 28/12/2022 20:16

I have one of the cheaper Dualit toasters. More than 10 years and still going strong..

OwwwMuuuum · 28/12/2022 20:23

We had a gorgeous dualit toaster which sadly worked unevenly for 2 years then died. Yes you can get replacement parts with a bit of faff from dualit, but you have to fit them yourself 😕not being skilled in micro electronics I had to tip it.

Tootyfilou · 28/12/2022 20:28

Dualit, ours is 27 years old.

Splcam · 28/12/2022 20:32

Rowlett Rutland. Classic mid century modern design, extremely robust construction, British made with life time guarantee (at least mine was), you can buy spare parts for them and have them repaired. But...expensive. get them from Nisbets.co.uk.

borntobequiet · 28/12/2022 20:35

I have one from Morrisons that is ten years old now and doing fine.

Floydthebarber · 28/12/2022 20:36

We have had a Tefal one since 2006. Simple stainless steel, 2 slices. Still works perfectly.

Do the Dualit ones actually toast the whole slice ? I have to keep turning the bread as my toaster leaves about 2 inches of a slice sticking out of it.

Yes they do

echt · 28/12/2022 20:59

Dualit four-slicer, 27 years old and still going strong.

Also a two-slicer I found on a nature strip, dusty but otherwise perfect, as the chap who serviced it told me.

They are not popular in Australia. Don't know why.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/12/2022 21:00

We have a family friend who bought his Dualit with his first pay check in 1982. He replaced a heating element in about 2000. Other than that .... still going strong.

JulesJules · 28/12/2022 21:04

Dualit here too, sorry! I see everyone is saying the same.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 28/12/2022 21:05

Dualit, sorry. £££ but it lasted well, and most importantly, makes the best, crispiest toast

Squishedstormtrooper · 28/12/2022 21:05

We had a black breville toaster for 7 years then put it outside as free with loads of stuff when we were moving- most of it went but the toaster didn’t and it got rained on. My dad came round the next day and asked what we were doing with it and I said take it to the skip as it had been outside overnight and rained on and he took it and it’s lasted another 5 years and is still going strong. If my step mum knew she would kill him.

wigywhoo · 28/12/2022 21:43

Dualit - 20 years old

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/12/2022 21:45

I too have a 20 year old Dualit.
