I am so bored I could cry.

Bored, bored, bored. Bored with the Internet, bored with my life just bored.

All my life I've had obsessions, anything from cooking, to buying a dog, to getting married, to planning a holiday, to decorating, to having a children, running etc. Nothing lasts as an obsession (I mean I don't get rid of the dog/children I still love and care but not with the same researching obsession)
I've never had to look for the next obsession it just arrives...but this time nothing, I can't get engrossed or interested in anything and it is killing me. No idea why I'm telling strangers.

I get similar obsessions, I like gaming when inbetween, I get really into open world games I can wonder off and explore, Fallout 76 game lasted 3 years of obsession, I loved building new and different camps and having other players looking around them, selling rare items and finding pets for myself and other players.

I am currently without anything at the moment though too 😐

I also think @Oher observes a trend that is real.

BoringPeopleGetBored · 28/12/2022 17:01

@Soonenough very guilty, I appreciate this sort of boredom is only possible in a privileged life. If everyday was a struggle for food/shelter/warmth then there wouldn't be time for this wallowing.

@MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig yes I think mine is partly that as well. Obsessions were linked to my life but now I don't have that anchor.

@Merlott I will try that, escapi into Merlot is something I'm trying to avoid.

@2reefsin30knots I get that but the gap between obsessions has been too long.

@MyDogStoodOnABee I like looking for journals, that will give me focus for a little while, I think thinking about plans for 2023 is a good idea.

How old are you? The feeling of nothingness seems really common with perimenopause / menopause.

travailtotravel · 28/12/2022 17:02

How old are you? Perimenopause did this to me!

Do you know about bullet journals?

CovertImage · 28/12/2022 17:03

Are we just saying "ADHD" to everything now?

I like the planning journal idea above OP

Ah, I have it felt that all consuming obsession for years! I really miss it. These days I can't get into anything. I try sometimes but nothing sticks the way it used to. Mostly I feel, what's the point? Everything feels too much effort and doesn't interest me enough. And yes, I'm bored too. Just scrolling the internet. Maybe that's the issue... I really hope it comes back one day.

That was supposed to start, "I haven't felt..."

Rainraingoaway21 · 28/12/2022 17:14

Do you have the means to look into booking your next holiday? That can take alot of research!

Then you also have something to look forward to.

The next stage would be 'the getting the clothes, bits you need for holiday' research!

NCy · 28/12/2022 17:18

Placemarking to read this thread later since I've become like this too...

Lolojojonesi · 28/12/2022 17:19

I was also going to say menopause/peri-menopause. I am also a massive obsessive nerd who goes from one thing to another, but lost a lot of this in my later 40s, just felt I couldn't be bothered with anything anymore. This was the main reason I started HRT, which has definitely helped me get my mojo back.

kimchifix · 28/12/2022 17:21

Volunteering? Can you get involved with a cause you care about? I'm sure there are many that could use someone with your drive?

Or studying? You could have a look for online courses or adult education - fallen down a fair few rabbit holes of this nature recently and it's quite time consuming!

Planning the garden or decorating a room? Having a clear out of junk?

TheFrustratedRedhead · 28/12/2022 17:22

Gosh I could have written this! I have no suggestions but you’re not alone…

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 28/12/2022 17:24

I too am like this, usually obsessed with something or other, right now can't get into anything. I've started a drawing, I've booked a holiday, started a sourdough starter, started knitting socks, I'm reading two books, nothing's doing it for me and so I'm scrolling on here instead 😩

mondaytosunday · 28/12/2022 17:27

My latest obsession is crochet! I started it awhile ago when my daughter got a kit for her birthday. But nothing came if it. Then suddenly a few days ago as I was putting on a scarf my sister had knitted I got inspired. YouTube certainly helps!

FunctionalSkills · 28/12/2022 17:32

I was wondering about autism (I think I'm autistic/adhd) and have been like this about special interests.

Also do be aware if its depression. Sometimes that shows up as a nothingness or loss of interest in things.

Gemmanorthdevon · 28/12/2022 17:32

ADHD by any chance, I'm exactly the same and about to be diagnosed I think. My brain doesn't stop, it's like train hurtling through a busy station, playing all the announcements at the same time, switching tracks all the time and never stopping long enough to let anybody off! There's a trolley service, some magicians and a travelling zoo going up and down the Isles, and everybody is wearing light up trainers...

I've found a way forward though..... learning and research. That as an obsession in itself snd provides infinite obsession opportunity! And so many things blend into different things, it would be never ending. Get on it!

Meanwhile I'm just settling down to reading " Learning the piano" from the " For Dummies" collection.

Good luck!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 28/12/2022 17:40

Perimenapause could also be very likely, personally. Just to add to the mix.

RLOU30 · 28/12/2022 17:40

i don’t mind you asking at all. There’s lots of things. From loosing things, being bad with money, coming up with amazing ideas but struggling to complete them to sensitivity with noises (people eating etc). Pre having my little boy I used various drugs (also an obsession really) to mask my condition and cope but that stopped thankfully 6 years ago. My brother also has it and ADHD meds helped him so I pushed to get diagnosed- start meds in January finally.
I am currently doing a lot of gem art in the evenings to stop me fiddling and moving all my furniture around lol. Exercise also really helps..

bloomtoperish · 28/12/2022 17:45

You find tiktok videos too slow? That's quite something!

QueenieL1 · 28/12/2022 17:47

Have you ever been obsessed with people? Like really intense crushes?

Ohnotheydidnt · 28/12/2022 17:48

Yep 😔

Jaybird43 · 28/12/2022 17:48

I could’ve written this and I’m pretty sure I have ADHD. I often OBSESS over TV shows / films then won’t watch them for months before bingeing again. Likewise, if I want to buy something / change something in the house, I will obsess and obsess until I do it. Then, not too long goes by before I’m obsessing and need to change it again. I hate it. DH tells me to forget it but I can’t. It’s awful and nobody I know understands.

anythinginapinch · 28/12/2022 17:52

I'm late 50s diagnosed adhd three years ago. I'm sooooo bored because by my age there is honestly fuck all new in the world! Just variations of the same old stuff. Done crafts, sport, travel, moving, kids, sex, drugs, research, blah blah.
