Covid - is there a really awful varient at the moment?

Ive caught covid again and i feel like death.

Previous 2 covid infections were ok. First one was just a low level cold, 2nd one was sore throat and tiredness. But this time ive been properly knocked out.

So is there a really awful varient at the moment? Or is it that all my immunity from vaccinations and previous infections has vanished so I've been hit with a full whack?

No idea - but I’m right there with you. Hoping someone more informed comes along soon…

Woke up yesterday feeling rough, tested positive today and feel dreadful. Hope you feel much better soon.

Pipsqueakpopsqueak · 28/12/2022 13:25

There’s a horrible covid like Flu doing the rounds - we are all on day 10 in my household and still suffering. I got 2 hours of sleep last night as I couldn’t stop coughing. Started as a sore throat and exhaustion levels of tiredness, aches pains and fever followed by the cough and then the snot around day 4 with constant nausea. I am now very wheezy and shattered and it never came up positive on a covid test.
We had to skip Christmas, it’s been nothing short of horrific!

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 28/12/2022 13:25

Tested positive for the first time yesterday. Obviously I have no frame if reference but this is dire. Absolute hell cough, temperature, razor throat and dizziness. 😭😭

When did you last have covid? Almost everyone I know who has had omicron has been pretty unwell

Quizzed · 28/12/2022 13:39

I've currently got covid. Mine started with a really sore neck and shoulder pain and now I've got a runny nose. Apart from the sore neck which has nearly gone this bout of covid is much milder for me. I've not had the last booster, I have had the flu jab though and last had covid in June.

HomeAGnome · 28/12/2022 13:41

Everyone I know who's had it before says this time it's the worse they've had

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/12/2022 13:52

I had omicron about 3 weeks ago and felt the worst ever, knew it was different from a virus I’d had 2 weeks earlier for 2 days as I had a horrendous headache, aches and pains, vomiting and nothing much (like painkillers) would touch it. The symptoms came and went and lasted 10-11 days. I also got wheezy, a cough and runny nose. Not had covid before. I first noticed I was feeling unwell on day of nephew’s nativity play, felt freezing but strangely DB and his family who I was with and DM and stepdad all didn’t catch omicron from me. DB and his family got omicron in March of this year though.

Note of warning, it takes about 2 months to properly recover from covid, 2 friends told me who had omicron this spring. I definitely feel not myself and taking Actimel daily.

HappyHolidai · 28/12/2022 13:58

I've had it for the last 2 and a half weeks. Wasn't actually that unwell with respiratory symptoms but I'm still exhausted and spending most of my time in bed. Feel better one day and then back to feeling shattered the next.

AfterEightMintyCedric · 28/12/2022 13:58

I've had flu and 4th booster jabs this autumn but still managed to get hit by an absolute stinker of a cold.

Couldn't sleep laying down for ten days. It's 3 weeks tomorrow since it started and I still feel achy, lethargic, wheezy and am having to blow my nose about 20x a day (resulting in nosebleeds...bonus!)

Fuck only knows how those with Covid are coping...I'm masking up again for the time being as an extra precaution.

I’ve had this too. Over two weeks now and the cough is just relentless - So so tired.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 28/12/2022 14:31

I've read the study that said covid has effect on your immune system. So you may still have immunity from vaccine + infection, but your immune system itself hasn't recovered properly, maybe?

Are you sure? I mean l last had it in May but l was fine after a week.

I just think it really depends on the person. I had Covid but didn't have one symptom and could easily go for a 10K run. Yet I had the common cold in October and was in bed 3 days.

CovidGrumble · 28/12/2022 15:01

I last had it in February. Last vaccine was a year ago in December.

Last night was awful, my temperature was all over the place despite ibuprofen and paracetamol. It hit over 40 a couple of times but then dropped back down again.

I tested+ just before Xmas and I didn't know what was coming. I actually felt fine .. better than last time aside from minor dizzy spells and lot's of fatigue.

classicaltwist · 28/12/2022 15:05

Lots and lots of people are unwell. Not covid, just general colds and flu. I've been I'll for around 9 days now started off as a minor coke and gradually got worse and worse. Now day 9 I feel like death with a temperature spiking to 39.5. 3rd year in a row I've been unwell over Xmas. Completely sick and tired of it. Before I had my covid jabs, I was never ill. Convinced it's to do with them.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 28/12/2022 15:05

No vaccine booster

mrstea301 · 28/12/2022 16:15

Same, I had a bad cough/cold from last week in August for about six weeks - two rounds of antibiotics, one round of steroids, an inhaler and a turbohaler before it shifted.

And then it returned about two weeks ago, so yet again, I'm sick over Christmas, still sick now, coughing so hard that I keep peeing myself and struggling to get to sleep. The only way I can get to sleep is to have a couple of hot toddy's before I go to bed, and have agreed with DH that I'll have a couple of hot toddy's and go to bed before him tonight in the hope that I'll manage to fall asleep before he comes to bed.

Just so fucking fed up of feeling shit, had to cancel loads of Christmas plans and just have felt crap for the plans I did manage to make it to.

WinterDeWinter · 28/12/2022 16:17

Can I ask how people know which variant they have?

astralpiano · 28/12/2022 16:24

Your booster is wearing off.

AnnieSnap · 28/12/2022 16:25

Apparently, the Omicron BA.5 (the latest sub variant) is worse than the Omicron variants that went before. It’s said to be similar to the first UK variant Delta. That fits with what my DH and I have just had. We were so ill with it. 6 weeks on and I’m still not over it. Still a bad chest, cough and fatigue.

Wonnle · 28/12/2022 16:43

The amount of cases of it are very soon to be unreported in the UK

It's like it never happened now isn't it

Blueisthecolour1 · 28/12/2022 17:22

I have been ill now since the 10th Dec with what I can only assume is flu, as I’ve repeatedly tested & results keep coming back negative. Every day I wake up with some new kind of ailment - started with a sore throat, then my face just exploded, a streaming nose day & night, nausea & intense chills.

Then last week & up until yesterday relentless coughing, again day & night. Today a sore throat again & a horrible earache in my left ear. I’m so fed up, I can’t remember ever having felt this bad for so long, I had Covid last year & it wasn’t a patch on this evil bug. I just can’t shake it

IneedanewTV · 28/12/2022 17:25

Mine started 18th Dec. I thought I was better by Christmas Eve but no by Boxing Day it had returned. Lethargy, bloody dry cough, bloody wet cough, hot, cold, earache, blocked ears etc etc. I’m never ill until the last two weeks.

TerfOnATrain · 28/12/2022 17:35

I’ve had it twice, once in early 2021 unvaccinated and the second time two
months ago, three vaccines in.

first time nothing but loss of smell and taste, second a mild cold.

DD had it over Christmas for the second time after four vaccines and didn’t even know she had it other than by testing Christmas morning before getting together. She’s now testing clear.
