Anyone know what this is? Baffled...

I was given this at Christmas. But I'm at a complete loss as to what it is. It's apparently made of silk scraps. Is it just decorative?
NB I can't ask the giver - I already showed my appreciation and to follow up with 'what is it?' seems a little rude!

Looks like a dog toy?

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2022 22:58

(And should I unravel it?)

What's the tan coloured loopy bit to the left?

littlefaith · 27/12/2022 22:59

I made a doll and bought something similar so I could use the silk scraps (sari material?) as her hair. Do you sew?

Allsnotwell · 27/12/2022 23:00

If you down load the google app you can search using pictures.

Looks like a dog toy?
That was my first thought (I do have a dog) but I was a bit worried asking that might seem even ruder! It seems a bit delicate for a dog (especially mine!)

Is it to be used like a loofah/bath scrunchy thing in the shower?

I don't know! Maybe to hang it up?

Are you sure she wasn't wrapping while drunk and confused your present with some rags intended for the recycling bin?

That's a thought! No I don't. But maybe that's what it's for. Definitely closer than anything I've thought of.

Another one who thought dog toy but yes materials look too delicate. Intrigued!

While this is obviously what it is, I've read the description and still don't know what its for.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 27/12/2022 23:07

You could knit, crochet or weave something very small but chunky.

Or give it to the dog.

McDonaldsMcChanel · 27/12/2022 23:09

To me it looks like yarn.

Take up knitting for 2023?!

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2022 23:09

@HowDoWeDoThisPlease
@FurAndFeathers

I think this is probably it, thank you!
Although the pieces seem a bit wide for yarn. I love that it's probably made from waste silk, as it seems such a shame to throw it away. I think I'll hang it up in the kitchen and hope the dog doesn't also think it's a dog toy!

It's an unusual gift for you if you're not much of a crafter. I'm trying to think of an alternative use for it that doesn't involve sewing (or any effort, more to the point). Is it quite solid and weighty?

Fathercrossmas · 27/12/2022 23:11

Can you tie it to a light pull?

Workinghardeveryday · 27/12/2022 23:14

I thought dog toy straight away

kimchifix · 27/12/2022 23:14

Is it a scarf? Are you sure the pieces are loose?

WonderingWanda · 27/12/2022 23:14

What an odd gift if you aren't a crafter. I think you need to ask your friend what it's for. Just send her a text tell her that politely thanked her for her gift with no clue what it was but assuming that Google would help you work out what it was. However, after much searching you are none the wiser and maybe she could enlighten you?

I realised it was probably designed to be slightly untied. My friend said she thought it was pretty and I do like it, but I think she thought it was just decorative. I've hung it up and decided to use bits as and when - maybe for gift wrap. Thank you for the replies!
