If you work full time, how do you fit in keep-fit?

Just that! If you keep fit, how or when do you fit exercise into your working day? Especially (indeed specifically!) if you work in an office, and do not have much flexibility over timings.

Sort of allied to this, if you have any (healthy :-) lunch tips that help you feel full of energy, this would also be helpful. New year, new job, hopefully new me. Thank you!

When DC are in bed, around 8pm I'll do a 30/45 min peloton class.

If I don't I just sit on my phone and scroll through shite. Must admit though, I sometimes choose that!

Flockameanie · 27/12/2022 19:22

I get up really early and do it before breakfast. What time do you leave for work? If you’re already up at 6am to be out the door by 7, then this likely won’t work for you! Earliest I usually have to leave home by is 8.25. So I get up at 6.05, am working out by 6.20 for about a hour. Then I start kids breakfast hop in shower while DH gets them up and I’m back downstairs again by 8ish. All of us out the door around 8.30.

Flockameanie · 27/12/2022 19:22

I work out at home though - I’ve got weights here and a treadmill. Or I run outside from the front door. That’s the only way I can fit it in - no time to get to a gym and back.

I used to leave work and go straight to the gym.
Obviously it all depends on when you finish etc. I used to finish work at 3:30pm and the gym was 10 min walk away.

scooobie · 27/12/2022 19:23

Get up really early. It’s the only way.

Doesn’t eat into time with kids either as they’re asleep.

DarkMoon · 27/12/2022 19:24

I took up womens rugby, training once or twice a week 7-8.30pm then a match every other Sunday, bonus is as well as getting incredibly fit I made a whole new group of friends.

gwenneh · 27/12/2022 19:25

I ride horses, so I get up first thing on weekends and go do that before the DC are awake. I also go after work occasionally, when the DC have activities & DH handles ferrying them around.

CrapBucket · 27/12/2022 19:25

I do yoga and occasionally go for a run, I am generally active rather than passive, I don't eat loads of shite and I fast regularly.

Cheerfulpedantry · 27/12/2022 19:26

I plan to do 30 mins in morning or two 15 mins workouts during the day. That’s my new year resolution. Or a lunchtime run.

When I used to travel to work I cycled and that was my exercise.

SeasonsBleatings · 27/12/2022 19:26

I'm an early riser so when I can be bothered I get up at 6am and do a TV workout before DH and the kids get up.

CrapBucket · 27/12/2022 19:26

Oh and I walk the dog a lot. Sometimes during work time if I have phone calls to make... only to my best clients who all know my dog/don't mind hearing me call him 🤣

SingedToast · 27/12/2022 19:26

I don’t drive, so I walk or cycle to work, school run etc. I tend to keep fit from this.

MsNorris · 27/12/2022 19:27

I get up at 530am every day and train for 30-45mins, it’s the only way. Oddly I am getting up later as is Xmas holidays and I am far more tired getting up at 730 than at 530.

astronewt · 27/12/2022 19:28

I work out at home with weights or run. I do it at 0630, or at lunchtime, or at 1730 after I finish work.

This really! I do 6am CrossFit classes, sometimes a 7am and straight to work and DH deals with DC school/nursery drop offs but mainly 6am and then home to get ready for work. DH goes straight from work to the 5pm class (can leave at 435/440) and is then home for 615 as he'll take a short lunch to do this.

It's a priority for both of us though and still being able to make classes was a factor when we were both looking for new jobs this year.

Jules912 · 27/12/2022 19:32

I mostly just do a lot of walking, so walk to/from the station and go for a walk at lunchtime. I used to run at the weekend but long Covid put pay to that.

Ikeameatballs · 27/12/2022 19:35

I go to the gym straight from work twice/week and go at least once on Sat/Sun. I usually leave work at 6 so do a shorter work out in the week to get home for around 7:30 and then try and do a longer workout at the weekends. Sometimes try and do some core exercises in between the gym sessions but only around 10 minutes.

I couldn’t get up early!

SirChenjins · 27/12/2022 19:35

I walk the dog - easier when I’m wfh. I refuse to get up at 5.30 (have to get up at 6am to leave for walk) and that would just wake the dog up and disturb the rest of the family anyway, so I fit in walks the rest of the week and weekends. It’s really hard to fit in exercise on top of house stuff and ferrying kids to stuff.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 27/12/2022 19:36

I work in an office 7-3, and do a gym class 3:30-4:30 a few times a week on the way home from work.

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:36

I really struggle with this as I used to do a lot of classes with DH & friends so it was social thing too. I don't like jogging or the gym & the idea of getting up at 6am depresses me!

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:37

i walk a lot though.

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:38

the people who get up at 5/6am what time do you go to bed?

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:38

i also find it difficult to fit stuff in between 3:30-7:30 as there's kids activities, homework, reading & dinner.

alanabennett · 27/12/2022 19:39

I go to F45 classes at 5:30 am - I'm home by 6:25 and can shower before getting my youngest up for school. I am not yet into the routine so it's a real pain but I know that soon it'll be "just what I do." If I don't go in the morning there is absolutely no chance I'll go in the evening.

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:39

i don't even work ft!
