Nicest and worst "standard" flavour soup?

Eg.

Tomato, cream of chicken, mushroom, vegetable etc

So in general 'one' main ingredient.

I'm not interested in your fancy schmancy curried butternut and red pepper soups or your lobster bisques ;)

Best: tomato
Worst: mushroom

Our total standby is Marks & Spencer cream of mushroom soup. 3 tins in every weekly shop. Never fails to satisfy.

Best- tomato
Worst- any other, especially chicken or oxtail

Homemade:
Best- pea or lentil and bacon
Worst- there is no worst

Worst: canned tomato soup (watery pasta sauce with no pasta!)

I'm not a fan of mushrooms but there's a dip made in New Zealand that involves condensed mushroom soup and it's delicious.

Best is Baxter's Cock a Leekie.

Worst is Heinz Chicken Noodle because it's like no chicken noodle soup that anyone's mother ever made them and more likely to make you sick than cure anything.

Best mushroom soup (honourable mentions for chicken soup and leek & potato)

Worst clam/lobster but if they are classed as "posh" then pea soup, including pea and mint/pea and ham.

I had Baxters Cock a leekie recently as I loved it as a child. I was most disappointed. It was like dishwater.

Pea soup always reminds me of a story from when my dad was a GP.

Gross detail coming up! Consider this your warning

He got called to a death (I think the person had been dead for a while) and the poor deceased person had clearly been very ill as there was a lot of...bodily fluid everywhere, and it was green. Dad eventually got home to mum serving him up pea soup. Despite his strong stomach, he unsurprisingly found he couldn't eat it. (The story was told many years ago so apologies if some of it doesn't make complete sense)

I had sweet potato and chipotle yesterday. It's knocked my favourite leek and potato well out of the soup bowl.

Get there fine with your sweet potatoes and your fancy Chipotle....

Leek and potato is what we're looking for here ;)

Worst: spring vegetable

I used to love the Heinz vegetable soup but since I had Covid a year or so ago it just tastes dusty to me.
