Good quality socks.

apologies for a boring sock post.

Any idea where I can get good quality but reasonable priced socks?? That last through washes.

I get through so many socks. After a few washes I seem to get holes in them or they shrink. Drives me mad.

I tend to get them at Sainsbury’s as there's a store nearby and they often have them half price so I stock up but they don't last. Next are terrible quality I've found. Had some from Asda which seem okay but no Asda nearby.

any recommendations?

Pringle.. cost more..last longer..buy from their own website..
They used to do a bulk buy..really good deal...

I’ve bought some John Lewis merino wool socks in the hope they are good for the weather. I think they were £12 for two pairs. I’ve yet to wear them.

I got a multipack of DKNY socks from TKMaxx last year and they’re my favourites which surprised me. I also got some bamboo socks from Boots a while ago and they’re really comfy, they do ones with a softer cuff.

Bam socks are lovely and wear well. Available from their website.

The happy sock company.

PikachusSmarterBrother · 26/12/2022 19:51

I've got some a Pringle socks that I really like too - they're bamboo ones.

Featheryboa · 26/12/2022 19:53

Have some from tkmaxx that last really well. Bamboo socks

TheNoodlesIncident · 26/12/2022 19:58

Bamboo ones are beautifully soft and seem to last reasonably well. As do Fatface ones (I buy on the three for two offer only). I do find all socks shrink a bit in the tumble dryer but I always stretch them back to size afterwards and that works okay.

I don't think it's always the socks' quality to blame for holes, those plastic things that are put in them for the packaging damages them and then wearing and washing makes it worse.

Colour burst bamboo socks from Sock Shop.

lochmaree · 26/12/2022 20:14

BAM are fab. especially the 'active' ones with a thicker layer on the sole. They often have sales or discounts.

However I've recently been converted to barefoot shoes and then got into more barefoot friendly socks which don't restrict your toes and I love my new toetoe socks.

SmartWool or Darn Tough.

Colour burst bamboo socks from Sock Shop.

Definitely these!

PerpetualStudent · 26/12/2022 20:24

Thought cotton socks - not the cheapest but very sturdy and last for years

RhubarbFairy · 26/12/2022 20:25

Adding to the Sock Shop bamboo recommendations! Bamboo socks all the way!

SalviaOfficinalis · 26/12/2022 20:25

Whatever you get, wash at 30 degrees not 40 so they don’t shrink.

harktheherold · 26/12/2022 20:31

I was just coming on to say Pringle too. They are very soft, high quality, and don't shrink much in the wash

elevenplusdilemma · 26/12/2022 20:34

If you're wearing through socks super fast and tend to wear the same shoes, check the inner sole of your shoes. Chances are they're worn and that's what's wearing your socks out quickly.

Back to the original question, these are a bit boring but I've found they last very well:

I find Seasalt very good for socks

I'm also able to repair toes of my socks with a darning technique

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 26/12/2022 20:37

Agree with Seasalt. My nicest and best quality socks are from there.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/12/2022 20:43

Agree with Thought.
I find that BAM socks last about 2 mins.
I find Sock shop bamboo socks are uncomfortably warm.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/12/2022 20:43

DH has Sock Shop bamboo socks. I have BAM. When it’s really cold I have Nordic ones.

AutisticLegoLover · 26/12/2022 20:44

M&S ones wore thin after 2 wears. I walk a lot and my socks need to be up to the job. I'm thinking quality over quantity now as I'm fed up of socks that twist and wear thin so I'm watching this thread with interest. I'm especially interested in recommendations from posters who walk several miles a day in trainers.

PikachusSmarterBrother · 26/12/2022 20:47

I only wash socks at 30C now, and I don't tumble dry them either. A combination of these things has stopped the usual sock shrinkage.

Oldraver · 26/12/2022 20:50

Pearls1234 · 26/12/2022 20:21

SmartWool or Darn Tough.

I did live my Darn Tough though almost all have shrunk dreadfully despite not being tumble dried
