How long does this flu-like virus last?

I'm reaching the end of day 4. The headache and muscle pain has gone but the nausea and bone crushing tiredness haven't let up at all.

I know it's doing the rounds everywhere. How long was it until you felt normal again?

OP posts:
Mezmer · 24/12/2022 16:25

It took me about eight weeks I’m afraid.

MardyMincepie · 24/12/2022 16:26

Almost three weeks, sorry

HirplesWithHaggis · 24/12/2022 16:31

I'm a month in, but the worst symptoms are over.

5 days of feeling rough and then picked up. Cough is still lingering 9 days in.

There seems to be a few different bugs going round (or it’s hitting people differently) so no one can possibly say for you!

Just take care of yourself, rest, hydrate to flush it through, eat healthily, take vitamins.

FrownedUpon · 24/12/2022 16:34

5 weeks here

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 24/12/2022 16:36

I felt quite good yesterday, but today is a week in, and I'm suffering again.

Lullabies2Paralyze · 24/12/2022 16:37

2 days of fever/aches/shivers etc, one day and night emptying my bowels constantly feeling tired. Was a bit tired yesterday. Feel fine now.

I’ve had my flu jab though so think that’s why I’ve not been as bad.

AliceinSlumberland · 24/12/2022 16:38

I’m 24 weeks pregnant and couldn’t take anything, I was really rough for a week but feeling better now. Definitely had it that I’d feel slightly better then get worse again though.

earsup · 24/12/2022 16:39

FuckabethFuckor · 24/12/2022 16:39

DH was back to normal in under a week.

Cheesybiscuitsmineallmine · 24/12/2022 16:50

I'm two weeks in and still feeling terrible. Hoping it goes away soon, not liking all these people saying they've been ill for such long periods. Get well soon, everyone!

Pipsqueakpopsqueak · 24/12/2022 17:04

I’m on day 4 too, same as you - headache has finally let up but I’m still feeling really seasick and exhausted. I’m so hungry it hurts but the sight or smell of food makes me wretch. Spent most of today bawling like a baby and feeling quite depressed. This thing is bloody awful.

DH is half a day ahead of me and he seems quite spritely today, but he managed more or less a full nights sleep unlike me. He’s also got a flu jab on board and I (regretfully) do not.

I hope you feel better soon OP!!

Isababybel · 24/12/2022 17:04

Ive had it for nearly a week but i feel much much better already. Just a hacking productive cough that is still very much there, but i actually feel fine in myself now. Fingers crossed you are feeling much better soon.

Conkered · 24/12/2022 17:13

Can I ask how long people think the incubation phase is? DS1 came down with it on Monday - no-one else yet, which is a bit unnerving!

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 24/12/2022 17:18

I'm day 6

Todays the first day I've not been able to tell meds are due just by the sheer body shakes shivers or heacdache coming back Blush

I've also had a horrendous tummy but have today taken Imodium as haven't eaten hardly anything for four days now and really need to try

My energy levels feel a little better today but as long as I pace myself

The rib and stomach muscle pain from coughing is awful

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 24/12/2022 17:19

Nearly 5 weeks here and I've actually caught a cold on top of it 🦠.

After 3 weeks I had more energy, before that tiredness kept coming in waves along with the odd bit of nausea.

Doje · 24/12/2022 17:38

Ooh, this is interesting. I'm on day 5 and feeling fine but sounding awful just because I'm clearing the cough. Day 2 and 3 were chills, fever and lack of appetite. My appetite hasn't quite returned yet either which is a shame over Christmas! 🤣

I've been flu jabbed also and don't seem to have had it as bad as some.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 24/12/2022 18:17

Mine was in October. But seems to be the same as what people have now.
I had it for over six weeks and a round of antibiotics. Never felt so ill. Also found out that I am allergic to penicillin. Which added to the joys of symptoms and took a few days to get out of my system.

FredaFox · 24/12/2022 18:19

I started with it 2.5 weeks ago, left with a minor cough this week
3 days ago started feeling I'll again, today I'm rotten m. Currently in bed as can't get warm and my cough is horrific
Still negative

pursudebyablackdog · 24/12/2022 18:26

I'm on day one....Christmas is postponed! No gifts wrapped as I've been looking after two unwell children all week. Both children have been so awesome today and completely accepting that tomorrow they won't be having Father Christmas or any presents; honestly they've been little troopers today getting me glasses of water and bringing paracetamol at regular intervals. Once I'm better I'll make it up to them big time!

Needthisjob · 24/12/2022 18:44

How long is a piece of string?
The likelihood of you having the same virus as other posters is low. They could be 2000 miles away from you. Your immune system will be completely different to other posters.
There is no way to know how long you will be ill for. I hope you feel better soon.

goingback · 24/12/2022 19:17

since October, don't know if it's all the same bug, had sinus pain and mucus for the first few weeks, nausea and shivering on and off, sore throat constantly, muscle pain, and stomach trouble probably from so many lemsips, but never had a cough. Tested negative for Covid , no antibiotics.

TerrazzoChips · 24/12/2022 19:25

Oh dear all these 3/4/5 weeks are getting me worried! I’m having a section in a fortnight and can’t imagine feeling like this for that! Or coughing afterwards…

Lndnmummy · 24/12/2022 19:42

Day 14 for me

autienotnaughty · 24/12/2022 20:19

I had about 2 weeks of feeling exhausted like I was coming down with something , then it started last week. Three days of chills, temp, sickness, headache, exhaustion, cough , sore throat. The last two days it's been exhaustion cough and sore throat. Really hoping it goes soon.
Does anyone else feel like they can't sit up stand for any length of time?
